The Design of a Programming Learning Model with the Use of the Mndstorms NXT (Mindstorms NXT를 이용한 프로그래밍 학습모형 설계)

  • It is possible to solve many structural problems such as the occurrence of a lot of errors involving misspelling which may occur during the learning of existing programming language, difficulty in grammatical expression and understanding, and difficulty in the expression of algorithm if the program learning tool of the department of computer education in a college of education is utilized as an educational robot. This study developed a learning model (curriculum and a textbook) so that students who major in computer education may easily learn programming by using the NXT software of a Mindstorms robot.

Fate of abstracts presented at the Turkish Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (TAOMS) meetings between 2007 and 2009

  • Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the rate of peer-reviewed publication of abstracts presented at the annual meetings of the Turkish Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (TAOMS) and to identify the time to publication, subspecialty, and study design. Materials and Methods: All abstracts accepted for presentation at a TAOMS meeting between 2007 and 2009 were identified from a book of abstracts and were searched for publication using PubMed and Google Scholar. The following variables were evaluated: publication rate, type of presentation (oral or poster), time to publication, subspecialty, study design, and name of the journal in which the article was published. Results: A total of 478 abstracts were presented at the TAOMS meetings between 2007 and 2009. Of these, 140 abstracts (29.3%) were subsequently published in peer-reviewed journals, including 38.2% of oral presentations and 26.6% of poster presentations. The mean time from presentation to publication was 22 months. Regarding publication fields, research and emerging technologies presentations had the highest publication rate (100%). With regard to study type, animal study (70.0%) and basic research (55.0%) had the highest publication rates. Conclusion: Only 29.3% of abstracts presented at the TAOMS meeting were subsequently published as full-text articles. This rate was found to be similar to the previously reported publication rates in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.

The Effects of Instructional Strategy for Development of Constructivist-Thinking Ability in Earth Science (지구과학에서 구성주의적 사고력 신장을 위한 수업전략의 효과)

  • This study is aiming to structure progressive instructional strategy for development of constructivist-thinking into the beginning stage, developmental stage, and advanced stage, then organize multiple choice, completion, descriptive, and essay problems to be suitable for each stage of the strategy, and finally, to evaluate what effects this instructional strategy has on the students' academic achievements and enhancement of their scientific essay writing skills. The results of the study are as follows. First, lessons applying the strategy for developing constructivist-thinking were more effective in enhancing student' academic achievement than the text book-oriented lecture type lessons. In changes in academic achievement, the test group, for both high and low levels, displayed a higher average than the control group, however, changes in the high level was not statistically significant and changes in the low level students were found to be statistically significant. Second, scientific essay writing skills were found to be effective in all levels of the test group and the averages in both high and low groups of the test group were higher than those of the control group and were also found to be statistically significant.

An Investigation of Elementary School Teachers학 Conceptions on Buoyancy (부력 개념에 관한 초등학교 교사들의 이해도 조사)

  • Elementary school teachers' understandings about buoyancy were investigated through the questionnaire method. The questionnaire was composed of 4 questions on hydraulic pressure and 8 questions on buoyancy. The questions on buoyancy asked about the correlation of buoyancy with following basic concepts, density of liquid, volume of submerged object and so forth. 295 teachers on the 22 elementary schools in Busan, Yangsan and Gimhae were selected through random sampling method. The results of this study were summarized as follows: On the correlation of the magnitude and direction of hydraulic pressure with the depth of water, a large portion of the respondents had a scientific conception. But on the correlation of hydraulic pressure with density, the relatively small portion of them appeared to have a scientific conception. The respondents, on the whole, had a scientific conception about the correlation of buoyancy with density of liquid. But they seemed to have naive conceptions about the correlation of buoyancy with the volume of a submerged object and with the depth of water, the amount of water in container and the reduced amount of water by the object from container. We found that the respondents were context dependent and tended to search for solutions for the questions of buoyancy using the concept of pressure in the water. From above results, we suggested that in the would-be revised elementary science text book, the contents of pressure in the water should be introduced after the concept of weight in the water was gained.

  • ${\ulcorner}$Sanghanlonju Taeyangpyun(傷寒論注 太陽篇)${\lrcorner}$ is a part of ${\ulcorner}$Uijonggumgam(醫宗金鑑)${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Ui jong gum gam${\lrcorner}$ is a voluminous medical book. That was complied by O gyum(吳謙) who was a chief of Taeuiwon(太醫院). In this paper, I speculated O gyum's annotations and compared other annotations in some parts, needed a comparing. O gyum's academic features, appeared in ${\ulcorner}$Sanghanlon ju Taeyangpyun${\lrcorner}$ are as follow. O gyum understood the Taeyang(太陽) as a meaning of Gyounglak(經絡), and explained that the Taeyang part disease arose from a pathologic course of Banggwanggyong(膀胱經). He maintained The Samgangjeonglip(三綱鼎立) theory and restructrured the text order in his own way. He fixed the contents of ${\ulcorner}$Sanghanlon(傷寒論)${\lrcorner}$ to accommodate his medical view. And then he compared and distinguished similar diseases or prescriptions necessary to division clinically. And then about issues of long standing in study of San han lon, he showed his own opinions. Finally, remarking many other commentator's theory, he tried to understand Taeyangpyun(太陽篇).

