  • The purpose of this research is to evaluate teachers' perception of Korean's achievement standard-based testing system (ASTS) and its process of implementation, and to propose a method of evaluating students' academic aptitude based on university entrance examinations. The core of the 2015 Revised National Curriculum is asserted by changes in classroom instruction, specifically encouraging students' participation in class based on a new method to evaluate student achievement. A total of 124 teachers in charge of student career counseling in middle and high schools in the Jeonbuk province participated in the study. The schools implementing the new method of ASTS were using 61.6% for unit school cut-off point, as opposed to the existing fixed cut-off point of 38.4%. The teachers understanding of the achievement evaluation method was rated 3.54 on the 5-point Likert scale, implying that they had a relatively good understanding of the method. Some of the challenges associated with reflecting the scores from the new student ASTS include difficulty of comparing scores across schools; grade inflation; advantages and disadvantages associated with the type of high school; and the increased importance of university entrance examination. In the ASTS, the fairness during the evaluation of the high school grades and the consequently the reliability of the evaluation prove worrying. As an ultimate result, selecting students based on university admissions data became untrustworthy. There should be further discussions on how students' achievement obtained from the new ASTS should be applied during the university admission process and how students' academic aptitude can be assessed in order to set a direction for secondary school education.

  • Computer-aided high frequency ultrasonic is applied to aluminum oxide(85w%, 94w%, 96w%, and 99w%) MOR(modulus of rupture) samples to evaluate mechanical properties such as density variation, pore content, elastic modulus, shear modulus, and poisson's ratio. Ultrasonic wave velocity and attenuation measurement techniques were used as an evaluator of such properties. Pulse-echo C-Scan images with different fate setting method using 50MHz center frequency 1 inch focal length transducer allows evaluation of density variation and pore content. Elastic modulus calculated with the relation of density and ultrasonic velocity. It shows good reliability as compared with resonance method. Sintered density variation of $0.025g/cm^{3}$, that is 0.6% of theoretical density in $Al_{2}O_{3}$ samples can be observed by ultrasonic velocity measurement. Attenuation measurement method qualitatively agree with 4-point fracture testing result concerning of porosity content.

  • In order to evaluate the corrosion of reinforcing steel-bars (rebar) in concrete, a nondestructive evaluation by the half-cell potential method is currently applied. In this study, potentials measured on a concrete surface are compensated into those on the concrete-rebar interface by the inverse boundary element method (IBEM). Because these potentials are obtained three-dimensionally (3-D), 3-D visualization is desirable. To this end, a visualization system has been developed by using VRML (Virtual Reality Modeling Language). As an application, results of a reinforced concrete (RC) slab with corroded rebars are visualized and discussed.

  • In this study, a usability evaluation tool was developed for "ICANDUINO", a VR-based mobile application for maker education, and usability evaluation was conducted with a heuristic survey method for experts. The usability evaluation tool was derived through literature review and validated by two experts. It consisted of seven domains (effectiveness, efficiency, satisfaction, learnability, memorability, error, and cognitive load) and twenty-five sub-items. As a result of the usability evaluation conducted for six experts, it received the highest score in the domain of efficiency and the lowest score in the domain of error. The improvements of ICANDUINO were derived by analyzing the qualitative opinions of experts in each of the four stages (training, coding, tinkering, and testing) of making. the results of this study can be used as a guideline when evaluating the usability of a mobile app for education.

  • In the present work, ultrasonic testing method has been developed to evaluate adhesive layers in rocket motor case assembly for the reliability of the rocket. The main objective of the present work was to find debonding between steel and rubber layers. The relationship between adhesion ratio and reflected ultrasonic amplitude was calculated by considering reflection coefficient at the interface between steel and rubber layers. It was found that the higher amplitude of ultrasound is reflected for the debonding area, and shown good agreements with experimental results. The ultrasonic C-scan images offers good implements for the determination of debonding area. The nondestructive testing results were compared with the micrography of destruective testing. As results, ultrasonic testing could be utilized for the evaluation of adhesive layer in the rocket motor case assembly.

  • This paper reports an effort to develop 3D tooth visualization system from CT sequence images as a part of the non-destructive evaluation suitable for the simulation of endodontics, orthodontics and other dental treatments. We focus on the segmentation and visualization for the individual tooth. In dental CT images teeth are touching the adjacent teeth or surrounded by the alveolar bones with similar intensity. We propose an improved level set method with shape prior to separate a tooth from other teeth as well as the alveolar bones. Reconstructed 3D model of individual tooth based on the segmentation results indicates that our technique is a very conducive tool for tooth visualization, evaluation and diagnosis. Some comparative visualization results validate the non-destructive function of our method.

  • An experimental method denoted as Impulse Method is proposed as a cost-effective non-destructive technique for the on-site evaluation of concrete elastic modulus in existing structures: on the basis of Hertz's quasi-static theory of elastic impact and with the aid of a simple portable testing equipment, it makes it possible to collect series of local measurements of the elastic modulus in an easy way and in a very short time. A Hypothesis Testing procedure is developed in order to provide a statistical tool for processing the data collected by means of the Impulse Method and assessing the possible occurrence of significant variations in the elastic modulus without exceeding some prescribed error probabilities. It is based on a particular formulation of the renowned sequential probability ratio test and reveals to be optimal with respect to the error probabilities and the required number of observations, thus further improving the time-effectiveness of the Impulse Method. The results of an experimental investigation on different types of plain concrete prove the validity of the Impulse Method in estimating the unknown value of the elastic modulus and attest the effectiveness of the proposed Hypothesis Testing procedure in identifying significant variations in the elastic modulus.

Methods: Considering the industrial characteristics of Korea, the electrical and electronic test and certification field was selected as the research subject. As a research method, various factors were extracted through exploratory research such as theoretical considerations on the competitiveness of testing and certification bodies and analysis of the growth process of global testing and certification bodies, and focused interviews and surveys were conducted with conformity assessment experts. Results: The 16 factors affecting the global competitiveness of testing and certification institutions were identified. Among the 4 PEST factors, the technological factor had the highest importance, followed by the economic factor, the social factor, and the political factor. The average of the 16 factors was 0.0625, and the 8 factors above the average included 4 technological factors, 3 economic factors, and 1 social factor, but did not include political factors. The factor with the greatest weight was Standardization Capability for Testing & Certification 0.105. Conclusion: It can be used to evaluate the global competitiveness level of domestic testing and certification bodies using evaluation indicators and to establish strategies for strengthening global competitiveness.
