Turbocharger bearings are under the circumstance of high temperature, moreover rotated at high speed. It is necessary to be designed overcoming the high temperature. So the type of oil inlet port, the inlet oil temperature and the sort of engine oil should be designed, controlled and selected carefully in order to reduce the bearing inside temperature. In this study, the influence of aerated oil on a high-speed journal bearing is also examined by using the classical thermohydrodynamic lubrication theory coupled with analytical models for viscosity and density of air-oil mixture in fluid-film bearing. Convection to the walls and mixing with supply oil and re-circulating oil are considered. The considered parameters for the study of bubbly lubrication are oil inlet port's type, oil aeration level and shaft speed. It is found that the type of oil inlet ports and shaft speed play important roles in determining the temperature and pressure, then the friction and load of journal bearing at high speed operation. Also, the results show that, under extremely high shaft speed, the high shear effects on aerated oil and the high temperature effects are canceled out each other. So, the bearing load and friction show almost no difference between the aerated oil and pure oil.

The purpose of this study is to develop an engine oil quality monitoring system to warn the abnormal condition of engine oil. To do this, first of all, it is needed a personal controller development to measure the capacitance of a pre-developed engine oil deterioration detection sensor integrated with an oil filter. To measure the capacitance of engine oil in the sensor, it is used the way measuring the electric charging time in a capacitor by impressing DC volt. This method has merits on cost and signal stability. The measured capacitance is compensated by comparing with the one measured by an impedance analyzer. Also, using the dielectric constant gained by an impedance analyzer, the calculating equation of the dielectric constant of engine oil related with the currently developed sensor is decided. Then, the deterioration degree of engine oil is estimated according to the change rate of dielectric constant between green oil and used oil. Finally, using this dielectric constant information together with engine oil temperature and pressure, the currently developed engine oil quality monitoring system is to tell the abnormal state of engine oil.
In the past two decades, due to the rapid fluctuations in the oil supply and demand in Northeast Asia as well as a surge in oil prices in the early 2000s, Korea has been developing the Northeast Asia Oil Hub project as a national project. This project was promoted based on the policy consideration that the nation's energy security and regional development can be promoted by establishing an oil hub in Northeast Asia that can eventually replace Singapore as East Asia's oil logistics hub. Following the construction of a large-scale oil storage facility in Yeosu in 2013, the main project in Ulsan has suffered many difficulties due to environmental changes such as the supply and demand of oil and political factors. The survey, which investigated the performance, problems, and prospects of the oil hub project, illustrates that scores of all sectors are of average level. In terms of performance and prospects, policies such as facility investment, law, and system improvement were determined to be rather high while operational areas such as value-added activities, profitability, and marketing activities were perceived as having more serious problems by respondents. In conclusion, despite the strong potential of Korea's oil hub based on its geographical location, facilities, and oil product capacity, there are problems related to policies, institutions, and investment. In the future, the oil hub business should be reviewed by considering environmental factors, and a drastic improvement plan for attracting foreign investors and oil traders should be established.
The present study was carried out in normocholesterolemic New Zealand white(NZW) rabbit, to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation with Korean pinenut oil, on plasma lipids, plasma lipoproteins, liver lipids and platelet aggregation. NZW rabbits were fed for 80 days on a commercial chow diet supplemented with 5% of energy as fats(soybean oil or pinenut oil) or 10% of energy as fats(soybean oil or pinenut oil). A control group was fed a commercial stock diet. There were no significant effects of pinenut oil on plasma free cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, glucose and lecithin-cholesterol acyltransferase, as compared with those obtained from rabbits fed the soybean oil diet. After 80 days, the concentration of plasma free fatty acid in only the pinenut oil group was significantly decreased by about 50% relative to the control diet. At the end of the dietary treatment, liver triglycerides and phospholipids were significantly decreased in the pinenut oil group, compared to the how diet, whereas the soybean oil-consuming rabbits had only significantly decreased phospholipid levels. Cholesterol contents of liver were unaffected by type of dietary fat. At the end of 80 days, a diet containing pinenut oil resulted in a decrease in apolipoprotein B and the apo B/apo AI ratio as compared with the stock diet or soybean oil diet. Platelet aggregation induced by collagen or arachidonic acid was depressed significantily in pinenut oil diet.

