Text-driven Speech Animation with Emotion Control

  • In this paper, we present a new approach to creating speech animation with emotional expressions using a small set of example models. To generate realistic facial animation, two example models called key visemes and expressions are used for lip-synchronization and facial expressions, respectively. The key visemes represent lip shapes of phonemes such as vowels and consonants while the key expressions represent basic emotions of a face. Our approach utilizes a text-to-speech (TTS) system to create a phonetic transcript for the speech animation. Based on a phonetic transcript, a sequence of speech animation is synthesized by interpolating the corresponding sequence of key visemes. Using an input parameter vector, the key expressions are blended by a method of scattered data interpolation. During the synthesizing process, an importance-based scheme is introduced to combine both lip-synchronization and facial expressions into one animation sequence in real time (over 120Hz). The proposed approach can be applied to diverse types of digital content and applications that use facial animation with high accuracy (over 90%) in speech recognition.

텍스트마이닝과 CONCOR을 활용한 중독 관련 국내 연구 동향 분석 (Analysis of trends in domestic research on addiction using text mining and CONCOR)

  • 이 연구는 한국의 중독 연구의 동향을 파악하고 발전 방향을 모색하기 위해 2020년부터 2022년까지 지난 3년간 국내 전문학술지 게재 논문 817 건을 대상으로 텍스트마이닝 기법을 활용하여 분석한 연구이다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 다양한 중독 관련 키워드가 나타났으나 스마트폰, 게임, 인터넷, 도박, 관계중독 등 모바일을 중심으로 한 온라인에서의 행위중독 관련 중독 연구들이 주요 상위 키워드로 두드러지게 나타났다. 둘째, TF-IDF 분석결과 중독연구에서 지난 3년 간 스마트폰이나, 게임, 인터넷, 일 중독과 같은 행위중독 관련 중독연구가 많이 수행되었고 특히, 아직 임상적으로 중독문제로 진단화 하고 있지 않은 스마트폰이나 게임, 인터넷 등에 대한 중독문제들에 대한 연구수행이 많다는 것을 알 수 있다. 셋째, 2-gram 분석 결과 스마트폰이나 게임, 인터넷 등 주로 행위중독에 해당 되는 단어들이 중독이라는 키워드와 나란히 등장하는 비율이 매우 높으며, 그 가운데 스마트폰과 중독문제와 관련하여 쌍을 이루는 단어들이 연구논문에서 많이 언급되고 있음을 알 수 있다. 넷째, CONCOR 분석결과 알코올사용장애, 인터넷 등 보편적 중독문제에 관한 연구, 마약과 도박중독의 회복 관련 연구, 모바일기기와 미디어 중독 관련 연구, 행위중독 관련 최신 경향 연구, 그 외 기타 중독 문제 관련 연구로 5개의 군집으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구 결과를 바탕으로 향후 중독 관련 연구를 위한 방향성을 제언하였다.

Best Practice of Gamification in Block Coding Learning Platform based on Virtual Reality

  • Due to the government's announcement of the 2025 policy mandating coding education, there is a growing need for effective coding learning methods in elementary education. However, there are few methods available that can easily help younger students understand coding. While text-based coding and visual block coding methods exist, they have limitations. To address these issues, we propose a block coding learning platform that combines virtual reality (VR) technology with gamification elements. The traditional two dimensional (2D) block coding methods have some limitations, so this platform aims to overcome these by providing an environment where learners can intuitively understand and experience coding in a three dimensional (3D) virtual space. The primary goal is to enhance immersive, learner-centered experiences and improve creative problem-solving skills and computational thinking. This study proposes an experimental approach to demonstrate the effectiveness of a learning platform that combines VR technology with block coding. Furthermore, we expect that the VR-based platform will significantly contribute to improving the quality of education and promoting self-directed learning among students.

  • In this paper, we present a VR-based interface method which provides users more natural, realistic, and interactive communication and collaboration tool. Since most services in the communication systems matches with the services in the real world, the best understanding would be achieved when the communication services are represented in accordance with the services in the real world. However, conventional text-based interface and 2D GUI cannot provide such reality to the users. In this paper, we discuss VR-based interface to overcome such difficulty and introduce one instance of communication system using the VR-based realistic, what we call Virtual Village, which we are currently developing. This application might be applied to education in virtual space, desktop conferencing system, and entertainment such as MUD or the games in the distributed environment, etc.

  • MMORPG는 80년대 초 텍스트 기반의 MUD에서 출발하여 현재에 이르러 많은 기술의 발전을 이루어냈다. 이러한 기술이 발전함에 따라 지금까지 남성 매니아층 중심의 게임에서 변화하여 다양한 성향의 플레이어의 이용이 증가하고 있다. 이를 바탕으로 MMORPG 가상공간에서의 새로운 현상이 생겨나게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 MMORPG 유저들을 Q방법론을 이용한 플레이어의 5가지 요인으로 나누어 팬덤 현상에 대해 연구하였다. 이를 통해 플레이어는 레벨에 따른 자기표현 현상이 두드러지게 나타났고, 게임 플레이 자체를 즐기는 것에서 더 발전해서 팬덤 현상으로 발전하는 특징을 알 수 있었다.

