  • A design of a 32-bit fourth-stage decimation filter decimation filter used in sigma-delta analog-to-digital (A/D) converter is proposed in this work. A four-stage decimation filter with down-sampling factor of 512 and 32-bit output is developed. A multi-stage cascaded integrator-comb (CIC) filter, which reduces the sampling rate by 64, is used in the first stage. Three half-band FIR filters are used after the CIC filter, each of which reduces the sampling rate by two. The pipeline structure is applied in the CIC filter to reduce the power consumption of the CIC. The Canonic Signed Digit (CSD) arithmetic is used to optimize the multiplier structure of the FIR filter. This filter is implemented based on a semi-custom design flow and a 130nm CMOS standard cell library. This decimation filter operates at 98.304 MHz and provides 32-bit output data at an audio frequency of 192 kHz with power consumption of $697{\mu}W$. In comparison to the previous work, this design shows a higher performance in resolution, operation frequency and decimation factor with lower power consumption and small logic utilization.

  • A third-order sigma-delta modulator with the architecture of cascade of integrator feedback (CIFB) is proposed for an analog-digital converter used in low-power sensor interfaces. It consists of three switched-capacitor integrators using a gain-enhanced current-mirror-based amplifier, a single-bit comparator, and a non-overlapped clock generator. The proposed sigma-delta analog modulator with over-sampling ratio of 160 and maximum SNR of 90.45 dB is implemented using $0.11-{\mu}m$ CMOS process with 1.2-V supply voltage. The area and power consumption of the sigma-delta analog modulator are $0.145mm^2$ and $341{\mu}W$, respectively.

  • The integration of Quality Circles and Six-Sigma has gained attentions for the attainment of enhanced customer satisfaction, costs reduction, and improved business performance. The purpose of this paper is to verify the benefit from the integration of Quality Circles and Six-Sigma by applying the integrated process for an alcohol manufacturing line. In the integrated process, we used the first three steps of Six-Sigma of Define, Measure, and Analyze(D-M-A) and then applied the concept of Quality Circle, which has good performance in the Improvement and Control(I-C) process. For the selection of the theme of quality circles, Analytic Hierarch Process(AHP) is used, and we also employed the experimental design, which is designed to find an optimal operating condition. Furthermore, the results of the economic analysis confirm that the integration process would be successful in reducing the incidence of defects and the quality cost.

  • A three-dimensional numerical model of water circulation has been developed. The model employs the equations on $\sigma$-coordinate and the finite element method for numerical integration. To verify accuracy of the model, a series of numerical experiments have been conducted. The experiments include wind-driven currents in an one-dimensional channel, wind-driven currents in a square lake, and tidal current distributions in Masan-Jinhae Bay. The simulation results showed good agreements with the analytic solutions for wind-driven current and the field data sets in Masan-Jinhae Bay. The model can be used widely for modeling of water circulation in the waters with a complex geometry.

  • A sigma-delta modulator based class-D audio amplifier is presented. Parallel digital input is serialized to two-bit output by a fourth-order digital sigma-delta noise shaper. The output of the digital sigma-delta noise shaper is applied to a fourth-order analog sigma-delta modulator whose three-level output drives power switches. The pulse density modulated (PDM) output of the power switches is low-pass filtered by an LC-filter. The PDM output of the power switches is fed back to the input of the analog sigma-delta modulator. The first integrator of the analog sigma-delta modulator is a hybrid of continuous-time (CT) and switched-capacitor (SC) integrator. While the sampled input is applied to SC path, the continuous-time feedback signal is applied to CT path to suppress the noise of the PDM output. The class-D audio amplifier is fabricated in a standard $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS process and operates for the signal bandwidth from 100-Hz to 20-kHz. With 4-${\Omega}$ load, the maximum output power is 18.3-mW. The total harmonic distortion plus noise and dynamic range are 0.035-% and 80-dB, respectively. The modulator consumes 457-uW from 1.2-V power supply.

