Purpose: This study aimed to examine factors influencing health-related quality of life (HRQOL) and compare them between young-aged and old-aged patients with cancer. Methods: Data of 291 patients (young-aged: 168, old-aged: 123) were obtained from the 10th wave of the 2015 Korea Health Panel Survey. The HRQOL was measured using the Korean version of Euro-QoL-5D. Independent t-test, analysis of variance, and multiple regression analysis were performed to identify factors influencing HRQOL. Results: The average HRQOL score was 0.87±0.10 and 0.82±0.15 among young-aged and old-aged, respectively. The factors differed partially between the two groups. For young-aged, the influencing factors were activity restriction, subjectively perceived health status, and smoking. For old-aged, the influencing factors were activity restriction, subjective health status, and unmet healthcare needs. Conclusion: Strategies to improve the HRQOL of elderly adults need to be developed considering the age group. Additionally, studies that include clinical factors such as symptoms are required to prepare need-based practical approaches for better quality of life of such patients.
Purpose: It can be said that the aged belong to the group vulnerable to safety accidents. The purpose of this study was to investigate safety accidents to old people and provide basic data to prevent them from being in a safety accident. Result : 1. The number of the aged of traffic accident fatalities per 100,000 persons was 57.8, which was significantly higher than other OECD countries. 2. trauma for the aged, falling accounted for 60.6%, which was relatively higher than other wounds, probably because of decreased capacity of movement and reduced faculty of sensation. 3. accidents to the aged at home, 43.9% occurred in a room, which shows great risk of safety accidents to the aged in a room. 4. the aged generally showed negative awareness of social safety. Suggestion : 1. it is necessary to provide regular education about accidents through the mass media and at social welfare facilities in order for aged people to consolidate safety consciousness repeatedly. 2. it is necessary to make a brief and clear guide to prevention of accidents. 3. the Ministry of Construction and Transportation and the Ministry of Health and Welfare should give priority to designing a building for aged people and authorize construction according to the standards for establishing safety facilities for the aged. 4. it is necessary to change social consciousness. since transportation accidents can be caused not by aged people's insufficient safety consciousness but by that of all the people, it is necessary to provide society-wide education programs against dangerous driving in order to guarantee aged people's safety. 5. legal procedure to secure aged people's safety should be strengthened to reinforce legal protection for them.
The quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of Yanggeng prepared with different amounts of fermented and aged garlic paste(0, 10, 20 or 30%) were determined. The pH of fermented and aged garlic Yanggeng decreased according to the amount of added fermented and aged garlic paste, whereas the acidity increased. In addition, the lightness of fermented and aged garlic Yanggeng decreased according to the amount of added fermented and aged garlic paste. In the texture analysis, hardness, cohesiveness and springiness of fermented and aged garlic Yanggeng were lower than those of the control. Total phenol content was highest in 30 % fermented and aged garlic Yanggeng. The antioxidant activities of fermented and aged garlic Yanggeng increased according to the amount of added fermented and aged garlic paste. The IC50 value of 30% fermented and aged garlic Yanggeng was 45.1 mg/g for DPPH and 29.6 mg/g for hydroxyl radical. The results of the sensory test showed that Yanggeng with 20% fermented and aged garlic paste had the highest score in appearance, overall preference and texture. Based on these results, it was suggested that the addition of 20% fermented and aged garlic to Yanggeng was appropriate for good food qualities both in terms of the physicochemical and antioxidative activities.
