The Analysis of a Potential Solar Energy Resource Map (태양에너지 가용잠재량 자원지도 분석)

  • Many countries have recently been expanding efforts for low-carbon global economy to solve the problem of global warming. Development and research for various types of new reusable energy is on the rise throughout the world. The most promising source of energy is the solar photovoltaic energy and the government take an initiative to establish both short-term and long-term policies to develop the solar energy potential resource map. The solar energy and industrialize area researched by GIS methods for optimum site for solar power transfer system. This study attempts to address the hot issue of the development and suitability of the solar photovoltaic energy site using GIS spatial analysis. We need to analyze and describe the solar technology, green energy policies and the energy market trend of the field.

Development and Application of the Educational Program to Increase High School Students' Systems Thinking Skills - Focus on Global Warming - (고등학생들의 시스템 사고 향상을 위한 교육프로그램 개발 및 적용 - 지구온난화를 중심으로 -)

  • The purposes of this study are: (1) to develop educational program designed to improve high school students' knowledge integration and their system thinking skills about global warming and (2) to identify the change of students' system thinking level. The developed program was implemented to twenty seven high school students, and six students grouped into three highs and three lows in their performance were selected to analyze their level of system thinking. The word association, casual map and drawing were used to measure and identify any significant change. As a result, the low level system thinking group improved their system thinking skills for global warming and the earth and sub-systems after the intervention. However, participants' misconception remained the same. And the high level systems thinking group showed more organize system thinking skills about a global warming topic. It is suggested that more educational programs be developed on various topics in order for high school students to improve their systems thinking skills as well as knowledge integration of earth systems and earth environment in school curriculum.

A Study on the Characteristics of Combustion and Performance by Changing Temperature in Diesel Fuel (디젤연료 온도변화가 기관성능 및 연소특성에 관한 연구)

  • Recently the global warming caused by greenhouse gas has emerged as a global environmental problem. For this reason the continued efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emission by international cooperation and each country are in progress. Climate changing has been recognized as the world economy development from fossil fuel use is the culprit. The international maritime organization marine environment protection committee of the global warming reduction emerged restrictions on air pollution have been strengthened. Therefore, the author has investigated the effects of fuel temperature on the characteristics of combustion and performance, using an four-cycle, six cylinders and direct injection diesel engine. The results of cylinder pressure, rate of pressure rise, rate of heat release and specific fuel consumption were increased by changing of fuel temperature.

  • Recently, due to global warming, CO2 emissions is one of the global issues over all areas including construction industry. In Korea, apartment housing has large ratio of building construction and its CO2 emissions during the operation and maintenance has the most large amount of tatal life cycle of apartment housing. However, there are rare research related to this subject. So, this study investigates the CO2 emissions of domestic apartment housing during the operation and maintenance. In the future, the results of this study can be utilized in further study to decrease CO2 emissions strategy.

  • Global average temperature rise accelerates by global warming in the three decades of the 20th century. But Current HDD ( Heating Degree-Days) which we are using has been established 20 years ago. Therefore new heating degree days for 15 district areas of korea was determined using long-term measured data. Five different base temperatures ranging from 24 to $16^{\circ}C$ were chosen in the calculation of heating degree days. And yearly heating degree days were given in the tabular form.

  • Environmental problems like global warming have now become important issues that should be considered in all industries, including construction. In South Korea, many studies have been conducted to achieve the government's goals of reduction in environmental impacts. However, the research on buildings has only focused on CO2 emission as a research target despite the fact that other environmental impacts resulting from ozone depletion and acidification should also be considered, in addition to global warming. In this regard, this study attempted to propose assessment criteria and methods to evaluate the environmental performance of the structures from various aspects. The environmental impact category can be divided into global impacts, regional impacts, and local impacts. First, global impacts include global warming, ozone layer depletion, and abiotic resource depletion, while regional impacts include acidification, eutrophication, and photochemical oxidation. In addition, noise and vibration occurring in the building construction phase are defined as local impacts. The evaluation methods on the eight environmental impacts will be proposed after analyzing existing studies, and the methods representing each environmental load as monetary value will be presented. The methods presented in this study will present benefits that can be obtained through green buildings with a clear quantitative assessment on structures. Ultimately, it is expected that if the effects of green buildings are clearly presented through the findings of this study, the greening of structures will be actively expanded.

