이중층 워시코트 Rh-Pd-Pt 삼원촉매의 열적 열하에 따른 반응 특성 (Characteristics of Rh- Pd- Pt Three-Way Catalysts with Double-Layer Washcoat on the Hydrothermal Aging)

  • The research was conducted to characterize of Rh-Pd-Pt TWC with a double-layer washcoat for gasoline vehicle. The physical characteristics on surface of catalyst were inspected by BET, SEM and TEM. The characteristics of catalytic reaction were examined by the TPD/TPR and CO-pulse chemisorption. The catalyst $6Hx(0.35\times11\times3)$ showed superior conversion performance after hydrothermal aging process, which was due to small difference of the surface area between. the fresh and the aged catalyst. The CO-chemisorption and surface area were superior in the 600 cpsi catalyst than other catalysts, this catalyst also shown the higher conversion efficiency of the exhaust emissions. From the TPR test, the conversion performance of the aged catalyst was decreased by the agglomeration and sintering of the PM and metal oxides. From the TPD result, it was found that the NO chemisorption was happed on the bottom-layer washcoat with Pd, and the NO chemisorption was re-happened on the upper-layer washcoat with Pt and Rh in the desorption process.

  • The roles of ceria on three-way catalyst is to improve the noble metal dispersion and thermal stability of support ${\gamma}$-$Al_2O_3$. And, ceria has a oxygen storage capacity(OSC) under fuel rich/lean conditions to improve the operating windows of NOx, THC and CO conversion. However, ceria has weak thermal stability under high temperature due to the crystallite growth. So that, the OSC of ceria is decreased, and then the conversions of NOx, THC and CO is decreased. One way of enhancing the thermal stability and NOx, THC and CO conversion Pd-only catalyst is to improve as well as its thermal stability and oxygen storage capacity of the ceria. Especially, the appropriate mixing ratios of bulk and stabilized ceria are very important for designing principles of Pd-only three-way catalysts. In this paper, we discussed the thermal properties of stabilizedand unstabilized (bulk) ceria, and the oxygen storage capacity (OSC) of catalysts, and found the correlation between activity and the OSC of Pd-only catalysts with various different mixing ratios of bulk and stabilized ceria. Finally, we propose the design principles to improve the thermal stability of washcoated Pd-only catalysts.

  • 가솔린 엔진 차량용 삼원촉매담체는 주로 코제라이트 세라믹으로 제작되는 다공성 부품으로 엔진의 혼합기가 농후한 경우 삼원촉매의 열적 내구성이 급격히 떨어져 설계 내구 수명을 제대로 만족시키지 못하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 SiC 세라믹 촉매 담체의 내구성 평가에 사용할 기계적 물성치를 유한요소해석으로 구하기 위하여 등가물성평가방법을 이용하여 SiC 세라믹 하니컴 담체의 기계적 물성치를 유한요소해석용 시험편으로 구하였다. MOR과 탄성계수는 코제라이트 세라믹 하니컴 담체에 비하여 SiC 세라믹 하니컴 담체가 최소 2배와 9.3배 정도 크게 평가되고 있어 SiC 세라믹 하니컴 담체는 코제라이트 세라믹 하니컴 담체에 비하여 높은 구조 강도를 가지고 있다.

CNG 대형엔진에서 이중 O2 센서를 활용한 피드백 제어를 통한 삼원촉매 정화효율 향상 (Feedback Control using Dual O2 Sensors for Improving the Conversion Efficiency of a Three-way Catalyst in a Heavy-duty CNG Engine)

  • In this study, feedback logic using dual O2 sensor values were developed to increase the purification capability of a three-way catalyst (TWC) in a compressed natural gas (CNG) engine. A heavy-duty inline 6-cylinder engine was used and the CNG was supplied to the engine through a mixer. This study consists of two main parts, namely, the proportional integral (PI) control with a front O2 sensor and the feedback control with dual O2 sensors. In the PI control experiment, effects of various parameters, such as P gain, I gain, and lean delay, on the TWC capability were identified. Based on the results of the PI control experiment, the feedback logic using dual O2 sensor values were developed. In both cases, the nitrogen oxides (NOX) emissions were nearly zero. However, the carbon monoxide (CO) emissions were reduced significant in the feedback logic with dual O2 sensors than in the PI control with the front O2 sensor.

  • Noises from diesel engine are the major issues for noise pollution as well as affect customers' purchasing needs to vehicles powered by diesel engine. This study investigates to screen-out main factors that contribute to noises from diesel engine using VGT 2000cc engine developed recently. Changes of fuel temperature, intake temperature and the presence of three way catalyst don't affect the 'Engine Radiation Noise' and the solely three way catalyst influence on the 'Tail Pipe Noise'. Especially, there are no effects of the presence of three way catalyst on torque, which is main subject that should be considered in secondary study.

