Pd/Si/Ti/Pt and Pd/Si/Pd/Ti/Au ohmic contacts to n-type InCaAs were investigated for applications to AlGaAs/GaAs HBT emitter ohmic contacts. In the Pd/Si/Ti/Pt ohmic contact, as-deposited contact showed non-ohmic behavior, and high specific contact resistivity of $5\times10^{-3}\Omega\textrm{cm}^2$ was achieved by rapid thermal annealing at $375^{\circ}C$/10 sec. However, the specific contact resistivity decreased remarkably to $2\times10^{-6}\Omega\textrm{cm}^2$ by annealing at $425^{\circ}C$/10sec. In the Pd/Si/Pd/Ti/Au ohmic contact, minimum specific contact resistivity of $3.9\times10^{-7}\Omega\textrm{cm}^2$ was achieved by annealing at $400^{\circ}C$/20sec. In both ohmic contacts, low contact resistivity and non-spiking planar interface between ohmic materials and InGaAs were maintained. Therefore, these thermally stable ohmic contact systems are promising candidates for compound semiconductor devices. RF performance of the AlGaAs/GaAs HBT was also examined by employing the Pd/Si/Ti/Pt and Pd/Si/Pd/Ti/Au systems as emitter ohmic contacts. Cutoff frequencies were 63.9 ㎓ and 74.4 ㎓, respectively, and maximum oscillation frequencies were 50.1 ㎓ and 52.5 ㎓, respectively. It shows very successful high frequency operations.

In this paper, we applied coupled non-isothermal, multiphase fluid flow and geomechanical numerical modeling using TOUGH-FLAC coupled analysis to study the complex thermodynamic and geomechanical performance of underground lined rock caverns (LRC) for compressed air energy storage (CAES). Mechanical stress in concrete linings as well as pressure and temperature within a storage cavern were examined during initial and long-term operation of the storage cavern for CAES. Our geomechanical analysis showed that effective stresses could decrease due to air penetration pressure, and tangential tensile stress could develop in the linings as a result of the air pressure exerted on the inner surface of the lining, which would result in tensile fracturing. According to the simulation in which the tensile tangential stresses resulted in radial cracks, increment of linings' permeability and air leakage though the linings, tensile fracturing occurred at the top and at the side wall of the cavern, and the permeability could increase to $5.0{\times}10^{-13}m^2$ from initially prescribed $10{\times}10^{-20}m^2$. However, this air leakage was minor (about 0.02% of the daily air injection rate) and did not significantly impact the overall storage pressure that was kept constant thanks to sufficiently air tight surrounding rocks, which supports the validity of the concrete-lined underground caverns for CAES.

In this study, performance tests were conducted to investigate the applicability of a double-tube heat recovery ventilation system. Paper, aluminum, polymer, were investigated as materials for the inner tube using the same exhaust-air volume. In all cases, the temperature exchange efficiency of the aluminum tube was the highest, while the paper tube showed similar results to those of the polymer tube. This probably resulted from the differences in thermal conductivity and thicknesses of the materials. The humidity exchange efficiency was the highest for the paper tubes in all cases, while the aluminum tubes and polymer tubes showed similar results. The total heat exchange efficiency, which includes the values of humidity exchange and temperature exchange, was highest in the case of the paper tube, and the aluminum tube and the polymer tube showed similar results. In the case of the paper tube, sensible heat and latent heat exchange occur at the same time, and the coefficient of energy of the aluminum tube and polymer tube are large values, when to be compared with only applicably sensible heat exchange coefficient of the aluminum tube and the polymer tube of total heat exchange efficiency value. The results of this study could be applied to the design of a ventilation system.

