Reuse of Waste Activated Sludge from Livestock Wastewater Treatment Process using Thermal and Ozone Oxidation Treatment Method (열처리 및 오존산화처리를 이용한 축산폐수처리장 폐활성오니의 재활용)

  • Thermal treatment and ozone oxidation methods were examined to reuse waste activated sludge (WAS) produced from a livestock wastewater treatment plant. Analysis of WAS property was made to study usefulness of the recycled waste as fertilizer. From the results of quantitative analysis, WAS particles were found to be composed of 44.25 wt% carbon, 8.43 wt% nitrogen, and 1.35 wt% phosphorus. It was confirmed that the inactivation of pathogenic microorganism was required from the quantitative analysis of microbes. From the results of TSS, COD, SCOD, and pathogenic microorganism measurement, the optimal operating conditions of thermal treatment and ozone oxidation were determined to be 70, 10 min and $0.6L\;O_3/L\;solution{\cdot}min$, 60 min, respectively. The optimized thermal treatment and ozone oxidation represented the efficient pathogen inactivation and particle dissolution, respectively. However, the two methods examined were not themselves sufficient but they need to combine with another treatment for the effective reuse of wastes.

Survival and Thermal Inactivation of Coliform Bacteria after the Heat Treatment at 143°F (유우원(乳牛源) 대장균군세균(大腸菌群細菌)의 치사열(致死熱)에 관한 연구)

  • Survival and thermal inactivation after heat treatment at $143^{\circ}F$ were observed among 27 strains of coliform bacteria isolated from dairy cattle. The results obtained were as follows. 1. The obvious differences in heat-sensitivity were observed among the strains tested. 2. No strain was found resistant to the heat treatment of $143^{\circ}F$ for 30 minutes. 3. A marked effect of density of coliform bacteria on the survival after the heat treatment was observed. As the density of coliform bacteria was increased, the rate of survival was increased markedly regardless of the length of heat treatment.

  • This study was performed to optimize the integrated thermal-alkali pre-treatment of flotation scum for the enhanced biodegradability. The optimum conditions of the integrated thermal-alkali pre-treatment were obtained using response surface methodology. The disintegration degree of carbohydrate (69.2%) and protein (57.3) were estimated under the optimum conditions. Although the optimum conditions were different, the disintegration degrees were similarly. A fermentative hydrogen batch test was conducted to evaluate the hydrogen production from scum with and/or without. The maximum hydrogen production from scum with pre-treatment was of 0.64 mol H2/mol hexoseadded, which about 1.4 times higher than without pre-treatment.

  • Thermal energy control is a important factor to control properties of large sized product in ingot-forging. Good control of thermal energy helps to increase characteristics and eliminate defects of large cast-forged part, such as large sized forged shell. We have studied about not only large size ring forging process and after heat treatment process by FEM simulation. Changes of temperature and microstructure for forged shell were predicted according to different heat treatment conditions. Therefore, we can choose the proper heat treatment condition by FEA. The sectional properties confirmed by practical experiment and evaluation have presented possibilities of process design by computational analysis.

  • Liquid ammonia treatment known as the most effective Wood plasticization method, was applied to two typical domestic species, Pinus densiflora, Castanea crenata. Small specimens of 30mm width, 300mm length and two thicknesses, 5 or 10mm, were used. For 5mm thick Specimens, Pinus densiflora was quite well plasticized iker 4 hour liquid ammonia treatment, while Castanea crenata was not plasticized even after 4 hour treatment. Specimens of 10mm thick Pinus densiflora were hardly plasticized, but those with kerfs were bent somewhat easily, With the increase of liquid ammonia treatment time the thermal conductivity of Pinus densiflora increased, while that of Castanea crenata didn't Presteaming before liquid ammonia treatment didn't improve the plasticization of both species.

  • Objective : The aim of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of Korean Medicine treatment on post-hysterectomy syndrome patients by thermographic change during treatment. Methods : 5 female patients who had a hysterectomy within a year were treated with Korean Medicine concluding acupuncture, herbal medicine, cupping therapy, herbal bath. We evaluated the thermographic differences by checking Digital Infrared Thermal Imaging(D.I.T.I.) at CV17(膻中), CV4(關元), ST3(巨髎), BL15(心兪), and BL23(腎兪). Results : In consequence of Korean Medicine Treatment for 3 weeks, thermographic differences between CV17(膻中) and CV4(關元), ST3(巨髎) and CV4(關元), BL15(心兪), and BL23(腎兪) tended to decrease. Conclusion : After Korean Medicine treatment, thermographic differences between upper body and lower body tended to decrease cause shangrexiahanzheng(上熱下寒證) made by hysterectomy became moderated.

