Design and Implementation of GIS Based Automatic Terrain Analysis System for Field Operation

  • A GIS based tactical terrain analysis system named ATTAS(Army Tactical Terrain Analysis Software) has been designed and implemented to support the field commanders for enhancing the capabiliy of their unit and efficiency of weapon system. This system is designed to provide computer graphics environment in which the analyst can interactively operate the entire analyzing process such as selecting the area of interest, performing analysis functions, simulating required battlefield operation and display the results. This system can be divided into three major sections; the terrain analysis modules, utilites, and graphic editor. The terrain analysis module inclused surface analysis, line of sight analysis, enemy disposition, 3D display, radar coverage, logistic route analysis, shortest path analysis, atmospheric phenomena prediction, automated IPB (Inteligence preparation of Battlefield), and other applied analysis. A combination of 2D and 3D computer graphics techniques using the X-window system with OSF/Motif in UNIX workstation was adopted as the user interface. The integration technique of remotely sensed images and GIS data such as precision registration, overlay, and on-line editing was developed and implemented. An efficient image and GIS data management technique was also developed and implemented using Oracle Database Management System.

  • In this thesis, in order to develop a new classification model of Sasang Constitutional medical types, which is helpful for improving the accuracy of diagnosis of medical types. various data-mining classification models such as discriminant analysis. decision trees analysis, neural networks analysis, logistics regression analysis, clustering analysis which are main classification methods were applied to the questionnaires of medical type classification. In this manner, a model which scientifically classifies constitutional medical types in the field of Sasang Constitutional Medicine, one of a traditional Korean medicine, has been developed. Also, the above-mentioned analysis models were systematically compared and analyzed. In this study, a classification of Sasang constitutional medical types was developed based on the discriminate analysis model and decision trees analysis model of which accuracy is relatively high, of which analysis procedure is easy to understand and to explain and which are easy to implement. Also, a diagnosis system of Sasang constitution was implemented applying the two analysis models.

  • This paper presents a windows application for voltage sag analysis and effective data visualization. The developed Voltage Sag Analysis Tool (VSAT) was designed by using the Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concept and C++ programming language. The VSAT provides basic functions for voltage sag analysis such as power flow analysis, short circuit analysis and stochastic analysis. In particular, the VSAT provides effective data visualization through computer graphics and animation. Analysis results are expressed realistically and intuitively on geographical display. The Graphic User Interface (GUI) of VSAT was designed specifically for voltage sag analysis. In this paper, the development and implementation of VSAT is presented. In order to demonstrate the capabilities of VSAT, it is used to analyze the Jeju Island power system in South Korea.

  • An electromagnetic linear actuator is controlled precisely and securely and is useful in devices that require linear motion. The most commonly used method in the performance verification process for an electromagnetic actuator is finite element analysis that utilizes CAE. However, finite element analysis has the disadvantage that modeling and analysis consume a lot of time. Accordingly, lumped parameter analysis can be an alternative approach to the finite element method because of its computation iteration capability with fair accuracy. In this paper, the lumped parameter model and simulation results are presented. In addition, the results of the lumped parameter analysis are compared with those obtained from finite element analysis for verification.

  • The Spectral Fatigue Analysis is representative fatigue life assessment method for vessels. This Analysis is performed generally for the whole vessel and many assessment sites. The spectral fatigue analysis is performed through the process of hydrodynamic response analysis, global structural analysis, local structural analysis and calculation of fatigue damage. In these processes, fatigue damage is affected by many variables. The representative variables are S-N curve data, wave scatter data, wave spectrum, bandwidth effect and etc. In this paper, the effects of these variables to the fatigue damage are analyzed through the spectral fatigue analysis for 170k LNGC.

  • Cluster analysis is a primitive technique in which no assumptions are made concerning the data structure. And the number of groups is known a priori discriminant analysis provides an information how well N individuals are classified into their own groups. In this study, clustering, which is any partition of a collection of data points, generated by the application of eight hierarchical clustering methods was re-classified by discriminant analysis. Then correct classification ratios were obtained for the application of discriminant analysis through each clustering method and the direct application of discriminant analysis. By comparing the correct classification ratios, the applicability of cluster analysis and discriminant analysis considered.

  • Despite the increasing necessity of accurate estimation of ring-stiffened cylinders' ultimate strength, the complex structural behavior of cylinders has made their design mainly depend on empirical formulas mostly based on insufficient test data rather than theoretical background. This paper has developed the imperfection method which enables the ultimate strength analysis of buckling sensitive structures by combining two general functions of common commercial finite element softwares, linear elastic buckling analysis and nonlinear stress analysis. Developed method was applied to two of the world most renowned commercial softwares, MSC/NASTRAN and ABAQUS, for the analysis of ring-stiffened cylinders and unexpectedly big difference in their analysis results was found. This tells that many widely used commercial softwares has their different strong points and week points and the choice of commercial software should be cautiously made after thorough inspection. This paper ends with some useful information about which of the aforementioned two softwares is more appropriate respectively for linear elastic buckling analysis and ultimate strength analysis of ring-stiffened cylinders.

  • The cost-benefit analysis is a technique for assisting with decision about the use of society's scare resources. There exists no detailed assessment like cost-benefit analysis. But recently, many policy analysts criticized the merit of cost-benefit analysis. As it is, it can be said that partial or approximate estimates of benefit and cost may be more dangerous than helpful. The purpose of this study is to overcome the limit of traditional cost-benefit analysis. For this purpose, we use the system dynamics approach for setting up new cost-benefit analysis, which we named that ‘Dynamics Cost-Benefit Analysis'. The usefulness of ‘Dynamics Cost-Benefit Analysis' is as follows; finding structural causal relationship between cost factors and benefit factors, understanding the long-term behavior of systems economic feasibility. In this study, we apply 'Dynamic Cost-Benefit Analysis' to case that is construction investment of funeral house by local government sector.

Analysis for Soil Pollution by Heavy Metals in the Area of Kyongbuk (경북지역 토양의 중금속 분석)

  • The investigation was initiated with data from 27 abandoned mines along with 12 locations in Kyongbuk abandoned mines. The analyses for soil pollution by heavy metal pollutants were conducted by using correlation analysis, cluster analysis, and principal component analysis. The correlation analysis indicated that Ni and pH were highly correlated compared to those of other heavy metal ions. The principal component analyses showed that the heavy metal ions might be classified into two catagories, such as antropogenic and lithogenic components. The cluster analysis was also clearly divided by two groups. The respective two groups might be Pb-Zn-Cd-Cu and As-Hg-Ni.

Priority Analysis for Software Functions Using Social Network Analysis and DEA(Data Envelopment Analysis) (사회연결망 분석과 자료포락분석 기법을 이용한 소프트웨어 함수 우선순위 분석 연구)

  • To remove software defects and improve performance of software, many developers perform code inspections and use static analysis tools. A code inspection is an activity that is performed manually to detect software defects in the developed source. However, there is no clear criterion which source codes are inspected. A static analysis tool can automatically detect software defects by analyzing the source codes without running the source codes. However, it has disadvantage that analyzes only the codes in the functions without analyzing the relations among source functions. The functions in the source codes are interconnected and formed a social network. Functions that occupy critical locations in a network can be important enough to affect the overall quality. Whereas, a static analysis tool merely suggests which functions were called several times. In this study, the core functions will be elicited by using social network analysis and DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) for CUBRID open database sources. In addition, we will suggest clear criteria for selecting the target sources for code inspection and will suggest ways to find core functions to minimize defects and improve performance.
