The Relationship between Domain Switching and Acoustic Emission in (Pb,La)$TiO_3$ Ferroelectric Ceramacs ((Pb,La)$TiO_3$ 강유전체 세라믹에서 분역반전과 Acoustic Emission의 관계)

  • The relationship between domain switching and acoustic emission (AE) during poling was investigated using the tetragonal ferroelectric ceramics with composition of (Pb,La)TiO3+0.01MnO2 The amount of AE generation during poling increased with increasing dc electric field and raising temperature. It was confirmed that the change of the amount of AE generation with poling condition resulted from the difference of the amount of 90$^{\circ}$ domain switching and total amount of AE generation for 10 minutes was approximately proportional to the amount of 90$^{\circ}$domain switching. The A generations of two specimens which have different tetragonality rations(c/s rations) 15 at% and 24at% La-doped were also investigated. The sample with c/a ratio of 1.012 where 90$^{\circ}$ domains are dominate had larger amount of AE generation and 90$^{\circ}$ domain switching compared with the sample with c/a ratio of 1.004 where 180$^{\circ}$ domains are dominant.

  • The dielectric and piezoelectric properties of 0.36Pb($Sc_{1/2}Nb_{1/2}$)$O_{3}$-0.25Pb($Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3}$)$O_{3}$-0.39Pb$TiO_{3}$ (hereafter PSNNT) at the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) composition were investigated with $0{\sim}2.5$ mot% $MnO_{2}$ doping. Bulk density, dielectric loss and tetragonality of crystal structure were all improved with increasing $MnO_{2}$ additive content. With increasing $MnO_{2}$ additive content, the electromechanical coupling factor and quality factor were also increased: Electromechanical coupling $k_{p}$ and quality factor $Q_{m}$ at 2.0 mol% $MnO_{2}$ doping with were showed highest values of 55.6 % and 252, respectively.

La doping into $Pb(Zr,\;Ti)O_{3}$ capacitors on domain structures

  • The ferroelectric domain variation and electrical performance of $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_{3}$ (PZT) based capacitors through La additions were systematically studied. La substitution up to 10 % was performed to lower the coercive and saturation voltages of epitaxial ferroelectric capacitors grown on Si using a (Ti_{0.9}Al_{0.1})N/Pt$ conducting barrier composite. Ferroelectric capacitors substituted with 10 % La show significantly lower coercive voltage compared to capacitors with 0 % and 3 % La. This is attributed to a systematic microstructure change into $180^{\circ}C$ domain and decrease in the tetragonality (i.e., c/a ratio) of the ferroelectric phase. These capacitors show promise as storage elements in low power memory architectures.

  • Effect of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 on low temperature sinteirng and dielectric property of BaTiO3 ceramics has been investigated. For the specimen sintered at 110$0^{\circ}C$, it was densified to 96% of BaTiO3 theoretical density by the addition of 1.0-1.25w/o Bi2O3/Li2CO3. Maximum dielectric constant increased and Curie temperature lowered with the increase of Bi2O3/Li2CO3 content, which probably can be explained by thne substitution of Bi3+, Li1+ on BaTiO3 lattice. The volatilization of Li1+, resulting from the increase of soaking time at 110$0^{\circ}C$ leads to the increase of Curie temperature and tetragonality of the specimen.

  • The effects of rapid solidification and Cr addition to the microstructure variations of the rapid solidified Ti-48Al-xCr(X = 2,4,6) alloys have been investigated using X-ray diffractometry, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The segregated coarse ${\gamma}$ phase was eliminated and the microstructure was refined by rapid solidification of the cooling rate of $10^4-10^6\;^{\circ}C/sec$. The lattice parameters and tetragonality of ${\gamma}$ phase decrease with the increase Cr content and by the rapid solidification. Non-equilibrium phase ${\alpha}$ remains at room temperature condition, which would be resulted from the restriction of phase transformation ${\alpha}$ to ${\alpha}_2+{\gamma}$.