  • 천연가스를 이용한 기존 엔진들은 효율이 우수한 희박연소를 구현하였지만 배기가스의 정화성능이 점차 강화되는 배기규제에 대응하기 위해, 이론공연비 연소 방식으로 관심이 옮겨지고 있다. 이론공연비 연소 방식은 유해 배출가스의 정화효율이 높은 삼원촉매를 사용할 수 있는 장점이 있지만, 높은 연소열 발생에 따른 열 내구성 문제와 연비가 해결과제로 남아 있다. 천연가스에 수소를 혼합한 수소-천연가스 혼합연료(HCNG))는 수소의 빠른 연소속도에 의한 영향으로 연소속도가 증가하고, 희박한계가 증가하여 배기가스재순환(Exhaust gas recirculation; EGR) 률의 공급을 증가할 수 있다. EGR률 상승은 연소온도를 낮추게 되어 엔진 열 내구성에 긍정적인 영향을 줄 수 있고, 압축비를 더욱 증가 시킬 수 있어서 효율적인 연소조건을 형성하도록 도움을 줄 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존 대형 가스엔진을 이용하여 개발한 이론공연비 연소 방식의 HCNG 엔진의 배출가스 저감을 최소화하기 위해, 삼원촉매를 개발 및 적용하여 배기가스 특성을 평가하고 분석하고자 하였다. 현재 상용화된 시내버스용 삼원촉매와 HCNG용으로 개발 중인 시제 삼원촉매를 각각 설치하여 정상상태 운전조건 및 과도운전조건에서 실험을 진행하고 모드실험 결과를 비교하였다.

  • To remove nitrogen oxides(NOx) in exhaust gas of diesel engine, three-way catalytic process with plasma discharger has great possibilities. Characteristics of NOx removal depends on NO conversion to NO$_2$and/or HNO$_3$due to high activation energies for NO oxidation and reduction. NOx removal efficiency by using three-way catalytic with plasma discharger indicated about 50% at 40watt power consumption condition.

폐삼원촉매의 재제조에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Remanufacturing of the Waste Three-way Catalysts)

  • 폐삼원촉매를 초음파세척 후 활성성분을 재함침하여 촉매를 재제조 하였으며 여러가지 조건에서 재제조한 촉매의 활성과 표면특성을 분석하였다. 초음파세척을 통해 재제조한 경우, 폐촉매 표면의 오염물질을 제거하는 데에 필요한 최적시간은 약 5분임을 알 수 있었다. 활성성분의 적절한 재함침량에 대하여 검토하였으며 탄화수소화합물(THC), 일산화탄소(CO), 및 질소산화물(NOx)의 전환활성을 확인하기 위하여 다양한 온도범위에서 촉매의 성능실험을 수행하였다. 실험결과로부터 NOx 전환활성을 제외한 THC 및 CO의 전환환성은 신촉매의 전환활성과 거의 같은 수준까지 회복되는 것을 알 수 있었다.

천연가스 자동차용 삼원촉매의 $\lambda$-윈도우 영역 개선 (Improvement of $\lambda$--window Range of the Three-Way Catalyst for Natural Gas Vehicles)

  • The model gas reaction tests were carried out to investigate the purification characteristics of methane on the exclusive catalyst for NGV. The experiment was conducted with the factors which affect the conversion efficiency of methane, such as Redox ratio, coexistence components of CO, MO, $H_2$O, precious metals and additives. The catalyst loaded with larger amount of pd and with additive La showed lower light-off temperature. In the presence of CO and NO, the conversion efficiency of methane was varied according to the kind of additive loaded. The conversion efficiency of methane was dropped for the catalyst loaded with La under lean air-fuel ratio, while it increased for the one loaded with Ti+Zr for the same condition. It was shown that the water vapor inhibited methane from oxidation by its poisoning on the surface of catalyst.

  • In this paper, an adapted TWC model and its application to the monitoring algorithm are proposed. As TWCs have the different characteristics, the model has to be corrected to diagnose more accurately. In the TWC model oxygen storage and release rate model are adapted to the installed TWC to whose characteristics related. The model learns from the downstream $O_2$ sensor output during the vehicle's operation. From the results, the model is adapted to the Installed TWC's characteristics. using this model, the monitoring algorithm can diagnose the no more accurately. Finally the algorithm is validated with simulations using the data logged from a retail car.