  • Controlled nitriding is a technology that controls the nitriding potential based on the gas partial pressure received through an IOT-based sensor. Controlled nitriding is characterized by easy control of the phase of the nitride compound and excellent reproducibility of quality. In particular, it is possible to form a compound layer of excellent quality with fewer pores on the surface. However, despite these advantages, the application of controlled nitriding still needs to be improved in Korea. This paper explains the characteristics of controlled nitriding and describes the future direction and the problems of controlled nitriding in Korea.

Effects of thermal treatment on structural and electrical properties of DLC films deposited by FCVA method (FCVA 방법으로 증착된 DLC 박막의 열처리에 따른 구조적, 전기적 물성 분석)

  • Effects at thermal treatment on the structural and electrical properties at DLC films have been studied. The DLC films were deposited by using a modified FCVA system as a function at negative substrate bias voltage, deposition time, and nitrogen flow rate. The thermal treatment on DLC films could be achieved by performing the RTA process at $600^{\circ}C$, 2min. Structural investigation on the thermal treatment effect was evaluated by inspecting the Raman spectroscopy, XPS, AFM, and internal compressive stress. In addition, the electrical properties of DLC films were evaluated by using the high current source and Lab-View data acquisition system. As the result at RTA treatment, $sp^3/sp^2$ ratio and internal compressive stress of the DLC films were decreased tram 5% to 22% and from 1GPa to 3GPa, and the $I_D/I_G$ intensity ratios was increased from 0.19 to 0.35. It was also found that the variation of internal stress of DLC films strongly agree with the variation of $sp^3/sp^2$ fraction and $I_D/I_G$ intensity ratio.

Alteration in Infrared Thermal Imaging by Use of Acupuncture-like Electric Stimulation on Finger Control Gate (체열촬영으로 관찰한 전기수지자극의 효과)

  • Acupuncture-like transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation(ALTENS) on acupuncture site(dorsal and ventral side of finger) were compared with a placebo site(forearm) by infrared thermal imaging. Six disease-free volunteers underwent, on different days, an ALTENS treatment and a placebo treatment in a cross-over sequences of stimulation control and inhibition control in excess of 50 treatments. ALTENS treatments were given at 30Hz at an intensity just below pain threshold delivered to acupuncture points on fingers. Placebo stimulations were administered in similar manner. After every thirty minutes of ALTENS and placebo treatment with stimulation, inhibition control sequence and vice versa, we examined whole body infrared thermal imaging and checked changed skin temperature on frontal, anterior chest, upper and lower abdomen, dorsal and ventral aspect of hand, thoracic and lumbar area, anterior and posterior aspect of lower leg. There were significant skin temperature elevations with ALTENS treatment, especially finger control gate corresponding organ area. Placebo treatment revealed no skin temperature change. We concluded that ALTENS on finger control gate influence physiologic state as opposed to conventional electric stimulation.

Effects of Ultrasonic Cleaning and Chemical Pre-treatment on the Characteristics of Fast-stabilized Rayon Fabrics (빠르게 안정화된 레이온직물의 특성에 미치는 초음파세척 및 화학전처리 영향)

  • In the present study, stabilized rayon fabrics were prepared from fast isothermal stabilization processes, which were carried out within four minutes at $350^{\circ}C$. The effects of ultrasonic cleaning and chemical pre-treatment on the chemical composition, physical characteristics, X-ray diffraction pattern, thermal stability and shape of the stabilized rayon fabrics were investigated extensively. In order to reduce the weight loss and thermal shrinkage of rayon fabrics occurring during the stabilization process, ultrasonic cleaning was first conducted and then chemical pre-treatments using $NH_4Cl$, $Na_3PO_4$, $H_3PO_4$, and $ZnCl_2$ were performed, respectively. The results indicated that both ultrasonic cleaning and chemical pre-treatment influenced the weight loss, thermal shrinkage, microstructure, carbon content, thermal stability and fabric shape of stabilized rayon fabrics. Also the results depended on the fast-stabilization time and the type of chemical pre-treatment agents used.
