This study aimed to develop and propose a Korean character group with the story of Shim Cheong applied as a motif. By borrowing the four stories (a dream of the birth of a child, filial behavior, regeneration and eyesight-gaining) presented in the story of Shim Cheong which has been passed on orally, the study designed the Korean character group and set up types of characters' roles to visualize these other characters seen in the content such as Shim Cheong the heroine, goblins, a baby dragon, Mr. Shim the blind and others. As a next step, the study applied the types to the seven essential types of Vogler's original characters. A process of how to visualize the group of those characters appearing in the story including Shim Cheong the heroine was offered. In particular, the study concentrates on figuring out how to expand and develop the Shim Cheong character to be this image of one of the most popular Korean princess characters. What this study had discussed will contribute to the field of character production when they try to commercialize characters and develop Korean characters with unique Korean features included.

The purpose of this study is to compare disfluencies and speech rates (overall speech rate and articulation rate) of normal adult speakers who use the standard Korean according to dissimilar speech tasks (story-telling and text-reading). Participants were 100 Korean adult speakers. The results are summarized as follows: First, the most frequent type of disfluency in the story-telling task was 'interjection', whereas that in the text-reading task was 'revision'. Second, the overall speech rates (syllables per second and syllables per minute) showed significant differences depending on the speech tasks. Third, the articulation rates (syllables per second and syllables per minute) showed significant differences depending on the speech tasks.

고전소설이 과거의 유품이 아니라 현재적 고전으로서의 의미를 가지기 위해서는 설화와 마찬가지로 고전소설과 어린이문학의 만남에 주목할 필요가 있는데, <심청전>의 경우는 다른 고전소설들 달리 주목할 만한 창작동화가 다수 나오고 있어 관심을 가질 만하다. 이에 이 논문에서는 2000년대 이후 창작동화를 중심으로 고전소설 <심청전>이 어린이문학에서 어떻게 변용되고 있는가를 살펴보았다. <심청전>을 변용한 창작동화는 이형진의 그림책 "비단치마", 공진하의 저학년 장편 동화 "청아 청아 눈을 떠라", 이경혜의 저학년 단편동화 "심청이 무슨 효녀야?", 강숙인의 청소년 소설 "청아 청아 예쁜 청아", 진은진의 단편 동화 청아 청아, 배유안의 청소년 장편소설 "뺑덕", 정해왕의 청소년 장편 소설 "뺑덕의 눈물" 총 7종이었다. 이들을 검토해 본 결과 그림책, 동화, 청소년 소설 등 다양한 장르와 연령을 대상으로 하면서 다양한 시각으로 다채로운 주제를 드러냄으로써 고전의 기대지평을 확장하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다. 여기에 <심청전>을 변용한 동화가 어린이와 청소년의 삶에 근접한 문학이라는 점도 고전이 가진 고리타분함과 독자와의 거리를 줄일 수 있는 중요한 요소라고 할 수 있다. <심청전>이 어린이들의 삶과 밀착하여 다채롭게 재해석되면서 고전은 현재의 것으로서의 새로운 의미를 부여받게 된다. 또한 "뺑덕의 눈물"의 경우, 서사를 <심청가>의 기원과 연결시키거나 판소리를 삽입하기도 하여 판소리계 소설로서의 <심청전>의 특성을 반영하면서 고전의 가치를 살리려는 노력을 보여주고 있었다. 아쉬운 점이 있다면 판소리계 소설의 가장 큰 특징 중의 하나인 골계미가 거의 발견되지 않는다는 점인데 <심청전>을 변용한 동화들이 앞으로 고민하고 지향해야 할 방향 중 하나라고 여겨진다.
