Plasma polymerized thin films have been deposited on Si(lOO) substrates at $25-400^{\circ}C$ using thiophene ($C_4H_4S$) precursor by plasma assisted chemical vapor deposition (PACVD) method for low-dielectric device application. In order to compare physical properties of the as-grown thin films, the effects of the plasma power, gas flow ratio and deposition temperature on the dielectric constant and thermal stability were mainly studied. XRD and TED studies revealed that the as-grown thin films have highly oriented amorphous polymer structure. XPS data showed that the polymerized thin films that grown under different RF power and deposition temperature as well as different gas ratio of $Ar:H_2$ have different stoichiometric ratio of C and S compared with that of monomer, indicating a formation of mixture polymers. Moreover, we also realized that oxygen free and thermally stable polymer thin films could be grown at even $400^{\circ}C$. The results of SEM, AFM and TEM showed that the polymer films with smooth surface and sharp interface could be grown under various deposition conditions. From the electrical property measurements such as I-V and C-V characteristics, the minimum dielectric constant and the best leakage current were obtained to be about 3.22 and $10-11{\;}A/\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively.
Since silicon having a band gap energy of about 1.12 eV are limited to a maximum operating temperature of less than 250 ℃, the sample with MIS structure based on the SiC substrate of wide-band gap energy was manufactured and the hydrogen response characteristics at high temperatures were investigated. The dielectric layer applied here is a tantalum oxide layer that is highly permeable to hydrogen gas and shows stability at high temperatures. It was formed by RTO at a temperature of 900 ℃ with tantalum. The thickness, depth profiles, and leakage current of the tantalum oxide layer were analyzed through TEM, SIMS, and leakage current characteristics. For the hydrogen gas response characteristics, the capacitance change characteristics were investigated in the temperature range from room temperature to 400 ℃ for hydrogen gas concentrations from 0 to 2,000 ppm. As a result, it was confirmed that the sample exhibited excellent sensitivity and a response time of about 60 seconds.
Korea is considered to be a seasonal frozen soil area that thaws in the spring, and freezes in winter. In the current design codes for anti-freezing layer, the thickness of anti-freezing layer is calculated by the depth frozen due to the temperature condition. Therefore, there is a tendency of over-design and applying uniform thickness without the consideration of thermal stability, bearing capacity and frost susceptibility of materials. So, it is essential to study the structural appropriateness of pavement layer and bearing capacity besides the seasonal and mechanical properties of pavement materials to take an appropriate and reasonable design of the road structure. In this paper, the evaluation of frost susceptibility on subgrade, ant-freezing layer, subbase was conducted by means of the mechanical characteristics and model experiment. The temperature, heaving amount, unfrozen water contents and freezing depth of soil samples, the subgrade, anti-freezing layer, subbase soils of road construction site were measured to determine the frost susceptibility.

Participation in power trading using surplus power is considered a business model active in the domestic energy trade market, but it is limited only if the legal requirements according to the type, capacity, and use of the facilities to be applied for are satisfied. The hydrogen residential demonstration model presented in this paper includes solar power, energy storage system (ESS), fuel cell, and water electrolysis facilities in electrical facilities for private use with low-voltage power receiving system. The concept of operations strategy for this model focuses on securing the energy self-sufficiency ratio of the entire system, securing economic feasibility through the optimal operation module installed in the energy management system (EMS), and securing the stability of the internal power balancing issue during the stand-alone mode. An electric facility configuration method of a hydrogen residential complex demonstrated to achieve this operational goal has a structure in which individual energy sources are electrically connected to the main bus, and ESS is also directly connected to the main bus instead of a renewable connection type to perform charging/discharging operation for energy balancing management in the complex. If surplus power exists after scheduling, participation in power trading through reverse transmission parallel operation can be considered to solve the energy balancing problem and ensure profitability. Consequentially, this paper reviews the legal regulations on participation in electric power trading using surplus power from hydrogen residential models that can produce and consume power, gas, and thermal energy including hybrid distributed power sources, and suggests action plans.

In this study, Br-PPO was developed by applying additive organic particles through a suspension polymerization synthesis method. The anion exchange membrane fuel cell system performance was evaluated using it to an anion exchange membrane. To improve the performance, organic ion exchange particles were prepared and added to the anion exchange membrane. Chemical structure analysis and synthesis were determined through FT-IR and NMR, and tensile strength and thermal stability were measured through TGA and UTM to determine whether it could be driven. Before the anion exchange membrane fuel cell test, the performance was evaluated by measuring the ion conductivity and ion exchange capacity. Finally, the Br-PPO-TMA-SDV (0.7%) anion exchange membrane with excellent ion conductivity and ion exchange capacity was introduced into the fuel cell system. Its performance was compared with FAA-3-50, a commercial membrane, to determine whether it could be introduced into a fuel cell system.
Hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), commonly referred to as Boron Nitride Nanoribbons (BNNRs), is an electrical insulator characterized by high thermal stability and a wide bandgap semiconductor property. This study delves into the electronic properties of two BNNR configurations: Armchair BNNRs (ABNNRs) and Zigzag BNNRs (ZBNNRs). Utilizing the nearest-neighbour tight-binding approach and numerical methods, the electronic properties of BNNRs were simulated. A simplifying assumption, the Hamiltonian matrix is used to compute the electronic properties by considering the self-interaction energy of a unit cell and the interaction energy between the unit cells. The edge perturbation is applied to the selected atoms of ABNNRs and ZBNNRs to simulate the electronic properties changes. This simulation work is done by generating a custom script using numerical computational methods in MATLAB software. When benchmarked against a reference study, our results aligned closely in terms of band structure and bandgap energy for ABNNRs. However, variations were observed in the peak values of the continuous curves for the local density of states. This discrepancy can be attributed to the use of numerical methods in our study, in contrast to the semi-analytical approach adopted in the reference work.