Development of the Convergent Education Service with the Application Type of the Textbook Development Tool and Class Management System (애플리케이션형 텍스트북 제작툴과 수업관리시스템의 융합형 교육서비스 개발방안)

  • It is the concept of this paper to build up the convergence type of the total class service system, and the goal is to develop the education services, which are differentiated from existing digital textbooks and development tools. We establish developmental programs and convergence strategies from market analyses related to apps and digital education. Then this paper proposes 'E-Class Author Service System (ECA)' as an education service system based on the tablet PC. It is the convergence system of the app type of textbook development tool and class management system. Teachers can produce and develop class materials and textbooks using the app type of textbook development tool in ECA service system. They can also add necessary functions from the class management system for efficient class progress. ECA improves the interaction and communication between a teacher, student and parents in the sever-based network. This study expects that ECA will achieve prior occupation of the app market as an educational app development tool and reduce private education expenses.

A Study of Disambiguation Method To Improve The Syntactic Analysis System (구문 분석의 결과로 나타나는 구조의 모호성을 해결하기 위한 방법 연구)

  • In this paper, we present a Korean syntactic analysis system which can generate all possible syntactic trees in a given sentence. Therefore, the number of syntactic trees by this syntactic analysis system can be increased exponentially. To solve this problem, we suggest a segmentation method and maximum connected unit in a segmentation. Maximum connected unit is a combined unit which contains all morphemes in a segmentation. According to the input sentence, it is possible one or more maximum connected unit in a segmentation. We extract 516 sentences to experiment randomly from the text book of Korean middle school. We could reduce about 28% of the number of syntactic trees.

The Effects of Earth System Education Using Multimedia on Elementary School Student's Environmental Sensitivity and Pro-environmental Behavior (멀티미디어를 활용한 지구계 수업이 초등학생들의 환경민감도 및 환경 친화적 행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of Earth System Education using multimedia on the elementary school students' environmental sensitivity and pro-environmental behavior. To verify this research problem, the subject of this study was fifth-grade students selected from two classes of M elementary school located in Busan city. For three months, the experimental group of 25 students was taught using multimedia. The comparison group also of 26 students was taught in normal classes which used a text-book. All students were given pre and post test to verify the effects of Earth System Education using multimedia on elementary school student's environmental sensitivity and pro-environmental behavior. The results from this study are as the following. First, Earth System Education using multimedia were effective on elementary school student's environmental sensitivity. Second, Earth System Education using multimedia were effective on elementary school student's pro-environmental behavior. Third, All most all experimental students were satisfied with Earth System Education using multimedia. In conclusion, Earth System Education using multimedia showed very positive effects on improvement of elementary school students' environmental sensitivity and pro-environmental behavior.

The Origin of Newton's Generalized Binomial Theorem (뉴턴의 일반화된 이항정리의 기원)

  • In this paper we investigate how Newton discovered the generalized binomial theorem. Newton's binomial theorem, or binomial series can be found in Calculus text books as a special case of Taylor series. It can also be understood as a formal power series which was first conceived by Euler if convergence does not matter much. Discovered before Taylor or Euler, Newton's binomial theorem must have a good explanation of its birth and validity. Newton learned the interpolation method from Wallis' famous book ${\ll}$Arithmetica Infinitorum${\gg}$ and employed it to get the theorem. The interpolation method, which Wallis devised to find the areas under a family of curves, was by nature arithmetrical but not geometrical. Newton himself used the method as a way of finding areas under curves. He noticed certain patterns hidden in the integer binomial sequence appeared in relation with curves and then applied them to rationals, finally obtained the generalized binomial sequence and the generalized binomial theorem.

Effects of STS Program on Environmental Education (STS 프로그램이 중학생들의 환경 문제에 대한 태도와 학업 성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • The development of science and technology not only improved the quality of life of human being, but also brought about environmental problems. Consequently, consensus has been established that early environmental education for youngsters is critical for the preservation of clean environment. A conventional way of teaching has not been very effective for changing their attitude and behavior regarding environmental problems. STS program, which has been one of the major trend in science education, intends to teach science through everyday experience rather than knowledge. This study purports to examine the effectiveness of STS program on environmental problems compared to conventional teaching method. Six week program was developed and applied to subchapter 'Environmental Pollutions & Our Lives' of 3rd grade middle school science text book. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. 1. STS program was significantly effective in changing students' attitude(p<.001). It was effective not only changing their thinking but also changing their behavior. 2. There was no difference between the STS program and conventional teaching method in improving students' knowledge(p>.05). 3. The correlation between the level of knowledge achievement and the attitude on environment was very low(r=.0564,p>.05).
