Young-dang(影堂) is a ritual pavilion where figures of a dedicated person is enshrined. According to literature, establishment of Young-dang architecture is thought to have the affinity with Buddhist tradition in the beginning of its history. A tradition of enshrining figure could be found especially in Buddhism. Until the mid Joseon dynasty, enshrining figure made of wood, clay and bronze was quite often at Young-dang. In Confucian ritual tradition, a pavilion where enshrining ancestor's sprit tablet called Sadang(祠堂) or Myo(廟). In regarding portrait is a sort of figure, it has to be concerned with Buddhist ritual tradition. For this reaseon, Young-dang started to be distinguished from older aspect of existence in mid Joseon dynasty when the study of Confucian courtesy widely spread. It show the transformation process of Young-dang architecture from Buddhist tradition to Confucian tradition in J oseon dynasty.
Problem sovling skill is one of the core skills in mathematics education. To improve students' problem solving skill, the project approach or project based learning has been developed and applied. A teaching and learning strategy utilizing 'project' encourages students to understand the problem embedded in the project, find and reflect the solution, which might be effective in improving students' problem solving skill. The present study systematically reviews literature regarding project based learning and analyzes the characteristics of project. The findings from the systematic review illuminate an appropriate approach to apply project based learning in mathematics classrooms.
Korean adoptee narratives have proliferated over the last ten years as adopted Koreans have begun to represent their own experiences of violent dislocation, displacement and loss in various forms of literary and artistic works, including poems, autobiographical works, novels, documentaries and films. These narratives by Korean adoptees have intervened in the current diaspora discourse to question further the traditional categories of race, ethnicity, culture and nation by representing the unique experiences of the forced and involuntary migration of adopted Koreans. For a long time, the adoption discourse has been mostly constructed from the perspectives of adoptive parents. Therefore the voice of adoptees as well as that of the birth mothers have not been properly heard or represented in adoption discourse. According to Hosu Kim, the U. S. adoption discourse, feeling pressured to deal with the stigma of the commodification of children, changed from viewing the adoptees as children who had been rescued from poverty and abandonment to considering them as a gift from the birth mothers. With the emergence of the gift rhetoric in transnational adoption, the birth mothers erased from adoption discourse have begun to be acknowledged as one of the central characters in the adoption triad. If Korean adoptees are the "the ghostly children of Korean history," the birth mothers are their "ghostly doubles" who "bear the mark of a repressed national trauma." Somebody's Daughter represents the female experiences of becoming an adopted child and of being a birth mother. In particular, the novel makes a birth mother, the forgotten presence in adoptee narratives, into a central figure in the triangular relationship created by international adoption. The novel historicizes the experiences of a Korean adoptee growing up in America as well as those of a mother who had suffered silently from feelings of unbearable loss, guilt, grief and from unforgettable memories. In addition, narrating the birth mother's story is a way to give humanity back to these forgotten women in Korean adoption history. Revisiting the site of loss both for a mother and a daughter through the novel is an act of collective mourning. The narratives about and by Korean adoptees force Korean intellectuals to reflect seriously upon Korean society and its underlying ideology which prevents a woman from mothering her own baby, and to take an ethical and political stand on this current social and political issue.
Objectives : This study aims to increase efficiency of the prescription similarity analysis method that uses drug composition ratio. Methods : The controlled experiment compared result generation time, generated data quantity, and accuracy of results between previous and new analysis method on the 12,598 formulas and 61 prescription groups. Results : The control group took 346 seconds on average and generated 768,478 results, while the test group took 24 seconds and generated 241,739 results. The test group adopted a selective calculation method that only used overlapping data between two formulas instead of analyzing all number of cases. It simplified the data processing process, reducing the quantity of data that is required to be processed, leading to better system speed, as fast as 14.47 times more than previous analysis method with equal results. Conclusions : Efficiency for similarity analysis could be improved by reducing data span and simplifying the calculation processes.

The purpose of this study is to develop a thesaurus for women's oral history in modern Korea. Literature review and case studies for four thesauri were performed for this study with which a thesaurus was built based upon the index terms in oral history records. The process of developing the thesaurus consisted of five steps. First, there are 1,784 index terms from the oral history records by 53 modern Korean women were extracted and analyzed. Second, possible terms for the thesaurus were selected through regular meetings with experts in the fields of information organization and women's oral history. Third, relationships between terms were defined by focusing on equivalence, hierarchy, and association. Fourth, after developing a Web-based thesaurus management system, terms and relationships were input to the system. Fifth, terms and relationships were again reviewed by experts from the relevant fields. As a result, the thesaurus comprise of 1,076 terms and those terms were classified to 39 broad subject areas, including proper nouns, such as geographic names, places, person's names, corporate names, and others, and it will be expanded with more oral history records from other people during the same period.
This study examined the perception of the royal family and scholars, focusing on the records of the royal family and literary collections in the late Joseon Dynasty, and attempted to present the process of accepting this content in Korea through domestic and foreign medical documents and other literature. The perception of this content in the late Joseon Dynasty can be said to be a characteristic to the history of acupuncture and moxibustion in the Joseon period. This seems to have occurred after the middle of the Joseon Dynasty, when both acupuncture and medicine were commonly performed on the king. This content was generally recognized by Joseon's scholars because it had been in books read by the scholars before it was mentioned directly in the medical book. Korean medical books were influenced by Uihakyimmun, and this content continued steadily in various medical books. Since the books containing this content were test subjects for the medical exam, it can be assumed that they were generally accepted by doctors in the late Joseon Dynasty.
