Observations from experiments and real fire indicate that restrained steel beams have better fire-resistant capability than isolated beams. Due to the effects of restraints, a steel beam in fire condition can undergo very large deflections and the run away damage may be avoided. In addition, axial forces will be induced with temperature increasing and play an important role on the behaviour of the restrained beam. The factors influencing the behavior of a restrained beam subjected to fire include the stiffness of axial and rotational restraints, the load type on the beam and the distribution of temperature in the cross-section of the beam, etc. In this paper, a simplified model is proposed to analyze the performance of restrained steel beams in fire condition. Based on an assumption of the deflection curve of the beam, the axial force, together with the strain and stress distributions in the beam, can be determined. By integrating the stress, the combined moment and force in the cross-section of the beam can be obtained. Then, through substituting the moment and axial force into the equilibrium equation, the behavior of the restrained beam in fire condition can be worked out. Furthermore, for the safety evaluation and repair after a fire, the behaviour of restrained beams during cooling should be understood. For a restrained beam experiencing very high temperatures, the strength of the steel will recover when temperature decreases, but the contraction force, which is produced by thermal contraction, will aggravate the tensile stresses in the beam. In this paper, the behaviour of the restrained beam in cooling phase is analyzed, and the effect of the contraction force is discussed.

Stress is the main cause of warpage failure of very thin substrates with thickness of several hundred ㎛, such as IC packages. Stress usually results from differences in crystal structures and corresponding thermal expansion coefficients when depositing different substances on a substrate. In this study, the behaviors of stress occurring in substrates were numerically analyzed by the thin-film pattern of the rectangles stacked on the substrates. First, the substrate displacement was obtained and the substrate strain and stress were obtained using it. When the tensile force is concentrated at the edge of the thin film pattern, normal and shear stresses are generated around the edge of the thin film pattern. Normal stress occurs near the edges of the thin film pattern and the vertexes. Shear stress also occurs around the edge of the thin film pattern, but unlike normal stress, it does not appear near the vertexes. It was also confirmed that the magnitude and direction of shear stress are changed around the edge. When edge forces of thin-film pattern are equal, the normal stress was about 10 times larger than the shear stress. This indicates that normal stress is the biggest cause of warpage failure.
A transient heat transfer analysis and thermo-elastic analysis have been performed for the residual stress distribution on the fillet weldment used by finite element method. Specimen is fabricated single-pass fillet welding. This computation was performed for conditions including surface heat flux and temperature dependent thermo-physical properties using by heat input as parameter. Also, cut-off temperature of residual stress estimation by thermo-elastic analysis is determined. The fillet weldment were measured to determined their residual stress distributions for using hole-drilling method. As result, it was found that large tensile residual stress is about material yield strength, and the numerical simulation results for finite element method similar to residual stresses by hole-drilling method and other exiting research. Also, cut-off temperature is effectively determined by temperature which calculated maximum thermal stress equal to material yield strength.

In this study, joining methods with SiC powder as the joining adhesives were studied in order to avoid the residual stresses coming from CTE (Coefficient of Thermal Expansion) mismatch between substrate and joining layer. The shear strength and microstructure of joined material between SiC substrates are investigated. The commercial Hexoloy-SA (Saint-Gobain Ceramics, USA) used in this work as substrate material. The fine ${\beta}$-SiC nano-powder which the average particle size is below 30 nm, $Al_2O_3$, $Y_2O_3$, and $SiO_2$ were used as joining adhesives. The specimens were joined with 20MPa and $1400-1900^{\circ}C$ by hot pressing in argon atmosphere. The shear test was performed to investigate the bonding strength. The cross-section of the joint was characterized by using an optical microscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
pH adjustment would be of advantage in improving the water holding capacity of muscle proteins. The objective of this study was to evaluate the addition of fish sarcoplasmic protein (SP) solution, which was adjusted to pH 3.0 or 12.0, neutralized to pH 7.0, and lyophilized to obtain the acid- and alkaline-treated SP samples, on the functional properties of the chicken myofibrillar protein induced by microbial transglutaminase (MTG). The solubility of alkaline-treated SP was higher than that of the acid counterpart; however, those values of the two pH-treated samples were lower than that of normal SP (p<0.05). All SP solutions were mixed with myofibrillar proteins (MP) extracted from chicken breast, and incubated with MTG. The shear stresses of MP with acid- and alkaline-treated SP were higher than that of normal SP. The thermal stability of MP mixture reduced upon adding SP, regardless of the pH treatment. The breaking force of MP gels with acid-treated SP increased more than those of alkaline-treated SP, while normal SP showed the highest value. The MP gel lightness increased, but cooking loss reduced, with the addition of SP. Smooth microstructure of the gel surface was observed. These results indicated that adjusting the pH of SP improved the water holding capacity of chicken myofibrillar proteins induced by MTG.
Coal ash from thermal power plants has been produced in large quantity and discarded uselessly, However, it is possible to supply construction material properly by utilizing the coal ash as construction material. In this study, the applicable model and its applicability for deformation analysis of coal ash fill and reclamation ground are studied. Camflay model gives complete constitutive law which illustrates deformation and pore water pressure while soil is loaded under the various stresses at drained and undrained conditions. The merit of proposed model which is acquired from laboratory tests is that only a few soil parameters are available. The whole parameters of Camflay model are obtained by typical mechanical test and CV triaxial test on the sample with optimum mixing ratio( i.e. fly ash : bottom ash=5:5) Then the results from proposed numerical analysis are compared with laboratory results. The differences between laboratory test and numerical analysis are negligible. Parameters deter mined from laboratory tests are useful as a basic data for deformation analysis of coal ash reclamation ground using Camflay model.

