  • The essay explores the narrative structure of the classical Chinese feature animation, (a.k.a. Da Nao Tian Gong, 1964). The film is presented with a modular structure which is quite unique compared with the storytelling in feature animated films from other cultures, but could be connected with the tradition narrative structure in Chinese Zhanghui style novels in Ming and Qing Dynasty. By relating the original text of the story, the 16th century novel Journey to the West (a.k.a. Xi You Ji), with the film , the essay addresses the question of how the narrative tradition in Chinese classical literature influenced the Uproar in Heave for its segment narrative structure, character driven storytelling strategy and mirrored repetitive 2 plot lines.   • This study analyzed the effective message strategy for the TB prevention campaign. This study examined the differences in the perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, and behavior intention according to the message orientation(individual-social) and the message presentation style(statistical-narrative). The results showed that individual message is more effective than social message in terms of perceived susceptibility and perceived severity. There was no significant difference between statistical and narrative messages. Finally, in the case of individual message, narrative messages were more effective than statistical messages; and in the case of social message, social messages were more effective than narrative messages. Based on these results, theoretical implications were discussed and a practical strategy for TB prevention campaign were proposed.

Storytelling and Social Networking: Why Luxury Brand Needs to Tell Its Story

  • Recently, luxury brands are selling their products to consumers using their own direct online channels. In the online channel, marketing strategy through storytelling is needed because consumers do not have enough product experience. Therefore, luxury brands are actively utilizing social media and delivering stories includes their birth and growth. Unlike mass media, social media communicates with consumers more quickly and frequently and delivers the story of brand naturally. This study classifies luxury brands into four groups based on story recognition of luxury brands and self-esteem, and analyzes and materializes each group of the propensities of luxury brand consumption. It also tries to draw strategic implications for effective SNS advertising by analyzing narrative transportation on SNS advertising, interests in videos, and the interests in story based on these typified groups of luxury consumption. The result of the analysis shows that there is a difference in consumption propensity among consumers who were classified into four groups according to story cognition of luxury brands and self-esteem. There is also a difference in the response to narrative images through SNSs, such as narrative transportation, interests in videos, and interests in brand stories.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of the fashion narrative from the commercial and artistic viewpoints by identifying and evaluating the attributes of the fashion narrative and analyzing the fashion narrative focusing on various cases according to fashion media. Louis Vuitton, a brand of the Louis Vuitton $Mo{\ddot{e}}t$ Hennessy (LVMH) group that operates the entire fashion community platform, is recognized as an influential luxury company with enormous capital and capabilities. This study targeted Louis Vuitton to examine the fashion narrative. The common results of Louis Vuitton's fashion narrative according to the communication platform are as follows. First, it emphasizes well-designed craftsmanship and artistry to convey the value and meaning of the brand. Second, it expresses the lifestyle of the bourgeoisie using traveling for finding life purpose, nature, and freedom as common denominators. Louis Vuitton connects, shares, and engages with customers by crossing the communication platform and trying multi-sensory changes based on the fashion narrative of the 'artification' message encompassing craftsmanship, innovation, and travel. The fashion narrative of Louis Vuitton applies tools (e.g., design, direction, stage, and props) differently according to the nature of media. In other words, the fashion narrative in the form of transmedia storytelling is a marketing communication strategy that indicates the representation means and direction of a brand's goals by remediating the brand narrative in various ways through the communication platform.

  • Despite the fact that culture and the industrial market is growing rapidly and becoming competitive, Disney animation studio has kept its reputation. They have their own know-how accumulated for a long time to stimulate the audience's sensibilities beyond time and space. This study is looking for the strategy of Disney animation using effects and forms of Hero's narrative. As a result, the original works have been adapted by 3 spaces of hero's narrative and songs was prepared according to the journey. Characters was constructed by combining original and it made an antithetical Antagonist and the triangle of helpmates. These strategies satisfy contemporary needs, as well as Disney's ideology using transformational resilience. Research will be needed to utilize the elements of culture through the analysis of the common strategy for success in spite of the time change.

