Evaluation of the Effect of Riser Support System on Global Spar Motion by Time-domain Nonlinear Hull/Mooring/Riser Coupled Analysis

  • The effect of vertical riser support system on the dynamic behaviour of a classical spar platform is investigated. Spar platform generally uses buoyancy-can riser support system, but as water depth gets deeper the alternative riser support system is required due to safety and cost issues. The alternative riser support system is to hang risers off the spar platform using pneumatic cylinders rather than the buoyancy-can. The existing numerical model for hull/mooring/riser coupled dynamics analysis treats riser as an elastic rod truncated at the keel (truncated riser model), thus, in this model, the effect of riser support system can not be modeled correctly. Due to this reason, the truncated riser model tends to overestimate the spar pitch and heave motion. To evaluate more realistic global spar motion, mechanical coupling among risers, guide frames and support cylinders inside of spar moon-pool should be modeled. In the newly developed model, the risers are extended through the moon-pool by using nonlinear finite element methods with realistic boundary condition at multiple guide frames. In the simulation, the vertical tension from pneumatic cylinders is modeled by using ideal-gas equation and the vertical tension from buoyancy-cans is modeled as constant top tension. The different dynamic characteristics between buoyancy-can riser support system and pneumatic riser support system are extensively studied. The alternative riser support system tends to increase spar heave motion and needs damper system to reduce the spar heave motion.

PNU CGCM V1.1을 이용한 12개월 앙상블 예측 시스템의 개발 (Development of 12-month Ensemble Prediction System Using PNU CGCM V1.1)

  • This study investigates a 12 month-lead predictability of PNU Coupled General Circulation Model (CGCM) V1.1 hindcast, for which an oceanic data assimilated initialization is used to generate ocean initial condition. The CGCM, a participant model of APEC Climate Center (APCC) long-lead multi-model ensemble system, has been initialized at each and every month and performed 12-month-lead hindcast for each month during 1980 to 2011. The 12-month-lead hindcast consisted of 2-5 ensembles and this study verified the ensemble averaged hindcast. As for the sea-surface temperature concerns, it remained high level of confidence especially over the tropical Pacific and the mid-latitude central Pacific with slight declining of temporal correlation coefficients (TCC) as lead month increased. The CGCM revealed trustworthy ENSO prediction skills in most of hindcasts, in particular. For atmospheric variables, like air temperature, precipitation, and geopotential height at 500hPa, reliable prediction results have been shown during entire lead time in most of domain, particularly over the equatorial region. Though the TCCs of hindcasted precipitation are lower than other variables, a skillful precipitation forecasts is also shown over highly variable regions such as ITCZ. This study also revealed that there are seasonal and regional dependencies on predictability for each variable and lead.

주변 공동을 고려한 터널의 동적거동에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Dynamic Behavior of Underground Tunnels with a Cavity)

  • 본 연구에서는 마제형터널 주변에 공동이 존재하는 경우에 대해 동적해석을 수행함으로써 터널주변의 공동이 터널의 동적거동에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 이를 위해 반무한 평면상에서 터널의 동적응답해석을 수행할 수 있는 해석기법을 개발하였다. 먼저 주파수 영역에서의 다층 반무한 지반내에서의 동적 기본해를 유도하였고 이를 경계요소에 적용하였다. 외부영역을 모형화한 경계요소를 내부영역의 유한요소와 조합하여 반무한 영역에서의 터널구조의 동적응답을 구할 수 있도록 하였다. 개발된 기법의 검증을 위하여 단층 및 다층 반무한 구조계에 대해 Ricker 파형을 이용한 동적해석을 수행하여 기존의 해석결과와 비교하였고, 개발된 기법을 이용하여 석회암층에 있는 터널에 대해 공동의 유무 및 터널과의 이격거리에 따른 터널의 동적거동을 고찰하였다.

Resonance and Response of the Submerged Dual Buoy/Porous-Membrane Breakwaters in Oblique Seas

  • The numerical investigation of obliquely incident wave interactions with fully submerged dual buoy/porous-membrane floating breakwaters placed in parallel with spacing is studied based on linear potential theory and Darcy's law. The numerical solutions are obtained by using a discrete-membrane dynamic model and second-kind modified Bessel function distribution over the entire boundaries of fluid regions. First, numerical solutions for an idealized dual submerged system without buoys are obtained. Second, a more practical dual submerged system with membrane tension provided by buoys at its tops is investigated by the multi-domain boundary element method particularly devised for dual buoy/porous-membrane problems with gaps. The velocity potentials of wave motion are coupled with porous-membrane deformation, and solved simultaneously since the boundary condition on porous-membrane is not known in advance. The effects of varying permeability on membranes and wave characteristics are discussed for the optimum design parameters of systems previously studied. The inclusion of permeability on membrane eliminates the resonances that aggravate the breakwater performance. The system is highly efficient when waves generated by the buoys and membranes were mutually canceled and its energy at resonance frequency dissipates through fine pores on membranes.

