Governments are increasing energy efficiency in buildings through various policies to reduce building energy consumption. In 2002, the European Union adopted a building energy performance guideline to set minimum efficiency standards for residential and commercial buildings. Starting in 2020, all EU member states should ensure that all buildings are Near-Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB). In Korea, the government issued a zero-energy certification system. Since 2020, public buildings are required to cover energy consumption with the energy produced in buildings. As the demand for building energy simulation has increased to increase the energy efficiency of these buildings, the International Standard Organization (ISO) has created a standard for calculating building energy requirements called ISO 13790. This standard was revised to ISO 52016 in 2017. In this research, ISO 13790, which calculates the energy needs of existing buildings, and ISO 52016, which replaces them, are compared and analyzed, and applied to the calculation of heating energy needs of buildings. For models without thermal zoning(Case A), the difference in annual heating energy needs calculated from each criterion is $1.08kWh/m^2$, which is about 2% higher in ISO 52016. In the case of the thermal zoning model(Case B), the difference in annual heating energy needs calculated by each standard was $0.97kWh/m^2$, which was about 2% higher than ISO 52016. The heating energy needs model without thermal zoning has a higher energy needs than the heating energy needs model with thermal zoning. It is about 16% energy at $8.58kWh/m^2$ for ISO 13790 and $8.69kWh/m^2$ for ISO 52016.

Large planar military antenna boasts a range of electrical components, including TRA(Transmit-Receive Assembly), signal processors, etc. which engage in computations and calculations. These processes generate a significant amount of heat, leading to unforeseen consequences for the equipment. To mitigate these adverse effects, it's imperative to implement a cooling system that can effectively reduce heat-related issues. Given the antenna's intricate nature and the multitude of components it houses, a two-step estimation process is necessary. The first step involves a comprehensive model calculation to determine the total flow characteristics, while the second step entails a thermal analysis of individual TRA set. In this study, we depicted an antenna set using simplified 3D models of its components, considering their material and thermal properties. The sequential analysis process facilitated the calculation of branched flow rates, providing insights into the individual TRA. This approach also allowed us to design a cooling system for the TRA set, assessing its thermal stability in high-temperature environments. To ensure the optimal performance of TRA, breaking down the analysis into stages based on the cooling system's structure can assist operators in predicting numerical results more effectively.
Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) are attracting wide attention due to their outstanding performance, extensive studies have been carried out for lead-based fast reactors (LFRs) that cooled with Lead or Lead-bismuth (LBE), and small modular natural circulation LFR is one of the promising candidates for SMRs and LFRs development. One of the challenges for the design small modular natural circulation LFR is to master the natural circulation thermal-hydraulic performance in the reactor primary circuit, while the natural circulation characteristics is a coupled thermal-hydraulic problem of the core thermal power, the primary loop layout and the operating state of secondary cooling system etc. Thus, accurate predicting the natural circulation LFRs thermal-hydraulic features are highly required for conducting reactor operating condition evaluate and Thermal hydraulic design optimization. In this study, a thermal-hydraulic analysis code is developed for small modular natural circulation LFRs, which is based on several mathematical models for natural circulation originally. A small modular natural circulation LBE cooled fast reactor named URANUS developed by Korea is chosen to assess the code's capability. Comparisons are performed to demonstrate the accuracy of the code by the calculation results of MARS, and the key thermal-hydraulic parameters agree fairly well with the MARS ones. As a typical application case, steady-state analyses were conducted to have an assessment of thermal-hydraulic behavior under nominal condition, and several parameters affecting natural circulation were evaluated. What's more, two characteristics parameters that used to analyze natural circulation LFRs natural circulation capacity were established. The analyses show that the core thermal power, thermal center difference and flow resistance is the main factors affecting the reactor natural circulation. Improving the core thermal power, increasing the thermal center difference and decreasing the flow resistance can significantly increase the reactor mass flow rate. Characteristics parameters can be used to quickly evaluate the natural circulation capacity of natural circulation LFR under normal operating conditions.

Thermal behavior on the cylinder block of a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke 2.0L SOHC gasoline engine was numerically and experimentally analyzed. The numerical calculation was performed using the finite element method. The cylinder block was modelled as a three dimensional finite element by considering its geometry. The physical domain was devided into hexahedron elements. 16 thermocouples were installed at points of 2mm inside from cylinder wall near top ring of piston in cylinder block, which points have suffered major thermal loads and suggested as proper measurement points for engine design by industrial engineers. Under full load and 9$0^{\circ}C$ coolant temperature condition, temperature behavior of cylinder block according to engine speed were analyzed. The results showed that temperature rose gradually to conform to a function of 2nd~4th order of engine speed at intake side, exhaust and siamese side, respectively. As engine load was changed from 100 to 50% by 25% step, temperature curve also conformed to 2nd~7th order function of engine speed. Temperature differences by load condition were similar among 100, 75% and 50%. Under full load and coolant temperature of 11$0^{\circ}C$, temperature behavior were also analyzed and the result also showed conformance to 2n d~7th order function of engine speed. Temperature curve was transferred in parallel upwards corresponding coolant temperature rise.

