It has been known that the particular brain waves are induced when a human concentrates. In our study, we aimed to analysis the brain waves related to human concentration using visual stimulus to induce the concentration. The visual stimulus tasks were presented to subjects for concentration. We measured EEG signals with several channels and analyzed the signals into several frequency bands. In the measured EEG signals, we analyzed to focus on theta waves, SMR waves and mid-beta waves. Therefore we presented the results to investigate characteristics of the EEG signals related to the human concentration.
In this study, Theta Gamma Coupling (TGC) analysis was carried out after performing simple and repeated upper limb exercise and comparative experiment to observe changes in the motor cortex of the brain through TGC and to see if mobile rehabilitation therapy is actually effective. As a result, exercise using mobile devices showed higher TGC values in motor cortex as compared with simple repeat upper limb exercise. In addition, paired t-test using SPSS showed statistically significant difference between exercise using mobile devices and simple repeat exercise at P3(t=3.390, df(degree of freedom)=12, p value=0.005). Exercise using mobile devices is effective for rehabilitation because it increases the Theta-Gamma Coupling and activates the motor cortex. Also, since the mobile game contents required the subject to detailed athletic ability adjustment with immersion in the task, it may be thought that brain activation is stronger than simple rehabilitation.
Highly (h00)-oriented (Ba, Sr)TiO$_3$(BST) thin films were grown by pulsed laser deposition on the perovskite LaNiO$_3$(LNO) metallic oxide layer as a bottom electrode. The LNO films were deposited on SiO$_2$/Si substrates by rf-magnetron sputtering method. The crystalline phases of the BST film were characterized by x-ray $\theta$-2$\theta$, $\omega$-rocking curve and $\psi$-scan diffraction measurements. The surface microsturcture observed by scanning electron microscopy was very dense and smooth. The low-frequency dielectric responses of the BST films grown at various substrate temperatures were measured as a function of frequency in the frequency range from 0.1 Hz to 10 MHz. The BST films have the dielectric constant of 265 at 1 kHz and showed multiple dielectric relaxation at the low frequency region. The origin of these low-frequency dielectric relaxation are attributed to the ionized space charge carriers such as the oxygen vacancies and defects in BST film, the interfacial polarization in the grain boundary region and the electrode polarization. We studied also on the capacitance-voltage characteristics of BST films.
We performed the intracavity frequency-doubling of a tunable continuous-wave Ti:sapphire laser using a lithium triborate $(LiB_3O_5, LBO)$ crystal. For an efficient intracavity frequency-doubling, we measured the spectral and the angular bandwidth about the $\theta$-direction of LBO crystal. The measured values at a fundamental wavelength of 800 nm were 1.54 nm.cm and 3.8 mrad.cm, respectively. As a result of an intracavity frequency-doubling, we obtained the second-harmonic generation output power of 5.3 mW at 400 nm with the full width at half maximum(FWHM) of 0.089 nm from the fundamental output power of 185 mW at 800 nm. The frequency-doubled output was tuned from 397 nm to 403 nm.403 nm.

Turbulent characteristics of turbulent pulsating flows were studied experimentally in a square duct. Velocity waveforms, velocity profiles, and turbulent intensity of turbulent pulsating flow were investigated by using a hot-wire anemometer with data acquisition and a processing system in a square duct with a ratio of 1 ($40mm{\times}40mm$) to 4,000mm long. Turbulent components were shown to be larger in decelerating than in accelerating regions and also larger for a large phase of velocity and U'rms distribution of turbulent flow. The effect of velocity amplitude ratio does not exist for specified time [${\theta}(z^{\prime})$], amplitude ratio (${\mid}U^{\prime}_{rms.os.1}{\mid}/{\mid}U_{m.os.1}{\mid}$), and phase difference (${\Delta}U^{\prime}_{rms.os.1}-{\Delta}U_{m.os.1}$) in either turbulent oscillating or cross-sectional mean velocity components. The effect of dimensionless angular frequency for specified time [${\theta}(z^{\prime})$] can be disregarded because the dimensionless angular frequency does not affect the specified time. The velocity distributions of turbulent pulsating flows for various time-averaged Reynolds numbers are in approximate agreement with the velocity distributions for equivalent Reynolds numbers and 1/7th power law of steady flow.

The purpose of this study was to apply a scientific and systematic method for assessing fashion goods' TV ads effects by EEG and questionnaires as determined by the type of ads appeal. Ads stimulants used in the survey were limited to underwear and sportswear that were advertised during $2000{\sim}2002$ on TV: 4 information-transferring and 4 emotion-evoking ads were used. Subjects were thirty healthy male and female college students. EEG was extracted from six lobes and the recorded EEG was analyzed by the range of frequency of ${\theta},\;{\alpha}\;and\;{\beta}$ waves. Data were analyzed by SPSS 11.0 with reliability test, $x^2$-analysis, t-test and frequency analysis. The emotion-evoking ads showed higher scores in memory, recall and attitude towards the ads. The responses of ${\theta}\;and\;{\alpha}$ wave were active throughout the ads but the response of ${\beta}$ wave was not. The results by the survey and the EEG test showed high similarities, indicating the EEG tests could be used as the supplementary tool for measuring ads effects.