  • We describe a method for detecting slope instability in flume tests using pore pressure and water content data in conjunction with a statistical control chart analysis. Specifically, we conducted univariate statistical analysis on x-MR control chart data (pore pressure and water content) collected at several points along the flume slope, which we separated into three parts: upper, middle, and lower. To assess our results in the context of landslide forecasting and warning systems, we applied control limit lines at $1{\sigma}$, $2{\sigma}$, and $3{\sigma}$ levels of uncertainty. In doing so, we observed that dispersion time varies depending on the control limit line used. Moreover, the detection of instabilities is highly dependent on the position and type of sensor. Our findings indicate that different characteristics of the data on various factors predict slope failure differently and these characteristics can be identified by univariate statistical analysis. Therefore, we suggest that a univariate statistical approach is an effective method for the early detection of slope instability.

  • Measurements of internal stress .sigma.$_{i}$, anelastic strain .epsilon.$_{A}$ and recovery rate .gamma. were made in steady state creep of 2024 Al alloys over a wide range of stresses at temperatures between 260.deg. C and 380.deg. C, for the purpose of investigating the relations among the three parameters. Values of .sigma.$_{i}$ were obtained by the method of strain transient dip test, and those of .epsilon.$_{A}$ and .gamma. were determined from the results of sudden stress removal or reduction tests. As a main result, it is thought that the anelastic behavior and recovery process are basically dependent on same deformation mechanisms.sms.sms.

  • We report the results of three-dimensional radiation hydrodynamic simulations of star cluster formation in turbulent molecular clouds, with primary attention to how stellar radiation feedback controls the lifetime and net star formation efficiency (SFE) of their natal clouds. We examine the combined effects of photoionization and radiation pressure for a wide range of cloud masses (10^4 - 10^6 Msun) and radii (2 - 80 pc). In all simulations, stars form in densest regions of filaments until feedback becomes strong enough to clear the remaining gas out of the system. We find that the SFE is primarily a function of the initial cloud surface density, Sigma, (SFE increasing from ~7% to ~50% as Sigma increases from ~30 Msun/pc^2 to ~10^3 Msun/pc^2), with weak dependence on the initial cloud mass. Control runs with the same initial conditions but without either radiation pressure or photoionization show that photoionization is the dominant feedback mechanism for clouds typical in normal disk galaxies, while they are equally important for more dense, compact clouds. For low-Sigma clouds, more than 80% of the initial cloud mass is lost by photoevaporation flows off the surface of dense clumps. The cloud becomes unbound within ~0.5-2.5 initial free-fall times after the first star-formation event, implying that cloud dispersal is rapid once massive star formation takes place. We briefly discuss implications and limitations of our work in relation to observations.

  • 14-3-3 is a highly conserved, ubiquitously expressed protein family. It associates with diverse cellular proteins through its specific phosphoserine/phosphothreonine-binding activity and thus contributes to the regulation of crucial cellular processes such as metabolism, signal transduction, cell-cycle control, apoptosis, protein trafficking, transcription and stress responses. This study aims to determine changes in levels of 14-3-3 isoforms and 14-3-3 - associated proteins in Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori)-infected gastric epithelial AGS cells. AGS cells were stimulated with H. pylori(NCTC 11637) at the ratio of 300:1(bacterium:cell). Western blot analysis revealed that 14-3-3 $\sigma$ was elevated at 3 hr after H. pylori treatment. Other isoforms were not significantly affected by H. pylori infection. Using immunoprecipitation to 14-3-3 $\sigma$, followed by proteomic analysis, we found that S phase kinase associated protein isoform 2 bound to 14-3-3 $\sigma$ has increased. In contrast, three proteins (DEAD-box polypeptide 3, heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein H2 and WD repeat-containing protein isoform 1) bound to 14-3-3 decreased by H. pylori infection. Our results suggest that 14-3-3 may play an important regulatory role in H. pylori-induced signal transduction in gastric epithelial cells.