As the power electronics system increases the frequency, the power loss and thermal management are paid more attention. This research presents a real time model of dissipation power with junction temperature response for 120kw IGBT inverter which is applied to the thermal management of high power IGBT inverter. Since the computational time is critical for real time simulation, look-up tables of IGBT module characteristic curve are implemented. The power loss from IGBT provides a clue to calculate the temperature of each module of IGBT. In this study, temperature of each layer in IGBT is predicted by lumped capacitance analysis of layers with convective heat transfer. The power loss and temperature of layers in IGBT is then communicated due to mutual dependence. In the dynamic model, PWM pulses are employed to calculation real time IGBT and diode power loss. Under Matlab/Simulink$^{(R)}$ environment, the dynamic model is validated with experiment. Results showed that the dynamic response of power loss is closely coupled with effective thermal management. The convective heat transfer is enough to achieve proper thermal management under guideline temperature.

This paper deals with the temperature calculation using equivalent thermal network for surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM) under the steady-state condition. In the equivalent thermal network, heat sources are generated from copper loss and iron loss. Heat transfer consists of conduction, convection and radiation. However, radiation is neglected in this paper because its effect is much smaller than others. Although the heat transfer coefficient in conduction use material property, heat transfer coefficient in convection is difficult to measure due to the atmosphere and ambient condition. Temperatures of each region in SPMSM are measured by thermocouple in operating condition and the thermal resistances of convection are calculated by kirchhoff's current law(KCL) and experimental result. In order to verify the validation and reliability of the proposed equivalent thermal network, temperature which is calculated other load condition is compared with experimental results. Accordingly, temperatures of each region in other SPMSMs will be easily predicted by the proposed equivalent thermal network.
Since a typical plate heat exchanger is made up of a huge number of unitary cells, it may be impossible to predict the aero-thermal performance of the full scale heat exchanger through three-dimensional numerical simulation due to the enormous amount of computing resources and time required. In the present study, a simple flow-network model using the friction factor correlation and a thermal-network model based on the effectiveness-number of transfer units (${\varepsilon}$-NTU) method has been developed. The complicated flow pattern inside the cross-corrugated heat exchanger has been modeled into flow and thermal networks. Using this model, the heat transfer between neighboring streams can be considered, and the pressure drop and the heat transfer rate of full-scale heat exchanger matrix are calculated. In the calculation, the aero-thermal performance of each unitary cell of the heat exchanger matrix was evaluated using correlations of the Fanning friction factor f and the Nusselt number Nu, which were calculated by unitary-cell CFD model.

This paper reviewed and evaluated some of the commonly used prediction models for thermal conductivity of soils with the experimental data. Semi-theoretical models for two-component materials were found inappropriate to estimate the thermal conductivity of dry state soils. It came out that the model developed by Cote and Konrad gave the best overall prediction results for unsaturated soils available in the literature. However, it still needs to be improved to cover a wider range of soil types and degrees of saturation. In the present study, parametric analysis is also conducted to investigate the effect of soil type and moisture content on the horizontal ground heat exchanger design. The analysis shows that horizontal ground heat exchanger pipe length is reduced with the increase of soil thermal conductivity and water content. The calculation results also show that horizontal ground heat exchanger size can be reduced to a certain extent by using backfilling material with a higher thermal conductivity of solid particles.

This study is focused on the evaluation of thermal output of TABS (Thermally Activated Building System). The aim of this study is to evaluate TABS in terms of the temperature difference between heating medium supply temperature ($T_s$) and return temperature ($T_r$), thermal output and the surface temperature distribution according to the design flow rate and the design flow temperature. Through the transient heat transfer simulation using temperature calculation using Crank-Nicolson FDM using Physibel Voltra 6.0 W, the temperature difference between $T_s$ and $T_r$, thermal output and the surface temperature distribution of specific TABS was calculated and evaluated. The results show that specific thermal output and temperature difference at $60^{\circ}C$ of supply water temperature were about 162 $W/m^2$, $13.6^{\circ}C$ respectively.

A Simple Large Model (SLM), which can be used to make thermal calculation for a deep geological repository with finite number of HLW canisters, was developed. In order to develop the SLM, a Simple Basic Model (SBM), which will be a unit of the SLM, was optimized first. The SBM was optimized to achieve the same maximum buffer temperature as that of the Detailed Basic Model (DBM) representing the real geometric aspects of the repository. In contrast to the models with the assumption of infinite number of canisters which cannot consider boundary effect, the SLM can model the real repository with finite number of canisters and thus consider the boundary effect. Thermal results from the SLM can be used to evaluate the reliability of the models, which do not consider boundary effect. This model can also be used to simulate the thermal layout design and to analyze the thermal safety of a deep geological repository as well as an underground laboratory.
