  • LED is just a semiconductor which can produce light. Currently, there are active research works on LED lighting technologies according to the growth of energy-saving environmental industry. Especially, LED communication is one of the active research works in these fields. In this paper, we design a LED communication-based PC-PC transmission system. A transmission circuit system(transmitter) using LED and a receiving circuit system(receiver) using PD(photo detector) and Op-amp are designed, respectively. The experiments for the designed system are performed as follows. One computer is connected at the end of transmitter and receiver, respectively, and text files are transmitted by using text transmission programming. In this experiment, we test the performance with various baud rates, LED colors, transmission ranges.

  • This paper presents a new agent which convert HTML contents to VXML contents automatically for voice services via web. In this paper, I propose an interactive hybrid sequential contents selection method to select desired contents fast and robustly from known web pages. It uses real time structural features as well as embedded text and/or priori structural knowledge such as link symbol position. To verify its effectiveness, a full agent system is implemented and tested. The method reflects user intention more accurately than conventional selections using structural features and is more robust to variations of HTML programming techniques. The agent is fast and has less computational burden than methods use XML or XHTML conversion as intermediate stage.

  • In this paper, we designed and developed an Emotional Speech Synthesis Markup Language (SSML) processor. Multi-speaker emotional speech synthesis technology that can express multiple voice colors and emotional expressions have been developed, and we designed Emotional SSML by extending SSML for multiple voice colors and emotional expressions. The Emotional SSML processor has a graphic user interface and consists of following four components. First, a multi-speaker emotional text editor that can easily mark specific voice colors and emotions on desired positions. Second, an Emotional SSML document generator that creates an Emotional SSML document automatically from the result of the multi-speaker emotional text editor. Third, an Emotional SSML parser that parses the Emotional SSML document. Last, a sequencer to control a multi-speaker and emotional Text-to-Speech (TTS) engine based on the result of the Emotional SSML parser. Based on SSML which is a programming language and platform independent open standard, the Emotional SSML processor can easily integrate with various speech synthesis engines and facilitates the development of multi-speaker emotional text-to-speech applications.

  • Determining the similarity between two strings can be applied various area such as information retrieval, spell checker and spam filtering. Similarity calculation between Korean strings based on dynamic programming methods firstly requires a definition of the similarity between phonemes. However, existing methods have a limitation that they use manually set similarity scores. In this paper, we propose a method to automatically calculate inter-phoneme similarity from a given set of variant words using a PAM-like probabilistic model. Our proposed method first finds the pairs of similar words from a given word set, and derives derivation rules from text alignment results among the similar word pairs. Then, similarity scores are calculated from the frequencies of variations between different phonemes. As an experimental result, we show an improvement of 10.1%~14.1% and 8.1%~11.8% in terms of sensitivity compared with the simple match-mismatch scoring scheme and the manually set inter-phoneme similarity scheme, respectively, with a specificity of 77.2%~80.4%.

  • In this paper, we investigate the notion of error correction memory applied to technical texts. The main purpose is to introduce flexibility and context sensitivity in the detection and the correction of errors related to Constrained Natural Language (CNL) principles. This is realized by enhancing error detection paired with relatively generic correction patterns and contextual correction recommendations. Patterns are induced from previous corrections made by technical writers for a given type of text. The impact of such an error correction memory is also investigated from the point of view of the technical writer's cognitive activity. The notion of error correction memory is developed within the framework of the LELIE project an experiment is carried out on the case of fuzzy lexical items and negation, which are both major problems in technical writing. Language processing and knowledge representation aspects are developed together with evaluation directions.
