An Experimental Study on the NOx Formation of Fuel Staged Combustor (연료다단 연소기의 NOx 발생특성에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • The characteristics of NOx emission in multi fuel/air staged combustor have been experimentally studied. The design concept of multi fuel/air staged combustor is creation of two separate flame, a primary flame is act as a pilot flame for the secondary combustion stage combustion zone, where most of fuel burns. Experiments were performed on a semi-industrial scale (thermal input 0.233 ㎿) in a laboratory furnace and Liquefied Petroleum Gas(LPG) was used as primary and secondary fuels. The study included parametric study to identify the optimum operating conditions which are primary/secondary fuel ratio, primary/secondary air ratio, primary swirl intensity and secondary swirl intensity for reducing NOx emission. The test demonstrated that NOx emission can be reduced by >70% in accordance with operating conditions.

  • This work is the experimental study for NO and NOx removal by utilizing non-thermal plasma. To apply to moving pollution source such as diesel automobile, we suggested the metal packed-helical wire reactor(MPHW) and measured properties of MPHW by varying the peak voltage, frequency, NOx concentration and flow rate for simulated NOx gas balanced with $N_2$. And then we compared these results with the results of cylinder-wire(CW) which was one of popularly used reactor in nonthermal plasma applications. The results of MPHW show fairly good NO and NOx removal rate compare with CW around above 20%. However. the power consumption of MPHW is larger than that of CW as much as around 2.5Watt in all range.

  • Various technologies for the reduction of atmospheric pollution have been developed. One of which is to inject fine-water droplets directly on the flame. This way decreases the formation of thermal NOx due to the temperature drop during evaporation of droplets. There is another effect of reducing prompt NOx, which is resulted from delay of response time and the flow of droplets. In this experiment, it has been investigated the effects of changes of water droplets size and flow rate on temperature and formations of NOx at the counterflow diffusion flame.

  • The NOx production and combustion characteristics are experimentally compared with an offset with counter-orifice configuration. The offset-opposed impinging flame creates stronger vortex around the stagnation point than the opposed flame. The thermal and mass mixtures be improved and the delay of turbulence dissipation be occurred by the strong vortex. In result, the turbulent flame structure transferred from the wrinkled flame and the corrugated flame to the distributed reaction flame. It was found that the offset-opposed impinging flame decreased more NOx and improved the combustion efficiency than the opposed flame. The principal objective of this study is to develop the low NOx combustor by distributed reaction flame.

  • In this paper we have investigated the removal characteristics of NOx by pulsed corona discharge with a multi-pointplane electrode where a magnetic field is applied in the discharge region. The efficiency of NOx removal was measured and analyzed as a function of pulse frequency gas flow rate NOx initial concentration magnetic flux density. In this result the highest removal efficiency of NOx was obtained at the following operating conditions; the frequency =400[Hz] gas flow =1[$\ell$/min] initial concentration= 400[ppm] and magnetic flux density=0.36[T].

  • The removal characteristics of nitrogen oxides (NOx) by the dielectric ($Al_2O_3$) packed-bed plasma reactor are experimentally investigated Reactor is packed with 5[mm] diameter $Al_2O_3$ beads, and was desisted to remove NOx at atmospheric pressures from the moving pollution source such as diesel automobile. The experiments were conducted for applied voltages from 5 to 10[kV], flue gas rate from 2 to 5[l/min] and frequency from 0.5 to 2[kHz]. The NOx removal efficiency significantly increasing with increasing applied voltage. Especially removal rate significantly increased with increasing frequency. However, in this experiment discharged poler n relatively high.

  • The NOx emission characteristics of jet flames fueled with It was studied. Experimental and numerical investigations were carried out for various flames with varying equivalence ratio, fuel flow rate and nozzle diameter. The Emission indices of NOx(EINOx) were measured by chemiluminescent method and calculated by simulation using detailed chemistry. The results show that the numerical results represent well the trends of EINOx experimentally observed. EINOx of H$_2$ flame steeply increase at small equivalence ratio, gently increase and steady at more than equivalence ratio is 4.0. EINOx trends of H$_2$ flame can be describe in function of residence time in the high-temperature region weighted by the maximum flame temperature.
