The Improvement Effectiveness of Computational Thinking through Scratch Education

  • Recently, it has been activated the software education or coding education for the improvement of the Computational Thinking (CT) ability at home and abroad. Also the CT has influence on courses of Computer Science in the college levels. It has been introduced and the number of cases of using it to general K12 education has increased. However, the research on the software education's influence on the CT was still lacking. So In this paper, we proposed this study has been conducted on how Scratch education in the elementary school level influenced the ability of the CT. And we proposed software education can improve the ability of CT. First, we provided the theoretical base of the software education and evaluation process through analysis of computational thinking ability. A core analysis content of the CT is broader than algorithmic thinking and can be achieved without using computer. It includes abstract, algorithmic, logical, and measurable thinking. Second, we made efforts to improve the characteristics of the software education with categorization. Finally, we have managed the software education using Picoboard with Scratch and flowchart within 15 weeks based on these theocratical research. An examination of the effectiveness was committed to understand, analyze, and develop strategies of problem solving. It is designed as a strategy of problem solving before and after the software lesson. The result of the software education has improved authentically in all areas without the need to design a strategy for problem solving.

  • 2015 개정 교육과정이 컴퓨팅 사고력을 학생들의 필수 역량으로 정한 것은 컴퓨터교육에서 중대한 변화이다. 컴퓨팅 사고력을 크게 추상화와 자동화, 창의융합으로 분류한 중등 정보교과는 문제해결과 프로그래밍 영역을 교육과정 안에 포함하였다. 또한 컴퓨팅 사고력의 하위요소들 중에서 자료 표현은 학습자들의 문제해결을 위한 자료와 정보의 구조화 능력을 중요시 하고 있다. 대학에서 정보 과목 중등 예비교사들도 다이어그램 작성을 통해 정보 구조화 과정을 배우고 있다. 학생 간에는 다이어그램 구조화 능력에 차이를 보이고 있는데 학생들의 구조화 능력 계발에 도움이 되는 학습방법에 대한 연구는 드물다. 본 연구에서는 대학생들을 대상으로 어떤 학생들이 주어진 문제를 시각적 다이어그램으로 잘 구조화하는지 추상적 사고 성향과 성별 관점에서 차이 분석을 수행하였다. 그 결과 남학생에 비해 여학생이 구체적 사고 성향을 가지고 있으며 다이어그램의 특성에 따라 다른 사고가 요구되고 성별 차이가 있었다. 또한 추상적 사고 성향의 차이에 따라 다이어그램을 구조화하는데 차이를 보였다. 남녀 학생들의 사고 성향의 차이를 파악하여 이들을 보완할 수 있는 교육방법을 찾는다면 컴퓨팅 사고력 향상이라는 교육목적을 달성하는데 유용하다.

Examining the Relationship between a Structured Reading Framework and Students' Critical Thinking Ability within an Argument-Based Inquiry Approach

  • This study examined how a Structured Reading Framework (SRF) is related to improving students' critical thinking ability in an argument-based inquiry approach, called the Science Writing Heuristic (SWH) approach. A total of 75 $8^{th}$ graders participated in the study, with 34 in the control group and 41 in the treatment group. The gains in critical thinking skills were compared between two groups, and relationships among the components of the reading framework and the critical thinking skills were explored at the group level. Result indicates that the treatment group who used the SRF had larger gains in critical thinking scores than control group who used the Original Reading Framework (ORF). In addition, results show that the correlations between Reading Framework (RF) components and critical thinking scores are statistically significant in the treatment group, while no correlations exist in the control group. It appears that using the SRF have an impact on developing students' critical thinking ability by providing a scaffold to assist argumentation practice.

Examining the relationship between educational effectiveness and computational thinking in smart learning environment

  • The $4^{th}$ industrial revolution has brought innovation in the educational environment. The purpose of this study is to verify the educational effectiveness of smart learning environment especially with the computational thinking. A big data analysis was performed to confirm that computational thinking is the one to prepare the 4th industrial revolution. To teach computational thinking at university, educational design should be careful. This study verified the relationship between improvement of computational thinking ability and major of students with coding education. There was difference in effectiveness of the coding education depending on the major of students, it means students must be guaranteed to be educated by the differentiated coding education for different major. This study extracted factors of computational thinking through literature review. Thirteen research hypotheses were applied for the statistical analysis in R language. It was proved that expectation of class and improvement of abstraction ability and algorithmic thinking ability had mediation effect to the relationship between knowledge acquisition and problem-solving abilities. Based on this study, effectiveness of education can be improved, and it will lead to produce a lot of distinguished students who are ready for the 4th industrial revolution.

  • This study is intended to investigate the effect on the development of multiplicative thinking and multiplicative ability by teaching repeated addition, rate, comparison, area-array, and combination problems. Two research questions are established: first, is there any difference of multiplicative thinking between the experimental group(the modeling of problem situation learning group) and the control group(the traditional learning group)\ulcorner Second, is there any difference of multiplicative ability between the experimental group and the control group\ulcorner The treatment process for the experimental group is based on modeling problem situations for nine lesson periods. In order to answer the research questions the chi-square analysis was used for the first research question and the t-test was used for the second one. The findings are summarized as follows: there is no significant difference of multiplicative thinking be1ween the experimental and the control group but there is significant difference of multiplicative ability.

