Micro-stereolithography is a newly proposed technology as a means that can fabricate a 3D micro-structure of free form. It makes a 3D micro-structure by dividing the shape into many slices of relevant thickness along horizontal surfaces, hardening each layer of slice with a focused laser beam, and stacking them up to a desired shape. In this technology, differently from the conventional stereolithography, scale effect is dominant. To realize micro-stereolithography technology, we developed the micro-stereolithography apparatus which is composed of an Ar+ laser, x-y-z stages. controllers. optical devices and scan path generation software. Related processes were developed, too. Using the system, a number of micro-structures were successfully fabricated. Some of these samples are shown for prove this system. Laser scan path generation algorithm and software considering photopolymer solidification phenomena as well as given 3D model were developed. Sample fabrication of developed software shows relatively high dimensional accuracy compared to the uncompensated result.
Numerous scholars have explored the modeling, control, and optimization of energy systems in buildings, offering new insights about technology and environments that can advance industry innovation. Eye trackers deliver objective eye-gaze data about visual and attentional processes. Due to its flexibility, accuracy, and efficiency in research, eye tracking has a control scheme that makes measuring rapid eye movement in three-dimensional space possible (e.g., virtual reality, augmented reality). Because eye movement is an effective modality for digital interaction with a virtual environment, tracking how users scan a visual field and fix on various digital objects can help designers optimize building environments and materials. Although several scholars have conducted Virtual Reality studies in three-dimensional space, scholars have not agreed on a consistent way to analyze eye tracking data. We conducted eye tracking experiments using objects in three-dimensional space to find an objective way to process quantitative visual data. By applying a 12 × 12 grid framework for eye tracking analysis, we investigated how people gazed at objects in a virtual space wearing a headmounted display. The findings provide an empirical base for a standardized protocol for analyzing eye tracking data in the context of virtual environments.

Digital 3D Real Object Duplication System (RODS) consists of 3D Scanner and Solid Freeform Fabrication System (SFFS). It is a device to make three-dimensional objects directly from the drawing or the scanning data. In this research, we developed an office type SFFS based on Three Dimensional Printing Process and an industrial SFFS using Dual Laser. An office type SFFS applied sliding mode control with sliding perturbation observer (SMCSPO) algorithm for control of this system. And we measured process variables about droplet diameter measurement and powder bed formation etc. through experiments. In case of industrial type SFFS, in order to develop more elaborate and speedy system for large objects than existing SLS process, this study applies a new Selective Dual-Laser Sintering (SDLS) process and 3-axis Dynamic Focusing Scanner for scanning large area instead of the existing f lens. In this process, the temperature has a great influence on sintering of the polymer. Also the laser parameters are considered like that laser beam power, scan speed, and scan spacing. Now, this study is in progress to evaluate the effect of experimental parameters on the sintering process.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the dimension safety evaluation between a general ultrasonic cleaner and an ultrasonic cleaner equipped with UV-C (ultraviolet-C). Methods: An edentulous model was prepared. A denture base and an occlusal rim were fabricated, and scanning was performed. After scanning, a denture base and full arch artificial teeth were designed. The full arch artificial teeth were printed using a three-dimensional printer (n=10). The residual resin was washed with alcohol and then scanned (reference data). The printed specimens were classified and cleaned using a general ultrasonic cleaner (GU group) and an ultrasonic cleaner equipped with UV-C (UC group). After each washing, a rescan was performed (scan data). Reference data and scan data were superimposed using overlapping software. Data were statistically analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test (α=0.05). Results: In the deviation values of full arch artificial teeth, the GU group showed a high deviation of 18.02 ㎛ and the UC group showed a low deviation of 15.02 ㎛. The two groups demonstrated a statistically significant difference (p<0.05). Conclusion: Full arch artificial teeth prepared using photopolymerized resin were deformed according to the temperature of water generated in the ultrasonic cleaner. It is judged that there is no deformation according to the UV-C ultrasonic cleaner.
Objective: To investigate the dimensional accuracy of digital dental models obtained from the dental cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan of alginate impressions according to the time elapse when the impressions are stored under ambient conditions. Methods: Alginate impressions were obtained from 20 adults using 3 different alginate materials, 2 traditional alginate materials (Alginoplast and Cavex Impressional) and 1 extended-pour alginate material (Cavex ColorChange). The impressions were stored under ambient conditions, and scanned by CBCT immediately after the impressions were taken, and then at 1 hour intervals for 6 hours. After reconstructing three-dimensional digital dental models, the models were measured and the data were analyzed to determine dimensional changes according to the elapsed time. The changes within the measurement error were regarded as clinically acceptable in this study. Results: All measurements showed a decreasing tendency with an increase in the elapsed time after the impressions. Although the extended-pour alginate exhibited a less decreasing tendency than the other 2 materials, there were no statistically significant differences between the materials. Changes above the measurement error occurred between the time points of 3 and 4 hours after the impressions. Conclusions: The results of this study indicate that digital dental models can be obtained simply from a CBCT scan of alginate impressions without sending them to a remote laboratory. However, when the impressions are not stored under special conditions, they should be scanned immediately, or at least within 2 to 3 hours after the impressions are taken.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the occurrence of displacement while tightening the screw of scan bodies, which were compared according to the material type. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three types of scan bodies whose base regions were made up of polyether ether ketone (PEEK) material [Straumann Group, Dentium Group, and Myfit (PEEK) Group] and another scan body whose base region was made up of titanium material [Myfit (Metal) Group] were used (15 per group). The reference model was fabricated by aligning the scan body library on the central axis of the implant, and moving this position by the resin model. The screws of the scan bodies were tightened to the implant fixture with torques of 5 Ncm, 10 Ncm, and a hand tightening torque. After the application of the torque, the scan bodies were scanned using a laboratory scanner. To evaluate the vertical, horizontal, and 3-dimensional (3D) displacements, a 3D inspection software program was used. To examine the difference among groups, one-way analysis of variance and Tukey's HSD post hoc test were used (α=.05). RESULTS. There were significant differences in 3D, vertical, and horizontal displacements among the different types of scan bodies (P<.001). There was a significantly lower displacement in the Straumann group than in the Myfit (PEEK) and Dentium groups (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The horizontal displacement in all groups was less than 10 ㎛. With the hand tightening torque, a high vertical displacement of over 100 ㎛ occurred in PEEK scan bodies (Myfit and Dentium). Therefore, it is recommended to apply a tightening torque of 5 Ncm instead of a hand tightening torque.
Background: Radiographic modalities have been commonly used to evaluate pectus carinatum (PC), and compressive orthotic bracing is the most widely accepted treatment method. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of 3-dimensional (3D) body surface scanning as an alternative modality for the evaluation of PC. Methods: The medical records of 63 patients with PC who were treated with compressive orthotic bracing therapy between July 2017 and February 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. Using both 2-view chest radiography (posteroanterior and lateral view) and 3D body scanning, the height of maximal protrusion of the chest wall was measured both before and after 2 weeks of bracing therapy. The difference between the pre- and post-treatment measurements was calculated for both modalities, and these differences were compared and analyzed. Results: Based on the comparison between the pre- and post-treatment radiographs, bracing therapy produced favorable outcomes in all patients (p<0.001). The measurements obtained via 3D scanning were strongly correlated with those obtained via chest radiography (r=0.60). Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, 3D body surface scanning appears to be an effective, radiation-free, and simple method for the post-treatment follow-up evaluation of PC, and thus can be considered an alternative to radiography.

Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the deviation of landmarks from horizontal or midsagittal reference planes according to the methods of establishing reference planes. Materials and Methods: Computed tomography (CT) scans of 18 patients who received orthodontic and orthognathic surgical treatment were reviewed. Each CT scan was reconstructed by three methods for establishing three orthogonal reference planes (namely, the horizontal, midsagittal, and coronal reference planes). The horizontal (bilateral porions and bilateral orbitales) and midsagittal (crista galli, nasion, prechiasmatic point, opisthion, and anterior nasal spine) landmarks were identified on each CT scan. Vertical deviation of the horizontal landmarks and horizontal deviation of the midsagittal landmarks were measured. Results: The porion and orbitale, which were not involved in establishing the horizontal reference plane, were found to deviate vertically from the horizontal reference plane in the three methods. The midsagittal landmarks, which were not used for the midsagittal reference plane, deviated horizontally from the midsagittal reference plane in the three methods. Conclusion: In a three-dimensional facial analysis, the vertical and horizontal deviations of the landmarks from the horizontal and midsagittal reference planes could vary depending on the methods of establishing reference planes.

We study the fracture behavior of the lumbar No.4 and No.5 vertebra subjected to posteroanterior (PA) forces, a three dimensional finite element method (FEM). The lumbar spine was modeled 3-dimensionally using commercial software based on the principle of convert stacked two dimensional CT scan images into three dimensional shapes. Determination of the boundary conditions corresponding to actual surgical conditions was not easy, so that the simplified spine beam analyses were performed. The results were used in three dimensional finite element (FE) analysis. This FE analysis, indicates that the fracture loads of the lumbar No.4 and No.5 vertebra are respectively 1550 N and 1500 N. These fracture loads are for static loading, but in actual conditions the load on the lumbar spine varies dynamically. We found that the fracture load of lumbar No.4 vertebra is larger than that of lumbar No.5 vertebra, as a result of the total stress difference by the moment.

This research project investigates the differences of various body locations (between 3D body models) and drapes garments digitally onto 3D body models. Three different subject models will be given explication. It consisted of (1) data collection of three-dimensional scans (2) creation of 3D body representations (3) comparison of avatar shapes and measurements (4) visualization and assessment of 3D body models and their 3D virtual garments. The study tests a theory of impact by differences in avatars by pattern design. A visual inspection of avatars showed clear differences between the six avatar types (in the generating process); however, there was notably less difference between 3D garment simulations based upon the six avatars produced. This demonstrated that there was less influence on the 3D garments than was predicted after a visual inspection of the avatars.