Game-type as Metaverse System for Problem Based Learning Classes

  • After COVID-19, various metaverse platforms for online lectures are being provided. Most of the classrooms are tiered type, and they are divided into intensive classrooms and open classrooms depending on the shape of the classrooms. Intensive classrooms provide a one-sided lecture format, so there are many difficulties in conducting communication-based classes that carry out team missions like PBL classes. In this study, we propose a metaverse classroom that applies the functions of a multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), one of the game genres suitable for PBL classes. The proposed system provides various interaction techniques for PBL classes. We evaluated user satisfaction when this was applied to actual classes. As a result of the evaluation, it was found that users preferred text and voice chatting more than video chatting and solving missions like games was very helpful in online classes.

Profane or Not: Improving Korean Profane Detection using Deep Learning

  • Abusive behaviors have become a common issue in many online social media platforms. Profanity is common form of abusive behavior in online. Social media platforms operate the filtering system using popular profanity words lists, but this method has drawbacks that it can be bypassed using an altered form and it can detect normal sentences as profanity. Especially in Korean language, the syllable is composed of graphemes and words are composed of multiple syllables, it can be decomposed into graphemes without impairing the transmission of meaning, and the form of a profane word can be seen as a different meaning in a sentence. This work focuses on the problem of filtering system mis-detecting normal phrases with profane phrases. For that, we proposed the deep learning-based framework including grapheme and syllable separation-based word embedding and appropriate CNN structure. The proposed model was evaluated on the chatting contents from the one of the famous online games in South Korea and generated 90.4% accuracy.

Extracting and Clustering of Story Events from a Story Corpus

  • This article describes how events that make up text stories can be represented and extracted. We also address the results from our simple experiment on extracting and clustering events in terms of emotions, under the assumption that different emotional events can be associated with the classified clusters. Each emotion cluster is based on Plutchik's eight basic emotion model, and the attributes of the NLTK-VADER are used for the classification criterion. While comparisons of the results with human raters show less accuracy for certain emotion types, emotion types such as joy and sadness show relatively high accuracy. The evaluation results with NRC Word Emotion Association Lexicon (aka EmoLex) show high accuracy values (more than 90% accuracy in anger, disgust, fear, and surprise), though precision and recall values are relatively low.

  • The aim of this study is to show that using a Web-Based Instruction system is a better method to help counteract deficient teaching, learning conditions and facilities thus improving the students' interest, understanding, participation and skill development in Physical Education. The key findings of this study are as follows; The first advantage of using this system is that the theory of Softball is explained with the use of pictures rather than text, thus improving the students' understanding. The second is the method in which practical skills are explained and demonstrated. Action image sequences are used as opposed to the old method of using stationary pictures. This means that the learners can clearly see and understand why and, more importantly, how to use these skills. The third advantage is the technique used to teach the application of these skills. Using active rather than passive learning and thus engaging the student encourages improved participation and learning. The fourth advantage comes in evaluation: both subjective and objective questions are asked in theoretical evaluation, and the teachers can evaluate the students' understanding and skill development by filming their actual Softball games. 메타버스 앱 시장과 여가: 오큘러스 앱 분석 (Metaverse App Market and Leisure: Analysis on Oculus Apps)

  • 가상현실 게임의 성장과 블록체인 기술의 대중화는 메타버스(metaverse) 산업 생태계 형성에 유의미한 변화를 가져오고 있다. 메타(Meta)가 VR 기기 제조 및 관련 콘텐츠 개발사인 오큘러스(Oculus)를 인수한 이후, 가상현실 콘텐츠 시장의 성장이 가속화되고 있다. 본 연구를 통해 우리는 가상현실 앱 마켓의 콘텐츠를 탐색적으로 분석하여 여가(leisure)가 어떻게 기존의 모바일 앱과 가상현실 앱을 구분 짓고 있는지 탐색적으로 알아보았다. 이를 위해 오큘러스 한국 스토어에 등록된 241개 앱의 장르와 설명을 텍스트 마이닝으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 앱 카테고리 키워드를 기초로 앱에 대한 준네트워크(quasi-network)를 생성하여 키워드 장르 간 암묵적 지식 네트워크를 시각화하였다. 또한 G&F 역할 프레임워크를 활용하여 여가가 차지하는 상대적 역할을 조명하였다. 추가적으로, 사용자의 리뷰 데이터를 LDA 토픽 모델링 방법으로 분석하였다. 본 연구는 가상현실 하의 메타버스 앱 생태계의 특징을 규명하기 위한 이론 개발의 기초 자료를 제공한다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