The effects of improved rice bran oil on the characteristics of exhaust emissions have been experimentally examined by a single cylinder, four cycle, direct injection, water-cooled and agricultural diesel engine operating at several loads and speeds. The experiments are conducted with light oil rice bran oil, and improved rice bran oil as a fuel. The fuel injection timing is fixed to 22$^{\circ}$BTDC regardless of fuel type, engine loads and speeds. To reduce the viscosity of rice bran oil, it is used with the methods of heating, methyl ester and ultrasonic system in a highly viscous rice bran oil. In this study, it is found that the brake specific fuel consumption rate of light oil is the lowest and that of improved rice bran oil is lower than that of pure rice bran oil, and NOx emissions of light oil are the lowest and those of pure rice bran oil are the highest, but soot emissions of light oil are the highest. However these results are not amply satisfied with the emissions regulation limit using the pure and improved rice bran oil as a fuel in diesel engines.
This study aims to propose the concept design of oil spill protection robot which can rapidly intervene to control the oil spillage situation at the sea. Taking into account the fact that a huge amount of oil is transported trans-continentally by oil tanker, none of industrialized countries are completely safe from the marine oil spill which results in social, economical and ecological damages to their communities. The employment of double hull-oil tanker, pipe line transporting can be most safe way. Yet complete prevention of oil spill is probably not realistic. Accordingly the alternative solution to control marine oil spill and minimize the damages caused by the incident using intelligent robot technology based on swarm control method is proposed. The main features of oil spill protection(OSP) robot is explained via following three perspectives. Firstly, from functional point of view, OSP robot system safely and efficiently replaces oil boom installation manually conducted by human workers with intelligent robot technology based on swarm control theory. For second, its modular architecture brings efficient storage of main components including oil boom and facilitates maintenance. For the last, its geometric form and shape enables whole system to be installed to helicopter, boat or oil tanker itself with ease and to rapidly deploy the units to the oil spill area.
The phenomena of oil whip in steam turbine takes place for the un-balancing force between rotor shaft and bearing oil film. The several parameters that affect onset of oil whip have been well known. However, the major parameter of oil whip is shaft mis-alinement. A oil whip causes the high vibration and the shutdown of rotor system. We mostly stop the steam turbine to adjust a shaft re-alinement concerning oil whip. In this case, It needs many costs for maintenance and long shutdown times. In this study, we study and observe the oil whip of the 300MW steam turbine in many years and we conduct the field test for another steam turbine for reducing vibration from oil whip. The results of this study are that a oil whip takes place with a particular rotating speed or a particular turbine output and the oil temperature change is a very effective method for on-line oil whip treatment.

The internal state of an automotive engine is very severe. A piston exposes burnt gas of over $2000^{\circ}$ nd is shocked by high pressure at the time of explosion. Furthermore strong friction is caused by high speed motion. A study on the cooling of the piston requires because the cooling and lubrication of the piston has an effect on the life and efficiency of engine directly. The previous system of oil jet cooled only the bottom of the piston. In order to improve the cooling efficiency, the oil gallery is made inside the piston, and oil flows into the oil gallery. The flow rate of oil at the entrance of oil gallery is important because of the cooling efficiency. The purpose of this study is the investigation of fluid flow characteristics of oil jet and flow rate into the oil gallery.

When turbochargers are applied to engines, the temperature of the engine becomes high, making the cooling of pistons very important. To solve this problem, an oil jet is used. The oil jet provides oil to the underside of piston for cooling. When an oil jet is used, oil pump size-up and oil cooler are needed because of the increased oil flow rate and higher oil temperature. On the other hand, these increase the friction torque of the engine. This study examined how much the friction torque of an engine increases by an oil jet, oil cooler, and oil pump size-up. In addition, the proportions of the friction torque of the engine increased by each part were measured by changing the engine assembly condition. At low speed, the oil pump and oil cooler had a larger effect on the friction torque than the other factors. At high speed, oil cooler had a larger effect than the other factors.