  • DEM(Digital Elevation Model) 크기의 변화에 따라 특정 지역에 많은 규격의 수문 데이터가 존재할 수 있기 때문에, 어느 지역, 어느 기상 데이터에도 작동할 수 있는 수문 모형의 개발이 절실히 필요하게 되었다. 이와 같은 필요성을 설명하기 위해서 객체지향(object-oriented)적인 프로그래밍 기술을 적용한 GHISMO(Geographic and Hydrologic Information System Modeling Objects)라는 수문모형(hydrologic model)을 개발하였다. GHISMO의 가장 핵심적인 수문학적 접근방법은 저류-배출(storage-release)과 지표면 유효 강수량을 구하기 위하여 SCS curve number 방법을 사용한 것이다. 이 연구에서 수문모형의 모의실험 결과를 제공할 것이다.

Phase-Field Modelling of Zinc Dendrite Growth in ZnAlMg Coatings

  • In the present work, a phase-field model for dendritic solidification is applied to hot-dip ZnAlMg coatings to elucidate the morphology of zinc dendrites and the solute segregation leading to the formation of eutectics. These aspects define the microstructure that conditions the corrosion resistance and the mechanical behaviour of the coating. Along with modelling phase transformation and solute diffusion, the implemented model is partially coupled with the tracking of crystal orientation in solid grains, thus allowing the effects of surface tension anisotropy to be considered in multi-dendrite simulations. For this purpose, the composition of a hot-dip ZnAlMg coating is assimilated to a dilute pseudo-binary system. 1D and 2D simulations of isothermal solidification are performed in a finite element solver by introducing nuclei as initial conditions. The results are qualitatively consistent with existing analytical solutions for growth velocity and concentration profiles, but the spatial domain of the simulations is limited by the required mesh refinement.

슈퍼컴퓨팅환경에서의 대규모 계산 작업 처리 기술 연구 (HTCaaS(High Throughput Computing as a Service) in Supercomputing Environment)

  • 슈퍼컴퓨팅 자원들은 주로 MPI와 같은 메시지 교환 인터페이스에 기반한 통신 집적도가 높은 고성능 컴퓨팅(HPC: High Performance Computing) 응용 분야를 지원하는데 활용되어 왔다. 반면에, 대규모 계산처리 컴퓨팅(HTC: High Throughput Computing) 방식의 패러다임은 주로 계산 집적도가 높고(상대적으로 적은 I/O 연산), 독립적인(작업들 간의 통신이 적음) 많은 수의 작업을 처리하는 것을 요구하고 있다. 국내에서도 고에너지 물리, 신약개발, 핵물리와 같은 연구 분야를 중심으로 대규모 컴퓨팅 자원을 요구하는 계산처리에 대한 수요가 증가하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 HTC 과학 응용들에 대한 효율적인 지원을 국가차원의 슈퍼컴퓨팅 분산 환경에서 제공하기 위해 연구/개발되어진 대규모 계산처리 서비스(HTCaaS: High Throughput Computing as a Service)의 전체 구조 및 구성 요소, 실행 시나리오 및 실제 응용 적용 사례 등에 대해 서술한다.

  • EV(Electric Vehicle) has many benefits such as prevention of global warming and so on. But due to driving source changing from combustion engine to battery and e-motor, new R&D difficulties have arisen which changing of desired vehicle performance and multidisciplinary design constraints by means of strong coupled multi-physics domain problems. Additionally, dynamics performances of EV becomes more important due to increasing customer's demands and expectations for EV in compare with internal combustion engine vehicle. In this paper suggests model based development platform of EV through integrated simulation environment for improving analyse & design accuracy in order to solve multi-physics problem. This simulation environment is integrated by three following specialized simulation tools IPG CarMaker, AVL Cruise, DYMOLA that adapted to each purpose. Furthermore, control algorithm of TV(Torque Vectoring) system is developed using independent driven e-motor at rear wheels for improving handling performance of EV. TV control algorithm and its improved vehicle performances are evaluated by numerical simulation from standard test methods.