  • Narrative has broad domains. So it is related to the everything man faces in his daily life and also performed in various modes. Narrative is revealed through all media including a character, which is also applied to plastic art. And narrative objects formed beyond the differences in media aid forms of expression are commonly based on a language. The study on such objects which created a new conceit of narratology can be said to be a spiritual trend by which to understand the world and man from the viewpoint of a 'story'. Plastic art took high interest in narrative in the same period as the rise of postmodernist art in the latter half of the 20th century, which was also applied to sculpture. The researcher, therefore, investigated through the history of sculpture in the 20th century the process in which narrative was denied under the value system of modernism and reappeared with the quickening of postmodernism. And as a result this period could be briefly characterized by 'return to figure' and 'reappearance of narrative'. The is, such flow means that late sculpture converted its center of interest from simple geometric abstract forms to irregular, figurative images. The researcher chose as the subject of his study the work of Louise Bourgeois, who was judged to have performed narrative positively and successfully among a great number of performed narrative positively and successfully among a great number of postmodernist sculptors who adopted it as their own strategy of expression. As the central artist of postmodrnist sculpture, She expressed human desire and condition as sexuality through the introspection of her own personal experience in contrast to the character of pop art sensitive to external world. The researcher could more concretely and definitely understand the characteristics of narrative through figurative images by analyzing the sample work. The researcher wanted to call your attention to the fact that the sculpture in the late 20th century contained narrative commonly and uniformly despite being characterized by various expressions and modes. And the focused on highlighting the fact that the narrative was more effectively revealed through figurative images of human body and simultaneously analyzing the formalizing process and structure for narrative. Besides he wanted to argue that the position of narrative defining the characteristics of sculpture should be valued more justly. Also, such acceptance of narrative, which is discovered in the sculpture, will have to be understood as the characteristics of the period reflecting the cultural aspect of the present time.

  • The purpose of this paper is to explain the operation and meaning of the narrative, which is one of the main principles for the contents construction, especially focusing on the concepts 'difference' and 'desire'. The classical aesthetic taught us that the differences between diverse characters and reality models are the effective strategy for the reading the story. But this paper focuses on the structural difference of the event (story) and performance (discourse) of narrative, which are regarded as the basic condition of narrative. This difference is to describe in terms of the media theory and psychoanalysis. This paper also seeks to interpret the recent korean film to exemplify that the creation of difference for the fulfillment of desire is the basic element of the narrative constitution.

  • This paper attempts to analyze the narrative strategy of co-produced transnational romance films, (2007) and (2010). These films were produced during the heyday of Korean wave, the phenomenon Korean popular culture enjoys overseas fandom. Coupling Korean male star with Japanese female star, and dramatizing their romance, the industries attempted to attract the nations' cultural consumers. International co-production has been considered as a mode of production strategic enough to penetrate into neighboring nations. One of the major benefits of international co-production is to cope with 'cultural discount' between nations. Since producers and directors from different cultural background can participate in the creative process and share ideas, they can devise quite strategic form and content to please culturally heterogeneous consumers. Korea and Japan have long been in socio-political conflict, which makes it crucial for these films' cultural producers not to stir spectators' nationalism. In other words, these films' cultural producers had to develop a narrative strategy not to analogize nations' political reality. This paper, therefore, aims to analyze the narrative structure of these films, and to specify narrative strategy in detail.

  • The graphic novel is seemed different from comics in two aspects, visual expression and narrative value. However, they are ambiguous standards, so it needs to research each works of graphic novel deeper. Then this paper studied both of visual expression and narrative in Craig Thompson's "Habibi" that has been recognized a fine graphic novel. As the research about how the modes of expression that an American author choose on purpose to represent an arab female are related with narrative, it will get the point of narrative strategy that graphic novel can have potentially. So It studied new modes of expression as focusing on imagination of arab letters and woman growth-narrative by using Gayle Rubin's 'traffic in women' theory, and how it was related with modes of expression in graphic novel. This paper will be helpful for broadening spectrum of expression in graphic novel as comics media having own narrative form and studying graphic narrative potential.