An Off grid or remote solar electric systems are an energy supply to our home or to our companies without the utility of Grid at all. Off grid solar systems are very important for those who live in remote locations especially for developing countries where getting the electric grid is extremely expensive, inconvenient or for those who doesn't need to pay a monthly bill with the electric bill in general. The main critical components of any solar power system or renewable energy harvesting systems are the energy storage systems and its charge controller system. Energy storage systems are the essential integral part of a solar energy harvesting system and in general for all renewable energy harvesting systems. To provide an optimal solution of both high power density and high energy density at the same time we have to use hybrid energy storage systems (HESS), that combine two or more energy storage technologies with complementary characteristics. In this present work, design and simulation we use two storage systems supercapacitor for high power density and lithium based battery for high energy density. Here the system incorporates fast-response supercapacitors to provide power to manage solar smoothing and uses a battery for load shifting. On this paper discuss that the total energy throughout of the battery is much reduced and the typical thermal stresses caused by high discharge rate responses are mitigated by integrating supercapacitors with the battery storage system. In addition of the above discussion the off grid solar electric energy harvesting presented in this research paper includes battery and supercapacitor management system, MPPT (maximum power point tracking) system and back/boost convertors. On this present work the entire model of off grid electric energy harvesting system and all other functional blocks of that system is implemented in MATLAB Simulink.

This study investigates the response of functionally graded (FG) gas pipe under unsteady internal pressure and temperature. The pipe is proposed to be manufactured from FGMs rather than custom carbon steel, to reduce the erosion, corrosion, pressure surge and temperature variation effects caused by conveying of gases. The distribution of material graduations are obeying power and sigmoidal functions varying with the pipe thickness. The sigmoidal distribution is proposed for the 1st time in analysis of FG pipe structure. A Two-dimensional (2D) plane strain problem is proposed to model the pipe cross-section. The Fourier law is applied to describe the heat flux and temperature variation through the pipe thickness. The time variation of internal pressure is described by using exponential-harmonic function. The proposed problem is solved numerically by a two-dimensional (2D) plane strain finite element ABAQUS software. Nine-node isoparametric element is selected. The proposed model is verified with published results. The effects of material graduation, material function, temperature and internal pressures on the response of FG gas pipe are investigated. The coupled temperature and displacement FEM solution is used to find a solution for the stress displacement and temperature fields simultaneously because the thermal and mechanical solutions affected greatly by each other. The obtained results present the applicability of alternative FGM materials rather than classical A106Gr.B steel. According to proposed model and numerical results, the FGM pipe is more effective in natural gas application, especially in eliminating the corrosion, erosion and reduction of stresses.
LED luminaires as a lighting system have attracted much research attention due to their high efficiency and long lifetimes. However, disappointing outcomes have been noted in terms of performance levels and lifetimes as compared to desired system requirements in practice due to certain electrical and thermal characteristics of LEDs. LM-80 and TM-21 established by IESNA are the best known standards for lifetime test procedures and estimation techniques. However, they only handle LED light sources without guaranteeing the LED luminaire in a reliability test. They also operate for more than 6,000 hours and undergo various stresses, such as the operating current and temperature. Therefore, a lifetime standard for LED luminaires has not yet been established. This paper proposes a conceptual design of a lifetime test system for LED headlamps depending on the operating environment. Eventually, this method can assist with evaluations of the validity of lifetime standard tests of LED headlamps.
