Focus Ion Beam을 이용한 탄소나노튜브 팁의 조작 (Using Focus Ion Beam Carbon Nanotube Tip Manipulation)

  • This paper reports on the development of a scanning probe microscopy(SPM) tip with caborn nanotubes. We used an electric field which causes dielectrophoresis(DEP), to align and deposit CNTs on a metal-coated SPM tip. Using the CNT attached SPM tip, we have obtained an enhanced resolution and wear property compared to that from the bare silicon tip through the scanning of the surface of the bio materials. The carbon nanotube tip align toward the source of the ion beam allowing their orientation to be changed at precise angles. By this technique, metal coated carbon nanotube tips that are several micrometer in length are prepared for scanning probe microscopy.

  • Recently, studies on orientation of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) dispersed in nematic liquid crystal (LC) and CNTs effects on electro-optic characteristics of the LC device have been performed. In this paper, we summarize interaction nature between CNT and LC, local distortion of the LC director field by motion of CNTs, and effects on electro-optic performances of LC device.

Effects of Dispersed Carbon nanotubes on Electro-Optic Characteristics and Orientation of Liquid Crystal in the In-Plane Switching Cell

  • To understand effects of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) dispersed in nematic liquid crystal (NLC) on electro-optic characteristic and orientation of the LC, we CNT-doped homogeneously-aligned NLC cells driven by in-plane field have been fabricated. The CNTs were aligned with a LC director from the initial state to below critical ac field, whereas the CNTs disturbed the LC director field above critical ac field. We observed motional textures in the form of vertical stripes in the local area between electrodes, which were associated with a deformation of the LC director orientation. This indicates that CNTs start vibrating three dimensionally with translational motion. Further, the hysterisis studies of voltage-dependent transmittance under dc electric field show that the amount of residual dc, which is related to image sticking problem in liquid crystal displays, is greatly reduced due to ion trapping by CNTS while keeping operating voltage and response time about the same compared to the un-doped LC cell.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of the CO-OP program using cognitive strategy on the satisfaction and high-level cognitive function of chronic stroke patients with cognitive impairment with the existing task-oriented approach training method. Method: The group randomly selects the experimental group and control group from 30 patients who suffer cognitive damage due to brain damage, and then randomly presents the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupative Performance (CO-OP) Results: The results of the study showed a significant increase in patient performance and satisfaction, task performance, and high-level cognitive functions in comparison to those before training (p<).05) There was no significant difference in CNT testing in controls; Although there were no significant differences in overall CNT testing between the two groups, the COPM, AMPS tests showed a significant increase in the experimental group compared to the comparators (p <.05). Conclusion: The Cognitive Orientation to Daily Occupative Performance (CO-OP) Intervention Act, which uses meta-in strategies, was previously used. We were able to confirm that it could be a more effective intervention in task performance and high-level cognitive function than in the Meaningful Task-Specific Training Program (MTST).

Characterization of Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes Synthesized by Water-assisted Catalytic Chemical Vapor Deposition

  • The influence of the water vapor on the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was investigated. SWCNTs were synthesized by catalytic chemical vapor deposition of acetylene over Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst with injection of water vapor. The morphologies and structures of the water-assisted SWCNTs were investigated according to the growth conditions such as water vapor concentrations, flow rate of the gas, furnace temperature, and growth time. Water-assisted SWCNTs exhibited large bundle morphological features with well-alignment of each CNT, while SWCNTs synthesized in the absence of water vapor showed entangled CNT with the random orientation. We also found that the diameter of the SWCNT bundle could be controlled by the growth condition. In our optimal growth condition, the product yield and the purity were 300 wt. % and 75%, which were 7.5 and 2.5 times higher than those of SWCNTs synthesized without water vapor, respectively.   • 탄소나노튜브는 이론적인 기계적, 전기적 물성이 우수함에도 불구하고 아직까지 그 수준에 도달하고 있지 않다. 특히나 인장 강도는 10% 미만의 수준 정도에 그치고 있어 이를 보안하기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 기계적 강도를 향상하기 위한 방법으로는 긴 탄소나노튜브의 합성, 배향 외에 화학적 가교, 수소결합, 고분자 함침 등의 방법이 연구되고 있다. 본 총설 논문에서는 탄소소재의 전구체인 폴리아크릴로니트릴(PAN), 폴리도파민(PDA)을 탄소나노튜브 섬유에 코팅 또는 함침하여 탄화 공정을 거쳐 고강도 고전도성 탄소나노튜브 섬유/탄소 복합소재를 제조하는 연구를 소개하고자 한다.

On vibrations of functionally graded carbon nanotube (FGCNT) nanoplates under moving load

  • This article develops a nonclassical size dependent nanoplate model to study the dynamic response of functionally graded carbon nanotube (FGCNT) nanoplates under a moving load. Both nonlocal and microstructure effects are incorporated through the nonlocal strain gradient elasticity theory. To investigate the effect of reinforcement orientation of CNT, four different configurations are studied and analysed. The FGM gradation thorough the thickness direction is simulated using the power law. In the context of the first order shear deformation theory, the dynamic equations of motion and the associated boundary conditions are derived by Hamilton's principle. An analytical solution of the dynamic equations of motion is derived based on the Navier methodology. The proposed model is verified and compared with the available results in the literature and good agreement is found. The numerical results show that the dynamic performance of FGCNT nanoplates could be governed by the reinforcement pattern and volume fraction in addition to the non-classical parameters and the moving load dimensionless parameter. Obtained results are reassuring in design and analysis of nanoplates reinforced with CNTs.

  • Carbon nanotubes are attractive nano-structured materials because of their remarkable electronic, physical, chemical properties. Due to these reasons, application researches of CNTs are actively processed on the display, the electronic element, the nano-diode fields and the semiconductor element. Today, The major issue of semiconductor technique are via and interconnects. CNTs are used to make via and interconnects because of high electric currents density and high heat transfer. Control of the orientation of grown CNTs is very important thing for making via and interconnects. Via are horizontal growth of CNTs and interconnects are vertical growth of CNTs. This research is based on the experiment using control of gas flow directions and DC bias. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was used to check this experiment.

Modeling of an embedded carbon nanotube based composite strain sensor

  • Carbon nanotube strain sensors, or so called "fuzzy fiber" sensors have not yet been studied sufficiently. These sensors are composed of a bundle of fiberglass fibers coated with CNT through a thermal chemical vapor deposition process. The characteristics of these fuzzy fiber sensors differ from a conventional nanocomposite in that the CNTs are anchored to a substrate fiber and the CNTs have a preferential orientation due to this bonding to the substrate fiber. A numerical model was constructed to predict the strain response of a composite with embedded fuzzy fiber sensors in order to compare result with the experimental results obtained in an earlier study. A comparison of the numerical and experimental responses was conducted based on this work. The longitudinal sensor output from the model matches nearly perfectly with the experimental results. The transverse and off-axis tests follow the correct trends; however the magnitude of the output does not match well with the experimental data. An explanation of the disparity is proposed based on microstructural interactions between individual nanotubes within the sensor.
