This paper concerns the static, dynamic and thermal characteristics analysis of a high-speed spindle system for horizontal machining centers with 45mm x50,000rpm. The spindle system is designed based on the angular contact ceramic ball bearings, built-in motor, oil-air lubrication method and oil jacket cooling method. The structural and thermal analysis models of spindle system are constructed by the finite element method. The static and dynamic characteristics are estimated based on the static deformation, modal parameter, mode shape and frequency response function, and the thermal characteristics are estimated based on the temperature rise, temperature distribution and thermal deformation. The analysis results illustrate that the designed spindle system has excellent structural and thermal stabilities

Magnetron is applied in microwave ovens for generating microwaves. It is composed of r-fin, yoke, A/F seals, gasket base, filter box. The temperature is occurred highly, when magnetron operate in its systems. Therefore the thermal characteristics must be considered in the design of magnetron. Because of its geometric complex, it is difficult to analysis the thermal characteristics. In this paper, temperature analysis is performed for all components. The commercial software ANSYS is used to consider both conduction and convection. The analysis is carried out by adding each component. An experiment on the thermal characteristics is performed to verify the reliability for simulation.

In this study, two finite element (FE) models were developed to evaluate the thermal characteristics of a feeding axis of a CNC lathe. One was used for analysis of heat transfer to identify the temperature distribution of the feeding axis and then, the other was used for analysis of thermal deformation to evaluate its structural behavior based on the temperature distribution. The FE models were based on the test standard for the axial thermal displacement. The feeding velocity was composed of three steps: the ascending, constant, and descending velocities. Therefore, the heat generation and convection coefficient were calculated for each velocity and applied to the thermal FE model. The convection coefficient for the ball screw rotation was based on an experimental equation. The result of the analytical thermal displacement was compared with that of the experimental displacement to verify the finite element models.

Thermal characteristics according to the cooling methods are studied for the three type spindles with high frequency motor. For the analysis, three dimensional mode]s are built considering heat transfer characteristics such as natural and force convection coefficients. Unsteady-state temperature distributions and thermal deformations according to the cooling conditions are analyzed by using the finite element method.

This paper presents the thermal characteristics analysis of a high-speed motor-separated spindle system consisted of angular contact ball bearings and built-in motor with oil-jet lubrication. The spindle system is composed of the main spindle and sub-spindle which are mechanically connected by a flexible coupling. The spindles are supported by two front and rear bearings, and the built-in motor is located between the front and rear bearings of the sub-spindle. The thermal analysis model of spindle system is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on temperature distribution and heat flow under the various testing conditions related to material of bearing ball, spindle speed and coolant temperature.

High speed vehicles are subjected to high thermal loadings due to aerodynamic heating during ascent and reentry. Since a thermal protection system panel is mechanically constrained, it may cause thermal buckling under excessive thermal loadings. The thermal buckling could disturb the field of flow and make aerodynamic characteristics unstable. It is thus necessary to design the thermal protection system panel to prevent thermal buckling. This study defines the analytical model of temperature distribution using the finite difference method for the thermal protection system panel with large temperature differences inside and outside. This paper proposes the approximate model of the thermal buckling characteristics for the thermal protection system panel through the use of the Ritz method. The validity of the present method was verified by comparing the results of the finite element analysis. Furthermore, this research performs the parametric analysis of the thermal buckling characteristics for the thermal protection system panel by using the approximate model.

Rib structure has been used to bed and column of machine tool to heighten weight stiffness ratio, cost performance and weight saving. In this paper the bed rib structure was estimated with thermal characteristics. Using superposition principle, machine tool designer can describe every complicated heat generation in the machine tool thermal source. As thermal characteristics, thermal deformation of guide rail and column and Maximum-minimum temperature variation were selected. The size, configuration and direction against the thermal loading surface operated to the thermal characteristics. The DB chart was made following rib structure estimating thermal characteristics. With superposition principle and DB chart, machine tool designer can prognosticate the thermal characteristics without FEM analysis to every bed rib structure.

Nowadays, Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) which having high power density is much used for the vehicles. However, IPMSM causes a lot of losses because of high-speed driving and high current density, and temperature rising by iron loss and copper loss could reduce torque characteristics and durability of IPMSM. Therefore, analysis about thermal characteristics of IPMSM is required at design stage. In this paper, temperature characteristics according to current vector control method were analyzed through calculate thermal equivalent circuit. And calculated results were verified through comparing with the experiments.

This study performed analysis on the thermal pattern and current characteristics of an LED ((Light Emitting Diode) street lamp. It did this using a TVS (Thermal Video System) to analyze the LED street lamp's thermal pattern, and measured its characteristics using an oscilloscope. The ambient temperature and humidity during the experiment were maintained at $24{\pm}2[^{\circ}C]$ and 50~60[%]. The capacity of the LED street lamp was 120[W] and nine sets of modules were arranged at uniform intervals. On one module, 24 LED lamps were arranged in a radial pattern. The analysis of the thermal diffusion pattern at the front of the LED lamp showed that the maximum surface temperature was approximately $34[^{\circ}C]$. In addition, there was almost no change in the temperature of the upper cover, and the temperature at the side showed a uniform thermal diffusion pattern. The surface temperature of the converter converting AC to DC increased to approximately $46[^{\circ}C]$. The analysis results of the thermal characteristics of one LED indicated uniform thermal characteristics for an initial eight minutes. However, the temperature at the center of the LED increased to approximately $82[^{\circ}C]$ after 12 minutes had elapsed. It can be seen from this that the temperature at the center of the LED was higher than the allowable temperature, $70[^{\circ}C]$ of the insulating material for general electrical devices. Therefore, it is necessary to design a lamp in such a way that the plastic insulating material does not come into contact with or get close to the LED lamp. The voltage of the LED lamp converted by the AC/DC converter was measured at DC 27[V] and the current was DC 13[A]. Consequently, it can be seen that in order to secure an adequate light source, it is important to supply a stable current that was greater than the current of other light sources. Therefore, appropriate radiation of heat is required to secure the stability and reliability of the system.

The three-phase canned induction motor, which consists of a stator and rotor with a seal can, is used for the main coolant pump (MCP) of the System-integrated Modular Advanced Reactor (SMART). The thermal characteristics of the can must be estimated exactly, since the eddy current loss of the can is a dominant parameter in design. Besides the insulation of the motor winding is compared of Teflon, glass fiber, and air, so it is not an easy task to analyze. A FEM thermal analysis was per-formed by using the thermal properties of complex insulation which were obtained by comparing the results of finite element thermal analysis and those of the experiment. As a result, it is shown that the characteristics of prototype canned induction motor have a good agreement with the results of FEM.