Fracture Behavior and Degradation of Piezoelectric Properties in PZT (PZT의 파괴거동 및 압전 열화특성)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the change in compressive strength, freacture behavior and degradation of piezoelectric properties with compressive cyclic loading in Pb(Zr, Ti)O3 of tetragonal, morphotropic phase boundary and rhombohedral composition. The highest compressive strength was found in rhombohedral composition. After poling treatment the strength increased by 8.4% and 6.5% in tetragonal and morphotropic phase boundary compositions respectively while changed little in rhombohedral. The increase of compressive strength after poling treatment is believed to be due to the internal stress around grain boundary by domain alginment toward electric field direction in the microstructures having tetragonality and the occurrence of domain switching to the direction perpendicular to electrical field during fracture. Fracture mode relatively change from transgranular to intergranular was observed in the large grain sized tetragonal and morphotropic phase boundary compositions before and after poling but the transgranular fracture mode always remained in the rhombohedral composition. From the X-ray diffractometer analysis the domains parallel to the electric field direction is known to undergo rearrangement during the cyclic loading into random direction that is responsible for the degradation of piezoelectric property.

  • The effects of Pb5Ge3O11 on the sinterbility and lattice variation of the semiconducting 0.15 mol% Y2O3 doped BaTiO3 have been investigated as functions of additive contents (from 0.25 mol% to 2.5 mol%) and sintering temperatures (from 110$0^{\circ}C$ to 130$0^{\circ}C$). As the amount of Pb5Ge3O11 increases, the sinterbility of BaTiO3 increases abruptly at around 115$0^{\circ}C$. During the sintering, the most of Pb+2 ions in additives penetrate into BaTiO3 lattices and Ge+4 ions present at grain boundaries. Therefore the c lattice of the BaTiO3 increases largely and then the tetragonality increases due to the diffusion of the Pb+2 ions.

Magnetic and Ordering Behavior of Nb-doped FePt Alloy Films

  • The magnetic properties and ordering behavior of Nb-doped FePt alloy films prepared by dc-magnetron sputtering were investigated. It was found that Nb addition retarded the ordering reaction from the disordered face-centered-cubic (fcc) Al phase to the ordered face-centered-tetragonal (fct) L10 phase. The tetragonality (c/a ratio) of the ordered fct L10 phase increased with the Nb concentration. Nb addition hampered c-axis contraction during ordering, probably because the larger Nb atoms occupy Pt sites. Consequently, the coercivity and magnetocrystalline anisotropic energy of Nb-doped FePt alloy films are lower than those of un-doped FePt film under equivalent annealing conditions.

  • In this paper, the electrical and dielectrical properties were investigated in Pb(Zr,Ti)O$_3$-Pb(Mn,Nb)O$_3$ ceramics which are manufactured with the substitution of Ba in site Pb. In older to increase the del and Kp , Ba was substitued to site Pb from 0 to 0.1 by 0.02 mol%. As the Ba substitution is increased, dielectric constant is increased and electricmachanical coupling factor showed the maximum value at Ba 0.06mol% and the mechanical qualify factor is decreased and the tetragonality and the grain size are decreased as the Ba substitution.

  • 본 연구에서 xPb(A $l_{0.5}$N $b_{0.5}$) $O_{3}$-(1-x)Pb(Z $r_{0.52}$ $Ti_{o.48}$) $O_{3}$계의 조성변화에 따른 유전 및 압전특성에 관해 실험한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. PAN의 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 c축은 수축되고 a축은 팽창하여 tetragonality는 감소하였고 grain의 크기와 Curie온도 또한 PAN의 첨가량에 따라 감소하였으나 밀도와 유전상수는 PAN의 양이 5mol%까지 증가하다가 그 이상에서는 감소하는 경향을 보였다. PAN의 첨가량이 증가함에 따라 시편의 비저항은 증가하였고 Kp는 PAN의 양이 5mol%첨가시 60%로 최대치를 보였으나 Qm은 최소치를 나타내었다.다.
