  • Several domestic and foreign design methods for rock socketed drilled shafts were introduced in this study. In order to verify these design methods, the results of field pile load tests were compared with predicted capacities using them. Based on this study, AASHTO(1996) and FHWA(1999) design methods tend to underestimate, and CFEM(2006) and NAVFAC(1982) tend to overestimate. The difference between the predicted and measured values was caused by reflecting different rock socket geometry and also different rock properties in each design method.

  • This paper deals with the design review of a power converter topologies for CEDMCS (Control Element Drive Mechanism Control System). The CEDMCS provides the control signals and motive power to operate the CEDMS. The CEDM's raise and lower the CEAs (Control Element Assemblies) in the reactor core. The CEAs are constructed with the Boron-10 isotope which has a high microscopic cross section of absorption for thermal neutrons. This characteristic causes the addition of negative reactivity when a CEA is inserted and positive reactivity when it is withdrawn from the reactor core.

  • KAERI is performing a project on out-pile test technology development for a full scale PWR fuel assembly. We have introduced the hydraulic test facility, a test assembly, test parameters, test methods, and a data acquisition system. The start up test will be in the middle of March 2005 and the main test will be accomplished by the end of 2006. The established test facility and measuring technique will contribute to the satisfaction of domestic needs for the design verification to improve the reliability of a PWR plant operation.

  • Although population of the elderly is increasing rapidly, the older adults are the least users of the Internet in Korea. Prior research suggests that older adults are physically and psychologically disadvantaged when using the Internet. With the existence of the digital divide over different age groups, the objectives of this study were to identify the current status of Internet usage of Korean adults and to suggest some alternatives for solving digital divide on Internet usage. A total of 654 Korean adults, including the elderly, participated in both on-line and off-line (on-site interview) surveys using structured questionnaires. The results of statistical analyses indicated that the gap between the percentages of Internet users in younger and older groups was significantly wide, though many older adults had strong interests of Internet. To reduce this gap on digital divide, with an appropriate help from family and government, several characteristics of the elderly should be considered in designing some age-related web sites. Some effective alternatives suggested in this study may be used as basic data for universal design of Internet-oriented software.

  • The goal of this research is to find a theoretical base of the ecological paradigm, and explore the architectural ramification of the paradigm. To understand the paradigm in a historical and philosophical context, the paradigm is comparatively analyzed with the contrasting, Descartes-Newtonian paradigm to reveal the influence of each respective paradigm in various fields of science, such as logic, physics, bio-medical sciences, psychology, social sciences, and architecture. The affect in architectural ream is studied to find out the patterns of how the two contrasting paradigms have been materialized since the era of modern architecture and later. At the end, this paper proposes the possible architectural application methods of ecological design process.

  • This paper analyzes on LHGS (LRIT/HRIT Generation Subsystem) processing timeline for COMS LHGS design. The LHGS shall transmit LRIT/HRIT (Low Rate Information Transmission/ High Rate Information Transmission) data to the users within 15 minutes after the end of the image acquisition. So, this paper performs experiment using MTSAT-1R LRIT/HRIT (11 days) and calculates minimum LHGS processing time. Only HRIT FD (Full Disk) image is considered in this paper because data size of HRIT FD image is the largest. As a result of experiment, COMS LHGS should be able to receive MI Level 1B product within 157 seconds at least.
