The purpose of this study was to assess the intra-rater test-retest reliability of tibial external rotation angle measurement using a smartphone-based photographic goniometer, DrGoniometer (DrG) compared to a three-dimensional motion analysis system (Vicon). The current study showed an interchangeable method using DrG to measure the tibial external rotation angle in standing knee flexion at $90^{\circ}$. Twelve healthy subjects participated in this study. A rest session was conducted 30 minutes later for within-day reliability and five days later for between-day intra-rater test-retest reliability. To assess the validity of the measurement using DrG, we used a three dimensional motion analysis system as a gold standard to measure the angle of tibial external rotation. Intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC) and the standard error of measurement (SEM) values were used to determine the within- and between- day intra-rater test-retest reliability of using DrG and a three dimensional motion analysis system. To assess validity, Pearson correlation coefficients were used for two measurement techniques. The measurement for tibial external rotation had high intra-rater test-retest reliability of within-day (ICC=.88) and between-day (ICC=.83) reliability using DrG and of within-day (ICC=.93) and between-day (ICC=.77) reliability using a three-dimentional motion analysis system. Tibial external rotation angle measurement using DrG was highly correlated with those of the three-dimensional motion analysis system (r=.86). These results represented that the tibial external rotation angle measurement using DrG showed acceptable reliability and validity compared with the use of three-dimensional motion analysis system.

This paper describes a three dimensional motion recognition algorithm and a system which adopts the algorithm for non-contact human-computer interaction. From sequence of stereos images, five feature regions are extracted with simple color segmentation algorithm and then those are used for three dimensional locus calculation precess. However, the result is not so stable, noisy, that we introduce principal component analysis method to get more robust motion recognition results. This method can overcome the weakness of conventional algorithms since it directly uses three dimensional information motion recognition.

Numerous studies have been performed to analyze various phenomena of human's walking, gait. In the present study, unrecognized walking and recognized walking were analyzed by three dimensional motion capture system(VICON motion system Ltd., England) and simulated by computer program. Two normal males participated in measuring the motion of unrecognized and recognized walking. Six infrared cameras and four force plates were used and sixteen reflective markers were attached to the subject to capture the motion. A musculoskeletal model was generated anatomically by using ADAMS(MSC software corp., USA) and LifeMOD(Biomechanics Research Group Inc, USA). The inverse dynamic simulation and forward dynamic simulation were also performed. The result of simulation was similar to the experimental result. This study provides the base line for dynamic simulation of the falling walking. It will be useful to simulate various another pathologic gaits for old peoples.
Background: The restriction of wrist motion results in limited hand function, and the evaluation of the range of wrist motion is related to the evaluation of wrist function. To analyze and compare the wrist motion during four selected tasks, we developed a new desktop motion analysis system using the motion controller for a home video game console. Methods: Eighteen healthy, right-handed subjects performed 15 trials of selective tasks (dart throwing, hammering, circumduction, and winding thread on a reel) with both wrists. The signals of light-emitting diode markers attached to the hand and forearm were detected by the optic receptor in the motion controller. We compared the results between both wrists and between motions with similar motion paths. Results: The parameters (range of motion, offset, coupling, and orientations of the oblique plane) for wrist motion were not significantly different between both wrists, except for radioulnar deviation for hammering and the orientation for thread winding. In each wrist, the ranges for hammering were larger than those for dart throwing. The offsets and the orientations of the oblique plane were not significantly different between circumduction and thread winding. Conclusions: The results for the parameters of dart throwing, hammering, and circumduction of our motion analysis system using the motion controller were considerably similar to those of the previous studies with three-dimensional reconstruction with computed tomography, electrogoniometer, and motion capture system. Therefore, our system may be a cost-effective and simple method for wrist motion analysis.

A transfer loading system for 21' RF band assembly box was developed in the present study. The weight of a box is approximately 60kgf End total weight of one day job per person is about $4,000kg_f$. For an efficient design and manufacturing process, three dimensional design and engineering technique were applied to the presented system. Motion analysis for a popup unit and structural analysis for belt part subjected to the load of box weight were performed, respectively. It was found that the evasion of duty and labor intensity is reduced after appling the developed system to manufacturing field of small and midium business.
For years, many studies have mainly been investigated in a complicated human motion analysis. Recently, many motion analysis equipments have been studied and developed. Therefore, the more complex human movement analyses are possible, we have enabled us to perform more and more complicated human movement analyses. A Three-dimensional(3D) motion analysis on of the several methods is a useful tool for analyzing the human motion analysis. The purpose of this study was to develop the 3D human motion analysis using a kalman filter algorithm and a gyro sensor. The algorithm and sensor were used to human motion analysis with high-speed motion capture. In this study, the developed system will be adapted to facilitate golf swing analysis. Using the developed system, golfers and coaches who do not have advanced biomechanical knowledge can easily be used to their golf swing analysis. Future study is necessary for more practical and efficient area such as other sports industries, 3D game industries, rehabilitation training, etc..
Lately, ocean nuclear power plants have attracted attention as one of diverse uses of nuclear power plants. Because ocean nuclear power plants are movable or transportable, it is necessary to analyze the thermal hydraulics in a moving frame of reference, and computer codes have been developed to predict thermal hydraulics in large moving systems. The purpose of this study is to incorporate a three dimensional dynamic motion model into the SPACE code (Safety and Performance Analysis CodE) so that the code is able to analyze thermal hydraulics in an ocean nuclear power plant. A rotation system that describes three-dimensional rotations about an arbitrary axis was implemented, and modifications were made to the one-dimensional momentum equations to reflect the rectilinear and rotational acceleration effects. To demonstrate the code's ability to solve a problem utilizing a rotational frame of reference, code calculations were conducted on various conceptual problems in the two-dimensional and three-dimensional pipeline loops. In particular, the code results for the three-dimensional pipeline loop with a tilted rotation axis agreed well with the multi-dimensional CFD results.

For the vibration analysis of 3-dimensional piping system containing fluid flow, a transfer matrix method is presented. The fluid velocity and pressure were considered, that coupled to longitudinal and flexural vibrations. Transfer matrices and point matrices were derived from direct solutions of the differential equations of motion of pipe conveying fluids, and the variations of natural frequency with flow velocity for 3-dimensional piping system were investigated.

The isometric area of the anterior cruciate ligament was calculated during knee flexion-extension. Flexion-extension motion data of the joint were obtained using Fastrak and a three-dimensional motion measurement system. A total of five subjects were seated on a flat table and the tibia sensor position was measured with the femur fixed on the table. A three-dimensional knee model was constructed using a graphic tool to simulate the knee motion. Twenty seven positions of the tibia region and forty two positions of the femur region were selected and the distances between the determined tibial and femoral points were calculated. Highly isometric areas were found and displayed as three dimensional aspects.
Numerical simulation is made of the three-dimensional wave breaking motion about a part of a floating offshore structure containing a circular cylinder mounted vertically onto a lower hull in regular periodic gravity wave generated by a numerical wave maker. TUMMAC-VIII finite-difference method is newly developed for such a problem. By use of density-function technique the three-dimensional wave breaking motion is approximately implenented in the framework of rectangular grid system. A porosity technique is devised for the implementation of the no-slip bydy boundary conditions. The generation of breaking waves by the interaction of incident waves with the structure is well simulated and interesting features of breaking waves are revealed with containing degree of quantitative and qualitative accuracy.