We Koreans are very proud of this nation's cultural history over some five millenniums. But most of the relics found in the nation date back up to two thousand years. Under this circumstance, we are wondering the gap and missing of three thousand years. In our traditional literature of history, [Chiwoo] was a military god of supreme dignity and virtue. He was a symbol of brave and strong warriors and since the antiquity, he has been kept alive deeply in the mind of the Korean race. Considering findings through this study, the researcher could provide a conclusion as described below. 1) The name of Paekje's designed tiles was initially made by a Japanese scholar who had first found the antique relic. According to studies by a few of Korean researchers, the name is usually called despite its relation with a historical background of the excavated objects has not been fully studied. 2) After the patterned objects of the Korean antique Kingdom, Japanese researchers reported that [Chiwoo] was a military god as exorcist and probably represented something in the form of a ghost, although there were arguments that the military god was the very being to influence the image of the ghost. This report suggests that the Japanese community didn't downgrade the military god onto the level of a ghost. 3) One of our antique nations, Paekje at that time sought to determine the origin and culture of the Koreans by making multiple exchange relations with China, and probably accepting cultures of the Chinese Han nation and those of the Chinese South and North Dynasty period. Based on findings from a relevant literature, [Sulyigi], people of Paekje attempted to show express the image of Chiwoo in their own unique ways and then deliver the strong bravery of [Chiwoo] to us, or their descendents. This can explain that those findings as above mentioned are consistent with the designed tiles of Paekje, and that the tiles should not be named as the design of ghost. 4) The designed tiles involved elements of Taoism and Buddhism and substantially considered the spirit of four gods which was mobilized for the tomb construction and selection at that time. But this should never be a reason why all of the horned figures seen in tomb wall paintings are collectively treated as ghosts. 5) From the view of historic literature, we can no doubt say that the Heavenly Emperor [Chiwoo] was our ancestor. It is not better to say that the relic stuffs as excavated should be referred to the design of ghost image only in that they have yet to be associated historically with other relics. This claim would be newly changed as it becomes clear with historical remains that our antique ancestors kept doing positive activities along the coast of the antique kingdom, Balhae.

The aim of this study is to analyze the research trend focusing on Yangseng(養生) studies in Korea. Through this study, the researchers attempt to explore the research trends of the Yangseng(養生) in Traditional Korean Medicine. Yangseng(養生) as a key word was searched on representative domestic databases of articles and the researchers and collected the articles of journals published from 1980 to 2012. Finally 350 articles of Yangseng(養生) were selected. After mid-2000s, Yangseng(養生) studies has been increased with the great interest in quality of life. Taoism and Traditional Korean Medicine were closely related with Yangseng(養生). Most of the Yangseng(養生) Studies in Medicine have been carried out by Traditional Korean Medicine and primarily focused in the literature. Yangseng(養生) has been defined as a sort of health-promoting behaviors. Therefore, Yangseng(養生) studies that mainly analyzed the variables associated with health-related quality of life and Yangseng(養生) and the main subjects were elderly and workers in this study. But every measuring instrument except Yangseng(養生) was adapted from western tools. In order to handle the new wave of society and medicine, new health concept and measuring instrument of Traditional Korean Medicine should be developed through Korean unique ideas of Yangseng(養生).
Takji-oryego (A Review of the Five manners related to the Ministry of Finance) is a book organized by Hojo (Joseon's Ministry of Finance) and the cost and details of royal events held according to five manners. This book contained a lot of information on medicine-related rituals in the late Joseon Dynasty. Thus, it was found that the royal rituals related to medicine include not only childbirth and fertility, but also Heuljeon and Sangjeon. Through this study, the following facts were newly discovered: 1) The time of transcription was between October 1840 and October 1841. 2) Huljeon (Privilege given to save) is also related to the rise of the status of medical officials after King Sukjong. 3) According to Heuljeon, medical bureaucrats in the late Joseon Dynasty had a higher position than other technical officials. 4) The contents of reward were complementary to the existing literature. The date of death of a medical official, which was unknown in previous studies, is documented. In a case like Sansilcheong, there are contents that are unknown through other sources.
Introduction : Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM) is one of the most popular specialty in Korean traditional medicine. After Donguisusebowon (東醫壽世保元), the book initiated SCM at first, there have been several books related with SCM. Through this study on Donguisasangsinpyeon (東醫四象新編), we intend to present clinical application of SCM and the spread of its use. Methods and Discussion : Firstly, we will examine the author's life and philosophy, and consider various editions of Donguisasangsinpyeon. And we will attempt content analysis to the preface, foreword, afterword, and main text. Using these methods, we will show that Donguisasangsinpyeon not only succeed the theory of Donguisusebowon faithfully, but also expand the clinical use of SCM. Conclusions : Donguisasangsinpyeon is the first SCM-based clinical book after Donguisusebowon. And the book can also be valued for its adoption of explanatory diagrams that help people select customized prescriptions conveniently and easily.