탐구학습모형이 유아의 과학적 사고 능력에 미치는 영향 (Effects of the Inquiry Model on the Scientific Thinking of Preschoolers)

  • This study examined the effects of the inquiry model on children's scientific thinking ability and processing skills. The experimental classroom of a kindergarten in Seoul was assigned the inquiry model while the control classroom was assigned general scientific education (N=48). Seventeen treatment sessions were applied to the experimental group. Tests to investigate the hypotheses included the Sink and Float Test and a new instrument developed by the researchers. Findings showed that preschoolers receiving the inquiry model of instruction gained higher scores in scientific thinking ability and processing skills than the preschoolers in the classroom using the general scientific education model. In sum, this study proved the superior effect of the inquiry model in developing children's scientific skills and ability.

  • 최근 IT 산업이 국가경제에서 차지하는 비중이 높아지고 또한 지식정보사회에서 정보의 소양 및 활용이 필수적이 되어감에 따라 정보영재교육에 대한 중요성이 날로 커지고 있다. 현재 정보영재교육은 대학부설 영재교육원을 비롯하여 시도교육청 산하 영재교육원, 사설 영재교육원 등 다양한 기관에서 실시되고 있다. 정보영재교육의 내용 영역에 있어서 프로그래밍 능력과 더불어 논리적 사고능력은 매우 중요한 부분을 차지하고 있으며 또한, 프로그래밍 능력과 논리적 사고능력의 향상은 정보영재교육의 주요 목표이다. 본 연구의 목적은 정보영재아동에 있어서 프로그래밍 능력과 논리적 사고능력의 상관관계를 분석하는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 서울시내 대학부설 영재교육원 정보영재아동을 대상으로 6년 동안의 재학생들을 대상으로 이들의 평가결과를 조사하고 분석한 결과, 프로그래밍 능력과 논리적 사고능력은 상관관계가 높음을 보여주었다.

  • The flexible mathematical thinking - the ability to generate and connect various representations of concepts - is useful in understanding mathematical structure and variation in problem solving. In particular, the flexible mathematical thinking with the inventive mathematical thinking, the original mathematical problem solving ability and the mathematical invention is a core concept, which must be emphasized in all branches of mathematical education. In this paper, the author considered a case of flexible mathematical thinking with an inventive problem solving ability shown by his student via real analysis courses. The case is on the proofs of the equivalences of three different definitions on the concept of limit superior shown in three different real analysis books. Proving the equivalences of the three definitions, the student tried to keep the flexible mathematical thinking steadily.

  • The purpose of the study is to develop instructional materials for improving thinking ability in home economics at middle school. To achieve the purpose. teaching elements were analyzed through the content of middle school Home Economics curriculum and eight textbooks. In addition, the specific learning objectives were identified accordingly and the focus of thinking were drawn in each teaching element. Also, instructional method for the development of thinking ability were proposed by each teaching element and focus of thinking. Finally. Instructional Materials were developed forty three topics for the content areas of food, clothing, housing, resource management and consumerism.

간호대학생의 비판적사고와 문제해결 능력과의 관계에서 셀프리더십의 매개효과 (Mediating Effect of Self-Leadership Relationship between Critical Thinking and Problem Solving Ability of Nursing University Students)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생의 비판적 사고와 문제해결 능력 간의 관계에서 셀프리더십의 매개효과를 확인하기 위한 서술적 조사연구이다. 2019년 9월 20일 부터 9월 30일까지 G시 소재의 일 대학 간호학과에 재학 중인 247명을 대상으로 구조화된 설문지를 통하여 일반적 특성, 비판적 사고, 문제해결 능력 및 셀프리더십을 조사하였다. 통계처리는 SPSS 21.0 프로그램을 이용하여 서술적 통계, 분산분석 및 다중회귀분석을 하였으며, 비판적 사고와 문제해결 능력과의 관계에서 셀프리더십의 매개효과는 Baron과 Kenny의 3단계 절차를 이용한 위계적 회귀분석으로 검증하였다. 문제해결 능력은 비판적사고(r=.48, p<.001), 셀프리더십(r=.73 p<.001)과 양의 상관관계가 있었고, 비판적 사고는 셀프리더십(r=.70, p<.001)과 양의 상관관계가 있었다. 또한 비판적 사고와 문제해결 능력과의 관계에서 셀프리더십의 부분매개 효과(β=.47, p<.001)가 있는 것으로 나타났다(Sobel test: Z=6.64, p<.001). 따라서 간호대학생의 문제해결 능력을 향상시키기 위해서는 셀프리더십의 강화가 필요하며 이를 위해 정규 교육과정과 교과 외 활동 프로그램을 통한 다양한 전략이 마련되어야 하겠다.