Ag sintering technologies have received great attention as it was applied to the inverter of Tesla's electric vehicle Model III. Ag sinter bonding technology has advantages in heat dissipation design as well as high-temperature stability due to the intrinsic properties of the material, so it is useful for practical use of SiC and GaN devices. This study was carried out to understand the sinter joining temperature effect on the robust Ag sintered joints in air without pressure within 10 min. Electroplated Ag finished Cu dies (3 mm × 3 mm × 2 mm) and substrates (10 mm × 10 mm × 2 mm) were introduced, respectively, and nano Ag paste was applied as a bonding material. The sinter joining process was performed without pressure in air with the bonding temperature as a variable of 175 ℃, 200 ℃, 225 ℃, and 250 ℃. As results, the bonding temperature of 175 ℃ caused 13.21 MPa of die shear strength, and when the bonding temperature was raised to 200 ℃, the bonding strength increased by 157% to 33.99 MPa. When the bonding temperature was increased to 225 ℃, the bonding strength of 46.54 MPa increased by about 37% compared to that of 200 ℃, and even at a bonding temperature of 250 ℃, the bonding strength exceeded 50 MPa. The bonding strength of Ag sinter joints was directly influenced by changes in the necking thickness and interfacial connection ratio. In addition, developments in the morphologies of the joint interface and porous structure have a significant effect on displacement. This study is systematically discussed on the relationship between processing temperatures and bonding strength of Ag sinter joints.

This review explores the potential of pillared bentonite materials as solid acid catalysts for synthesizing diethyl ether, a promising renewable energy source. Diethyl ether offers numerous environmental benefits over fossil fuels, such as lower emissions of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon oxides (COx) gases and enhanced fuel properties, like high volatility and low flash point. Generally, the synthesis of diethyl ether employs homogeneous acid catalysts, which pose environmental impacts and operational challenges. This review discusses bentonite, a naturally occurring alumina silicate, as a heterogeneous acid catalyst due to its significant cation exchange capacity, porosity, and ability to undergo modifications such as pillarization. Pillarization involves intercalating polyhydroxy cations into the bentonite structure, enhancing surface area, acidity, and thermal stability. Despite the potential advantages, challenges remain in optimizing the yield and selectivity of diethyl ether production using pillared bentonite. The review highlights the need for further research using various metal oxides in the pillarization process to enhance surface properties and acidity characteristics, thereby improving the catalytic performance of bentonite for the synthesis of diethyl ether. This development could lead to more efficient, environmentally friendly synthesis processes, aligning with sustainable energy goals.

Ceramic materials are being explored as alternatives to toxic lead sheets for radiation shielding due to their favorable properties like durability, thermal stability, and aesthetic appeal. However, crafting effective ceramics for radiation shielding entails complex processes, raising production costs. To investigate local viability, this study evaluated Malaysian ceramic tiles for shielding in diagnostic X-ray rooms. Different ceramics in terms of density and thickness were selected from local manufacturers. Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) characterized ceramic compositions, while Monte Carlo Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System (MC PHITS) simulations determined Linear Attenuation Coefficient (LAC), Half-value Layer (HVL), Mass Attenuation Coefficient (MAC), and Mean Free Path (MFP) within the 40-150 kV energy range. Comparative analysis between MC PHITS simulations and real setups was conducted. The C3-S9 ceramic sample, known for homogeneous full-color structure, showcased superior shielding attributes, attributed to its high density and iron content. Notably, energy levels considerably impacted radiation penetration. Overall, C3-S9 demonstrated strong shielding performance, underlining Malaysia's potential ceramic tile resources for X-ray room radiation shielding.
Submarine mud volcanos are topographic features that resemble volcanoes, and are formed due to eruptions of fluidized or gasified sediment material. They have gained attention as a source of subsurface heat, sediment, or hydrocarbons supplied to the surface. In the continental slope of the Canadian Beaufort Sea, mud volcano exists at various water depths. The MV420, is an active mud volcano erupting at a water depth of 420 meters, and it has been the subject of extensive study. The Korea Polar Research Institute(KOPRI) collected high-resolution seismic data and heat flow data around the caldera of the mud volcano. By analyzing the multi-channel seismic data, we confirmed the reverse-polarity reflector assumed by a gas hydrate-related bottom simulating reflector(BSR). To further elucidate the relationship between the BSR and gas hydrates, as well as the thermal structure of the mud volcano, a numerical geothermal model was developed based on the steady-state heat equation. Using this model, we estimated the base of the gas hydrate stability zone and found that the BSR depth estimated by multi-channel seismic data and the bottom of the gas hydrate stability zone were in good agreement., This suggests the presence of gas hydrates, and it was determined that the depth of the gas hydrate was likely up to 50 m, depending on the distance from the mud conduit. Thus, this depth estimate slightly differs from previous studies.
