  • A disturbance rejection controller using eccentricity filtering and LQ control techniques is proposed to alleviate the effecto of major roll eccentricity in multivariable cold-rolling processes. Fundamental problems in multivariable cold-rolling processes such as process time delay inherent in exit thickness measurement and non-stationary characteristics of roll eccentricity signals can be overcome by the proposed control method. The filtered instantaneous estimate of roll eccentricity may be exploited to improve instantaneous estimate of the exit thickness variation based on roll force and roll gap measurements, and a feedforward compensator is augmented as a reference for a gaugemeter thickness estimator. LQ feedback controller is combined with eccentricity filter for the attenuation of the exit thickness variation due to the entry thickness variation. The simulation results show that the roll eccentricity disturbance is significantly eliminated and other disturbances also are attenuated.

  • To obtain the acoustic properties of dispersive polyurethane with high attenuation, through transmission method was applied by ultrasonic. In through transmission method, the sound velocity and attenuation coefficient of specimen were obtained by using Sachse's method which can be applied to small size specimen. But there is a problem when the reference signal is selected, so the result is not precise. The more precise acoustic properties of polyurethane was obtained when two specimens with different thickness were used. To predict the acoustic properties of low frequency range, the acoustic properties extended to the low frequency range were calculated by Kramers - Kronig relation. As a result, we studied on the relation between the sound velocity and the attenuation coefficient with frequency.

  • Two-dimensional hydrodynamic analysis was performed to analyze the attenuating characteristics of shock waves generated by the detonation of the bulkhead initiator. Through the interlocking analysis between HNS and HMX stacking initiator and STS bulkhead, we have precisely simulated detonation growth and pressure wave attenuation phenomena. The free surface velocity at the surface of the bulkhead was measured for quantitative comparison with the test data by VISAR. As a result, it was confirmed that the pressure attenuating pattern of the shock wave exponentially decreased according to the bulkhead thickness. The observed inflection point at the particle velocity measured over time is due to the subsequent propagation of the shock wave due to the rapid spallation of the interface between the detonator and the bulkhead.

  • Rail transit lines usually pass through many complicated topographies in mountain areas. The influence of inclined bedrock on the train-induced soil vibration response was investigated. Model tests were conducted to comparatively analyze the vibration attenuation under inclined bedrock and horizontal bedrock conditions. A three-dimension numerical model was built to make parameter analysis. The results show that under the horizontal bedrock condition, the peak velocity in different directions was almost the same, while it obviously changed under the inclined bedrock condition. Further, the peak velocity under inclined bedrock condition had a larger value. The peak velocity first increased and then decreased with depth, and the trend of the curve of vibration attenuation with depth presented as a quadratic parabola. The terrain conditions had a significant influence on the vibration responses, and the inclined soil surface mainly affected the shallow soil. The influence of the dip angle of bedrock on the peak velocity and vibration attenuation was related to the directions of the ground surface. As the soil thickness increased, the peak velocity decreased, and as it reached 173% of the embedded pile length, the influence of the inclined bedrock could be neglected.

  • Among many servo control systems in steel making plant, AGC system in hot rolling mill is very important to get a accurate strip thickness for good quality. AGC (Auto Gauge Control) system controls the roll gap to maintain the required thickness by using the variation of roll force and the measure of output thickness. In this paper, a simulator of AGC system which unifies both hydraulic servo control system and AGC algorithm is suggested. After proving the concurrence of algorithms between the simulator and real system, main actuator system is added. Instead of usual PI system used in present system, DOB control scheme is applied and shows the effect of disturbance attenuation well.

  • The development of efficient and precise handling of an liquid crystal display (LCD) panel has been addressed as the sizes of LCD panels become much larger than ever. The majority part of LCD panel handling is conducted by industrial robots for the cost reduction and the quality control. A challenging problem, vibration of the panel, can be found when the robots are utilized for handling LCD panels. The vibration causes the poor product precision and the low productivity. The characteristics of LCD panels, which are the high size-to thickness ratio, the high elasticity, and the high brittleness, are the major sources of the vibration This paper introduces the vibration attenuation techniques to overcome the difficulties encountered in the LCD production using the industrial robots.

  • In this paper, guided circumferential wave propagating in an orthotropic viscoelastic cylindrical curved plate subjected to traction-free conditions is investigated in the frame of the Kelvin-Voight viscoelastic theory. The obtained three wave equations are decoupled into two groups, Lamb-like wave and SH wave. They are separately solved by the Legendre polynomial series approach. The availability of the method is confirmed through the comparison with the published data of the SH wave for a viscoelastic flat plate. The dispersion curves and attenuation curves for the carbon fiber and prepreg cylindrical plates are illustrated and the viscous effect on dispersion curves is shown. The influences of the ratio of radius to thickness are analyzed.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the dynamic characteristics of a motor-die in washing machine and provide quantitative design information needed for reduction of radiated sound from the motor-die. To perform the design analysis, dynamic characteristics are identified by motor-die modeling and the availability of model is verified by experimental modal analysis. Numerical approach using MSC/NASTRAN and SYSNOISE predicted sound attenuation effects according to the change of design parameters, such as thickness, concentrated mass and rib. The numerical results due to the rib attachment showed the significant noise attenuation effects over 15 dB in the frequency range of 450∼700 Hz.

  • Performances of a piezoelectric ultrasonic transducer are analyzed considering the internal losses of a piezoleelctric material and fabricated layers. The KLM-model is adopted for the equivalent circuit of a piezoelectric resonator, and the attenuation coefficient is introduced to represent the internal losses of the transducer. The attenuation coefficient of a piezoelectric resonator is inversely proportional to the maximum value of the input electrical resistance, and is confirmed to be an efficient parameter for the analysis of the considerable lossy piezo-electric resonator operating in a thickness mode. Also, the experimentla RTII is obtained by pulse-echo method. The experimental result is deviated from the predicted one within 3 dB over the 20dB frequency bandwidth.