In this paper a pump combiner, a key component of a high-power fiber laser, was fabricated, and its output characteristics measured using a high-power performance measuring instrument. The $(18+1){\times}1$ pump combiner consists of an optical-fiber bundle of one signal fiber and 18 pump fibers, an output optical fiber, and housing. The signal and output fibers were fabricated using polarization-maintaining optical fiber. By measuring the loss of signal light along the tapering length of the optical-fiber bundle, the tapering length was optimized to 18 mm. Signal-light insertion loss, pump-light transmittance, and polarization extinction ratio of the fabricated $(18+1){\times}1$ pump combiner were measured as 6.5%, 98.07%, and 18.0 dB respectively. The temperature distribution of the pump combiner, at a high power of 2 kW using 18 pump laser diodes, was measured and analyzed using a thermal-imaging camera.
The purpose of this study was to improve the performance of the bogie-type crematory, which is the mainstream of domestic crematory equipment. A field scale technology was investigated via increasing the volume by changing the shape of the furnace and reducing the cremation time and saving the energy usage through the optimization of burner combustion control. First, the optimized structural design through thermal flow analysis increases the volume of the main combustion chamber by about 70%, which increases the residence time of the combustion flue gas. A designed pilot crematory was then installed and the combustion behavior was tested under various operating conditions and the optimum operating plan was derived from for each furnace shape. Based on the results, the practically applicable crematory was designed and installed at Y crematorium in the P City. Optimal combustion conditions could be derived through operating the demonstration crematory furnace. The crematory time and fuel consumption could be minimized by increasing the energy efficiency by increasing the residence time of high temperature combustion flue gas. In other words, the crematory time and fuel consumption were 38 min and $21.8Nm^3$, respectively which were shortened by 44.1 and 54.4% lower than that of the existing crematory, respectively.
An effective heat transfer during freezing process was proposed in the vertical cylinder to improve the effectiveness of the heat storage. Vertical cylinder was filled with pure water in order to investigate ice-shape, temperature distribution of the liquid, temperature distribution of the cylinder tube wall, total heat storage per unit mass in the test section under the two experimental conditions; inlet temperature of working fluid is constant($-10^{\circ}C$) and inlet direction of working fluid is either upward flow or downward. Both the mean temperature of the liquid and temperature difference of cylinder tube wall in the upward were lower than those in the downward. In case that the initial temperature of water was $7^{\circ}C$ and $4^{\circ}C$, the shape of ice layer in the upward was more uniform than that in the downward. In case of $1^{\circ}C$, the shape of ice layer is formed by inlet direction of working fluid. Finally, time-varying total heat energy stored in the water in the upward was higher than that in the downward.
The artificial increase in the solar intensity incident on solar cells using lenses or mirrors can allow solar cells to generate equivalent power with a lower cost. There are two types of concentration optics for solar energy conversion. One is to use mirrors, and the other is to use Fresnel lenses. The gains that can be achieved with a Fresnel lens or a parabolic mirror are compared. The result showed the gains are comparable and the two configurations were developed competitively. In application areas of Fresnel lenses as solar concentrators, several variations of design were devised and tested. Some PV systems still use commercially available flat Fresnel lenses as concentrators. A convex linear Fresnel lens to improve the concentration ratio and the efficiency is devised and flat linear Fresnel lens in thermal energy collection is utilized. In this study, we designed and optimized flat Fresnel lens and the 'light pipe' to develop 500X concentrated solar PV system. In the process, we compare the transmission efficiencies according to groove types. We performed rigorous ray tracing simulation of the flat Fresnel lenses. The computer aided simulation showed the 'grooves in case' has the better efficiency than that of 'grooves out case'. Based on the ray-trace results we designed and manufactured sample Fresnel lenses. The optical performance were measured and compared with ray-trace results. Finally, the optical efficiency was measured to be above 75%. All the design and manufacturing were performed based on that InGaP/InGaAs/Ge triple junction solar cell is used to convert the photon energy to electrical power. Field test will be made and analyzed in the near future.
