Effect of Spraying Distance on Properties of $B_4C$ Coating

  • Boron carbide coating has some very attractive properties for nuclear and semiconductor industry. The potential of atmosheric plasma spray as manufacturing methods for $B_4C$ coating was discussed. In this work, the boron carbide coating with low porosity, high microhardness and good life of thermal shock resistance was deposited by the control of spraying distance. The relationship between the properties of $B_4C$ coatings and their spraying distance was studied.

초장축 스테인레스/복합재료 파이프의 피팅 공정 개발 (Development of Fitting Process for Extra Long Stainless/Composite Material Pipes)

  • Rubbing-roller is used for manufacturing liquid crystal display, and static displacement of the rubbing-roller becomes bigger as length of the rubbing roller made of aluminum is getting longer. Therefore, material of the rubbing-roller is changed from aluminum to CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced plastic). Recently thermal spraying is applied to manufacturing process of long rubbing-roller. The thermal spraying has disadvantages such as increment of manufacturing time and fraction defective caused by density of stainless steel particle. In this study, fitting process by drawing was suggested and FEM analysis with Tsai-Wu failure theory and fitting experiments are carried out to find adequate shrink allowance. The suggested shrink allowance gives proper adhesive force, and CFRP failure is not occurred. Furthermore, the fitting process is applied to long rubbing-roller and availability of the fitting process is studied by measurement of roundness, straightness and shear strength.

  • Cold spraying is a fairly new coating technique, which within the last decade attracted serious attention of research groups and spray companies. As compared to thermal spraying, the low process temperatures in cold spraying result in unique coating properties, which promise new applications. Since particles impact with high kinetic energy in the solid state, new concepts to describe coating formation are requested to enable the full potential of this new technology. The present contribution gives a brief review of current models concerning bonding, supplying a description of the most influential spray parameters and consequences for new developments. With respect to spray forming by cold cold spraying, microstructures and thick, further machineable structures are presented.

농약 방제 작업자의 작업 환경 및 노동 부담 평가 (Evaluation of the thermal environments and the workload of farmers during the spraying pesticide in the rice field)

  • To evaluate the thermal environments and the workload of farmers in the rice field in summer, this study investigated rice farmers' physiological, psychological responses, work postures, work clothes, air temperature and air humidity during the spraying pesticide in the rice field. Five career farmers (3 males, 2 females) volunteered as the subjects. During the spraying pesticide in the rice field, physiological responses were monitored continuously. The results were as follows. l. Farmers wore only raincoats not pesticide-proof clothing. 2. The value of WBGT, rectal temperature($T_{re}$), mean skin temperature(${\={T}}_{sk}$) were $24.9∼28.9^{\circ}C,\;37.8({\pm}0.3)^{\circ}C\;and\;33.6({\pm}0.6)^{\circ}C$, respectively. Clothing microclimate temperature($T_{cl}$) on the chest and back were $32.5({\pm}2.6)^{\circ}C\;and\;33.6({\pm}2.6)^{\circ}C$, respectively(p<0.00l). Humidity inside of the clothing ($H_{cl}$) was over 80%RH and heart rate(HR) was 112(${\pm}27$)bpm. We evaluated that the spraying pesticide was 'heavy work' by the Tre and HR. To four subjective questionnaires, all farmers expressed 'hard, hot, humid and uncomfortable' without individual difference at the end of works. We suggested that 1) the spraying pesticide in the rice field was a heavy work, 2) because the workload of farmers in the raincoat/pesticide-proof clothing can't be evaluated by only WBGT, assessors should measure physiological, psychological responses as well as thermal environments, 3) to alleviate farmers' heat strain, clothing manufacturers must consider not only the improvement of textile materials and clothing weight but also the designing of personal cooling equipment.

  • This study was investigated absorption properties of electromagnetic wave in thermal sprayed Sr-ferrite coatings. The experiment of this study was ; manufactured thermal spraying powder for improving absorption-efficiency, processed for increasing strength of thermal spray coatings, and measured the electromagnetic wave shielding efficiency. This study was obtained excellent absorption-efficiency by thermal sprayed Sr-ferrite coatings.

  • [ $Ti(Al,\;O)-Al_2O_3$ ] composite powders were produced by high energy mechanical milling of a mixture of Al and $TiO_2$ powders followed by a combustion reaction. The powders were subsequently thermally sprayed on H13 steel substrates. Microstructural examination was conducted on the composite powders and thermally sprayed coatings, using X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The performance of the coatings was evaluated in terms of micro-hardness and thermal fatigue. The thermally sprayed coatings performed very well in the preliminary thermal fatigue tests and showed no wetting tendency to molten aluminum.

Plasma 용사된 MgO 안정화 지르코니아 단열피복의 기공도와 경도에 미치는 용사조건의 영향 (Effects of Spraying Conditions on the Porosity and Hardness of Plasma Sprayed MgO Stabilized Zirconic Thermal Barrier Coatings)

  • Plasma 용사된 단열피복에 내재하는 기공의 크기, 형상 및 분포는 피복층 자체의 물성에 지대한 영향을 미치므로 이를 용사변수에 따라 조사하였다. MgO 안정화 지르코니아 피복시 도입되는 기공은 미세기공 외에 각각 생성기구가 다른 조대한 기공 즉 구형과 불규칙한 기공, 그리고 crack으로 구성되었다. 용사거리에 따라 기공의 생성과정과 특성이 변하였으며 Plasma 전류 및 가스 유량의 증가에 의해서 기공도는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. Plasma 가스가 $N_2$인 경우가 Ar보다 더 높은기공도를 보였고 전체적으로 단열피복의 기공도는 10~18%였다. Scratch test로 측정된 단열피복층의 상대적인 경도는 기공도와 높은 상관관계를 보였다.

  • A traditional notion of composites has been composed as a uniform dispersoid, but now it is proposed without regard to such rule with process development. Functionally Graded Material(FGM) consists of a new material design that is to make intentionally irregular dispersion state. In this study, thermal stress analysis of plasma spraying PSZ/NiCrAlY gradient material was conducted theoretically using a finite-element program. A formations of the model are direct bonding material(NFGM) and FGM with PSZ and NiCrAlY component element. The temperature conditions were $700^{\circ}C$ to 1100.deg. C assuming a cooling-down precess up to room temperature. Fracture damage mechanism was analyzed by the parameters of residual stress.

  • This study is concerned with the thermal analysis during the cool-down period of 135,000 $m^3$ class GT-96 membrane type LNG carrier under IMO design condition. The cool-down is performed to cool the insulation wall and the natural gas in cargo tank for six hours to avoid the thermal shock at the start of loading of $-163^{\circ}C$ LNG. During the cool-down period, the spraying rate for the NG cooling decreases as the temperature of NG falls clown from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $-130^{\circ}C$ and the spraying rate for the insulation wall cooling increases as the temperature gradient of the insulation wall is large. It was confirmed that there existed the largest temperature decrease at the 1 st barrier and 1st insulation, which are among the insulation wall, especially in the top side of the insulation wall. By the 3-D numerical calculation about the cargo tank and the cofferdam during the cool-down period, the temperature variation in hulls and insulations is precisely predicted.
