The use of geothermal energy has increased for economically and environmentally friendly utilization, and a geothermal heat pump (GSHP) system for space heating and cooling is being used widely. As ground thermal properties such as ground thermal conductivity and ground thermal diffusivity are substantial parameters in the design of geothermal heat pump system, ground thermal conductivity should be obtained from in-situ thermal response test (TRT). This paper presents an experimental study of ground thermal properties of U and 2U type ground heat exchangers (GHEs) measured by TRTs. The U and 2U type GHEs were installed in a partially saturated dredged soil deposit, and TRTs were conducted for 48 hours. A method to derive the thermal diffusivity as well as thermal conductivity was proposed from a non-linear regression analysis. In addition, remolded soil samples from different layers were collected from the field, and soil specimens were reconstructed according to the field ground condition. Then equivalent ground thermal conductivity and ground thermal diffusivity were calculated from the lab test results and they were compared with the in-situ TRT results.

The thermal characteristics of high-speed air spindle system with built-in motor are studied. Experiment and finite element method analysis obtain temperature rise and temperature distribution of housing. For the analysis three-dimensional model is built and temperature rise and distribution in thermal steady state are computed for each rotational frequency. Generally. It is said that the heat generation of air bearing is negligible. But it is certain that the heat generation of air bearing can not be negligible especially in high-speed conditions Frequency response test for air spindle system is executed. In case that the heat generation of air spindle system is high, natural frequency of the system becomes lower when it reaches thermal steady-state and it means that the stiffness of air hearing becomes smaller due to the change of bearing clearance. It is shown that the temperature rise of all spindle system causes thermal expansion md induces the variation of hearing clearance. In consequence the st illness of air bearing becomes smaller.
A mathematical model of Lord-Shulman photo-thermal theorem induced by pulse heat flux is presented to study the propagations waves for plasma, thermal and elastic in two-dimensional semiconductor materials. The medium is assumed initially quiescent. By using Laplace-Fourier transforms with the eigenvalue method, the variables are obtained analytically. A semiconductor medium such as silicon is investigated. The displacements, stresses, the carrier density and temperature distributions are calculated numerically and clarified graphically. The outcomes show that thermal relaxation time has varying degrees of effects on the studying fields.

In this study, a series of CFD analysis was performed in order to predict the leaving water temperature and the slope of in-situ thermal response tests of the vertical-type geothermal heat exchangers. The geothermal heat exchanger and surrounding ground formation were modeled using GAMBIT and simulation was used by utilizing FLUENT which is commercial CFD code. Comparing with the results of CFD and in-situ thermal response tests, the results of CFD was presented good agreement with $0.5^{\circ}C$ difference of Leaving Water Temperature and with 1.6% difference of the Slope.
Objective: The main objective of this study was to define molecular mechanisms associated with thermal stress responses of chickens from commercial broilers (BR, Ross 308), Thai native chickens (NT) and crossbreeds between BR×NT (H75). Methods: Twenty days before reaching specific market age, chickens from each breed were divided into control and thermal-stressed groups. The stressed groups were exposed to a cyclic thermal challenge (35℃±1℃ for 6 h, followed by 26℃±1℃ for 18 h) for 20 days. Control group was raised under a constant temperature of 26℃±1℃. Pectoralis major (n = 4) from each group was collected for transcriptome analysis using HiSeq Illumina and analysis of glycogen and lactate. Gene expression patterns between control and thermal-stressed groups were compared within the same breeds. Results: Differentially expressed transcripts of 65, 59, and 246 transcripts for BR, NT, and H75, respectively, were revealed by RNA-Seq and recognized by Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes database. Pathway analysis underlined altered glucose homeostasis and protein metabolisms in all breeds. The signals centered around phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt signaling, focal adhesion, and MAPK signaling in all breeds with slight differences in molecular signal transduction patterns among the breeds. An extensive apoptosis was underlined for BR. Roles of AMPK, MAPK signaling and regulation of actin cytoskeleton in adaptive response were suggested for H75 and NT chickens. Lower glycogen content was observed in the breast muscles of BR and NT (p<0.01) compared to their control counterparts. Only BR muscle exhibited increased lactate (p<0.01) upon exposure to the stress. Conclusion: The results provided a better comprehension regarding the associated biological pathways in response to the cyclic thermal stress in each breed and in chickens with different growth rates.
Hybrid rocket combustion has a manifestation of stable response to the perturbations compared to solid propellant combustion. Recently, it has revealed that the low frequency combustion instability about 10 Hz was occurred mainly due to thermal inertia of solid fuel. In this paper, the combustion response function was theoretically derived by use of ZN (Zeldovich-Novozhilov) method. The result with HTPB/LOX combination showed a quite good agreement in response function with previous works and could predict the low frequency oscillations with a peak around 10 Hz which was observed experimentally. Also, it was found that the amplification region in the frequency domain is independent of the regression rate exponent n but showed the dependence of activation energy. Moreover, the response function has shown that the hybrid combustion system was stable due to negative heat release of solid fuel for vaporization, even though the addition of energetic ingredients such as AP and Al could lead to increase heat release at the fuel surface.
In this paper, a study of thermal response of two types of functionally graded materials (FCM) plates composed of $\textrm{Al}_2\textrm{O}_3$ and Ti-6Al-4V is presented. The material properties of the functionally graded plates are assumed to vary continuously through the thickness of the plate according to a power law distribution of the volume fraction of the constituents. It is supposed that the top and bottom surfaces of the plate are heated and kept as constant thermal boundary conditions. The fundamental equations for rectangular plates of FGM are obtained using Hamilton's variational principles. The solution is obtained in terms of Navier Solution. The influence of volume fraction and temperature is studied on the static deflection and natural frequency of FCM plate.

This study was designed to examine the immune response in Korean rockfish during water temperature fluctuation and to elucidate the factors contributing to streptococcal pathogenesis in cultured Korean rockfish, S. schlegeli. We investigated cumulative mortality against Streptococcus iniae (FP5228 strain) infection in the exposed Korean rockfish (39.7±5.8 g) to environmentally relevant temperature (Control, 23℃; High temperature, 28℃ and 23℃ and 28℃ with 12 hours interval exchange, 23↔28℃) for 48 hours. Also, the expression of the mRNA related to the immune response genes (heat shock protein 70, interleukin1β, lysozyme g-type and thioredoxin-like 1) were measured in spleen and head kidney by real-time PCR analysis in the exposed fish to thermal stress. In this study, the combined stress with bacterial challenge in fishes exposed to thermal stress lowered the survival rate than that of control (23℃). The cumulative mortality in the group of control, 28℃ and 23↔28℃ was 24%, 24% and 40% (P<0.05), respectively. Also, thermal stress modulated the mRNA level of immune related genes; heat shock protein 70, interleukin-1β, lysozyme g-type and thioredoxin-like 1 in Korean rockfish. The present study indicates that a high and sudden water temperature change affect immune responses and reduce the disease resistance in Korean rockfish.
Thermal control of satellite propellant tank is achieved by patch heaters enabled by thermostat's behavior. It is important to attach the thermostat on the appropriate position of the propellant tank. However its position cannot be given with exact numerics because tank is spherical. Actually the position for thermostat is designated in relevant drawing approximately, therby, the engineer practices depending on his own experience and intuition. The sensitivity analysis for the position of thermostat is performed such that the influence on the thermal behavior and control of tank is examined quantatively. When assembling tank module, the reasonable performance on the thermal control is believed with possible human errors if the uncertainty in the position of thermostat is not quite large.
