Two wavelength reconfigurable optical nodes are designed. One for 20km or shorter link length, and the other for up to 60km link length. While the first one requires no dispersion compensation, the latter needs dispersion compensation fiber included in the node, which requires additional optical amplifier to compensate the insertion loss of DCF. We calculate all the optical path losses in both cases using the typical value of optical components in the market to see the feasibility of the designed optical node. The minimum received power in the node is calculated to be -21.5dBm without DCF and -12.5dBm with DCF, respectively. These received powers are above the receiver sensitivity both for OC-48 and OC-192 according to the previous work.

Wakeup schemes that turn off sensors' radio when communication is not necessary have great potential in energy saving. At the start of each beacon interval in the IEEE 802.11 power saving mode specified for DCF, each node periodically wakes up for duration called the ATIM Window. However, in the power saving mechanism specified in IEEE 802.11, all nodes use the same ATIM window size. Since the ATIM window size critically affects throughput and energy consumption, a fixed ATIM window does not perform well in all situations. This paper proposes an adaptive mechanism to dynamically choose an ATIM window size according to network condition. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the IEEE 802.11 power saving mechanism in terms of the amount of power consumed and the packet delivery ratio.

The IEEE 802.11 is a MAC protocol which has been standardized by IEEE for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). In the IEEE 802.11 WLANs, network nodes experiencing collisions on the shared channel need to backoff for a random period of time, which is uniformly selected from the Contention Window (CW). This contention window is dynamically controlled by the Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) algorithm. However, the BEB scheme suffers from a fairness problem; some nodes can achieve significantly larger throughput than others. This paper proposes a new backoff algorithm for the IEEE 802.11 DCF scheme. This algorithm uses the hop count for considering fairness. It causes flows with high hop count to generate short backoff interval than those with low hop count, thus getting high priority. Therefore, when a collision occurs, the modified IEEE 802.11 DCF assigns higher priority to flow to be close to a destination.

When multiple rates of return occur, none of them is an accurate portrayal of project acceptability or profitability. For the simple investment situation, it was known that the IRR can serve as an appropriate index for either accepting or rejecting the investment. But, in this situation, we present that the IRR criterion is not same to DCF criterion. On the contrary we can easily show that the RRR criterion is completely consistent with the DCF criterion. Thus, the RRR is very well match for an accurate portrayal of project acceptability or profitability.

To improve the accuracy and enhance the applicability of existing models, this paper proposes a generalized Markov chain model for IEEE 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) under the widely adopted assumption of ideal transmission channel. The IEEE 802.11 DCF is modeled by a two dimensional Markov chain, which takes into account unsaturated traffic, backoff freezing, retry limits, the difference between maximum retransmission count and maximum backoff exponent, and limited buffer size based on the M/G/1/K queuing model. We show that existing models can be treated as special cases of the proposed generalized model. Furthermore, simulation results validate the accuracy of the proposed model.
This paper focuses on contention-based medium access control (MAC) protocols used in wireless local area networks. We propose a novel MAC protocol called adaptive backoff tuning MAC (ABTMAC) based on IEEE 802.11 distributed coordination function (DCF). In our proposed MAC protocol, we utilize a fixed transmission attempt rate and each node dynamically adjusts its backoff window size considering the current network status. We determined the appropriate transmission attempt rate for both cases where the request-to-send/clear-to-send mechanism was and was not employed. Robustness against performance degradation caused by the difference between desired and actual values of the attempt rate parameter is considered when setting it. The performance of the protocol is evaluated analytically and through simulations. These results indicate that a wireless network utilizing ABTMAC performs better than one using IEEE 802.11 DCF.

Ad Hoc 네트워크는 단말간 채널 경쟁을 통해 데이터 패킷을 전송하는 DCF(Distributed Coordination Function)에 기반을 둔다. 성능 향상을 위해 DPCF(Distributed Point Coordination Function) 방법이 제안되었다.