A novel microstrip circular slot antenna fed by a spiral line is presented in this paper. This antenna is a planar equivalent structure of an eccentric spiral antenna generates a circularly-polarized wave. We have investigated the input impedance and radiation characteristics of this antenna by using an EM (electromagnetic) simulator, and obtained a design method [or optimum structure. The main characteristic of the antenna is that the main beam direction is off-normal to the antenna plane and moves linearly into ${\theta }$ and ${\phi }$ direction as the frequency increases. This feature allows one to predict the main beam direction easily for a given operating frequency. This antenna has axial ratio lower than 3 dB in the direction of main beam over one octave bandwidth.
In this paper, we propose the dual band(2.4GHz and 5GHz) antenna for access point of WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) which has similar radiation patterns for each band. Simulation results by using HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) for the proposed antenna are presented. The electrical characteristics of the proposed antenna are measured with HP 8510C network analyzer and included. And radiation patterns are measured with rectangular anechoic far field antenna chamber. Measured results show that $S_{11}$ is less than - 14dB and VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) is less than 1.5 for all frequency bands of interest. The measured maximum gain for elevation pattern at 2.40GHz is about 2.46dBi at $theta=-78^{\circ}$ and maximum gain for 5.825GHz is about 2.70dBi at $theta=-80^{\circ}.$ And the implemented antenna has good radiation pattern characteristic, therefore, we expect that the implemented dual band antenna is applicable for access point of WLAN.
Soil respiration ($R_S$) is a critical component of the annual carbon balance of forests, but few studies thus far have attempted to evaluate empirical regression models in $R_S$. The principal objectives of this study were to evaluate the relationship between $R_S$ rates and soil temperature (ST) and soil water content (SWC) in soil from a cool-temperate deciduous broad-leaved forest, and to evaluate empirical regression models for the prediction of $R_S$ using ST and SWC. We have been measuring $R_S$, using an open-flow gas-exchange system with an infrared gas analyzer during the snowfree season from 1999 to 2001 at the Takayama Forest, Japan. To evaluate the empirical regression models used for the prediction of $R_S$, we compared a simple exponential regression (flux = $ae^{bt}$Eq. [1]) and two polynomial multiple-regression models (flux = $ae^{bt}{\times}({\theta}{\nu}-c){\times}(d-{\theta}{\nu})^f:$ Eq. [2] and flux = $ae^{bt}{\times}(1-(1-({\theta}{\nu}/c))^2)$: Eq. [3]) that included two variables (ST: t and SWC: ${\theta}{\nu}$) and that utilized hourly data for $R_S$. In general, daily mean $R_S$ rates were positively well-correlated with ST, but no significant correlations were observed with any significant frequency between the ST and $R_S$ rates on periods of a day based on the hourly $R_S$ data. Eq. (2) has many more site-specific parameters than Eq. (3) and resulted in some significant underestimation. The empirical regression, Eq. (3) was best explained by temporal variations, as it provided a more unbiased fit to the data compared to Eq. (2). The Eq. (3) (ST $\times$ SWC function) also increased the predictive ability as compared to Eq. (1) (only ST exponential function), increasing the $R^2$ from 0.71 to 0.78.
Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) at an acupoint, HT8(Sobu), on normal humans by using power spectral analysis. We examined the effect on the Heart Rate Variability(HRV), and the balance of the autonomic nervous system. Methods : Thirty-two healthy volunteers participated in this study. EEG(Electroencephalogram) power spectrum exhibits site-specific and state-related differences in specific frequency bands. A thirty-two channel EEG study was carried out on thirty-two subjects(14 males; mean age=23.5 years old, 18 females; mean age=21.5 years old). HRV and EEG were simultaneously recorded before and after acupuncture. Results : In the ${\alpha}$(alpha) band, during the HT8-acupoint treatment, the power values in the ${\alpha}$(alpha) band significantly decreased(p<0.05) at 28 channels. In the ${\beta}$(beta) band significantly decreased(p<0.05) at 26 channels. In ${\delta}$(delta) band significantly decreased(p<0.05) at 18 channels. In ${\theta}$(theta) band significantly decreased(p<0.05) at 20 channels. ${\alpha}/{\beta}$ values were increased at 6 channels and decreased at 10 channels.${\beta}/{\theta}$ values were increased at 10 channels and decreased at 19 channels. Mean-RR(RR-interval), Complexity, RMSSD(Root mean square of successive differences), SDSD(Standard deviations differences between adjacent normal R-R intervals), norm HF showed a significantly increased and mean-HRV, norm LF, LHR(LF/HF Ratio) showed a significantly decreased after HT8-acupoint treatment(p<0.05). Conclusions : These results suggest that EA at the HT8 mostly causes significant changes on alpha(28 channels), beta(26 channels), delta(18 channels), theta(20 channels) bands and mean-HRV, mean-RR, complexity, RMSSD, SDSD, norm LF, norm HF and LHR. If practicing EA at the HT8, it will regulate the function of the cerebral cortex, decrease activity of the sympathetic and increase parasympathetic nervous activity.