In this study, a vanadium catalyst study was conducted on the various characteristics of the exhaust gas in the Selective-Catalytic-Reduction (SCR) method in which nitrogen oxides emitted from cogeneration using biogas are removed by using ammonia as a reducing agent and a catalyst. V/W/TiO2, a commercial catalyst, was used as the catalyst in this study, and the effect was confirmed according to the tungsten content under various operating conditions. As a result of the NH3-SCR experiment, the denitrification performance was confirmed at 380 ~ 450 ℃ more than 95%, and durability to trace amounts of SO2 was confirmed through the SO2 durability experiment and TGA analysis. As a result of H2-TPR analysis, the higher the tungsten content, the better the redox properties. Accordingly, enhanced oxidizing properties were confirmed in the oxidation test for a trace amount of carbon monoxide emitted from the cogeneration. In NH3-DRIFTs analysis, it was confirmed that the higher the tungsten content, the higher both the Bronsted/Lewis acid sites and the better the thermal durability when tungsten is added to the catalyst. Based on the experiments under various operating conditions, it is considered that a catalyst with a high tungsten content is suitable to be applied to cogeneration using biogas.
The tunnel oxide passivated contact (TOPCon) structure got more consideration for development of high performance solar cells by the introduction of a tunnel oxide layer between the substrate and poly-Si is best for attaining interface passivation. The quality of passivation of the tunnel oxide layer clearly depends on the bond of SiO in the tunnel oxide layer, which is affected by the subsequent annealing and the tunnel oxide layer was formed in the suboxide region (SiO, Si2O, Si2O3) at the interface with the substrate. In the suboxide region, an oxygen-rich bond is formed as a result of subsequent annealing that also improves the quality of passivation. To control the surface morphology, annealing profile, and acceleration rate, an oxide tunnel junction structure with a passivation characteristic of 700 mV or more (Voc) on a p-type wafer could achieved. The quality of passivation of samples subjected to RTP annealing at temperatures above 900℃ declined rapidly. To improve the quality of passivation of the tunnel oxide layer, the physical properties and thermal stability of the thin layer must be considered. TOPCon silicon solar cell has a boron diffused front emitter, a tunnel-SiOx/n+-poly-Si/SiNx:H structure at the rear side, and screen-printed electrodes on both sides. The saturation currents Jo of this structure on polished surface is 1.3 fA/cm2 and for textured silicon surfaces is 3.7 fA/cm2 before printing the silver contacts. After printing the Ag contacts, the Jo of this structure increases to 50.7 fA/cm2 on textured silicon surfaces, which is still manageably less for metal contacts. This structure was applied to TOPCon solar cells, resulting in a median efficiency of 23.91%, and a highest efficiency of 24.58%, independently. The conversion efficiency of interdigitated back-contact solar cells has reached up to 26% by enhancing the optoelectrical properties for both-sides-contacted of the cells.

Heat stress (HS) damages health and decreases performance variables in pigs, and if severe enough, causes mortality. However, metabolic changes under HS and recovery following HS are poorly understood. Therefore, this study was aimed to expose the essential mechanisms by which growing pigs respond to HS and the temporal pattern of plasma concentrations (PC) of amino acids (AAs) and metabolites. Crossbred male growing pigs were penned separately and allowed to adapt to thermal-neutral (TN) conditions (20℃ and 80% relative humidity; TN[-1D]). On the first day, all pigs were exposed to HS for 24 h (36℃ and 60% relative humidity), then to TN conditions for 5 days (TN[2D] to TN[5D]). All pigs had ad libitum access to water and 3 kg feed twice daily. Rectal temperature (RT) and feed intake (FI) were determined daily. HS pigs had higher RT (40.72℃) and lower (50%) FI than TN(-1D) pigs (p < 0.01). The PC of indispensable (threonine, valine, and methionine) and dispensable (cysteine and tyrosine) AAs were higher (p < 0.05) in HS than TN(-1D) pigs and remained increased during recovery time. Nonprotein α-aminobutyric acid and β-alanine concentrations were higher (p < 0.05) in HS than TN(-1D) pigs. The metabolite concentration of creatinine was higher (p < 0.01) under HS treatment than other treatments, but that of alanine and leucine remained increased (p < 0.05) through 5 d of recovery. In summary, some major differences were found in plasma AA profiles and metabolites between HS- and TN-condition pigs. This indicates that the HS pigs were forced to alter their metabolism, and these results provide information about mechanisms of acute HS responses relative to the recovery time.