  • Climate change is one part of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). According to the Fifth Assessment Report by the Inter- governmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) published in 2014, global warming is caused by greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The most important GHG is carbon dioxide (CO2), which is released by the burning of fossil fuels and, to a lesser extent, by land use practices, followed by nitrous oxide and methane. IPCC predicts that global temperatures will rise 3.7℃ and sea level will rise 0.63 m by 2099 in the case of no strong restraint. According to the report, we can expect a massive species extinctions, changes in storm and drought cycles, altered ocean circulation, and redistribution of vegetation by global warming. However, climate changes, especially global warming, are the largest potential threat to human health and the source of a number of diseases globally. If climate changes are continued uncontrolled, human health will be adversely affected by the accelerating climate change and the natural disaster induced by climate change. It means we will face more serious conditions of injury, disease, and death related to natural disasters such as flood, drought, heat waves, malnutrition, more allergy, air pollution and climate change related infections related to morbidity and mortality. This review emphasizes on the relationship between global climate changes and human health and provides some suggestions for improvement.

  • Even though the increase of greenhouse gases such as $CO_2$ is thought to be the main cause for global warming, its impact on global climate has not been revealed clearly in rather quantitative manners. However, researches using Genral Circulation Model(GCM) has shown that the accumulation of greenhouse gases increases the global mean temperature, which in turn impacts on the global water circulation pattern. A climate predictive capability is limited by lack of understanding of the different process governing the climate and hydrologic systems. The prediction of the complex responses of the fully coupled climate and hydrologic systems can be achieved only through development of models that adequately describe the relevant process at a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. These models must ultimately couple the atmospheres, oceans, and lad and will involve many submodels that properly represent the individual processes at work within the coupled components of systems. So far, there are no climate and related hydrologic models except local rainfall-runoff models in Korea. The purpose of this research is to predict the change of temperature in Korean Peninsula using regional scale model(IRSHAM96 model) and GCM data obtained from the increasing scenarios of $CO_2$ Korean Peninsula increased by $2.5^{\circ}C$ and the duration of Winter in $lxCO_2$ condition would be shorter the $2xCo_2$ condition due to global warming.

Effects of Climate Change on Purple Laver Farming in Maro-hae (Jindo-gun and Haenam-gun), Republic of Korea and Countermeasures (기후변화가 마로해의 김 양식에 미치는 영향 및 대응방안)

  • Global warming affects critical natural resources, one of which is the oceans that occupy 70% of the total cover of the earth. In other words, ocean warming is a subset of global warming which needs to be addressed urgently. Purple laver (pyropia spp.) is one of the most vulnerable items to climate change although it is a major export product of Korean fisheries. The purpose of this study is to analyze the causality of how climate change caused by global warming affects the increase or decrease of PLP (purple laver production). The target area for analysis was set to Maro-hae between Jindo-gun and Haenam-gun. We selected marine environmental factors and meteorologic factors that could affect PLP as variables, as well as co-integration tests to determine long-term balance, and the Granger causticity tests. As a result, PLP and marine environmental factors WT (water temperature), pH, and DO confirmed that long-term equilibrium relationships were established, respectively. However, there is only causality with WT and it is confirmed that there is only a correlation between pH and DO (dissolved oxygen). There was no long-term equilibrium relationship between PLP and HDD (heating degree days) and there is a causal effect that HDD affects PLP; however, it was less clear than that of WT. The relationship between PLP and RF (rainfall), WS (wind speed), SS (percentage of sunshine), and FF (farm facilities) was all balanced in the long term, and causality exists. Based on the results of the analysis, policy proposals were made.
