  • An a priori test has been conducted for the dynamic mixed model which was generalized for the prediction of passive scalar field in a turbulent channel flow The results from a priori tests indicated that dynamic mixed model is capable of predicting both subgrid-scale heat flux and dissipation rather accurately. The success is attributed to the explicitly calculated resolved term incorporated into the model. The actual test of the model in a LES a posteriori showed that dynamic mixed model is superior to the widely used dynamic Smagorinsky model in the prediction of temperature statistics.

  • This paper describes a human driver model developed based on finite preview optimal control method. The human driver steering model is constructed to minimize a performance index which is a quadratic form of lateral position error, yaw angle error and steering input. Simulation studies are conducted using a vehicle simulation software, Carsim. The Carsim vehicle model is validated using vehicle test data. In order to validate the human driving steering model, the human driver steering model is compared to the driving data on a virtual test track(VTT) and the actual vehicle test data. It is shown that human driver steering behaviors can be well represented by the human driver steering model presented in this paper

  • Seismic performances of the base isolated model of Five Story Stone Pagoda were studied through shaking table tests. Friction pendulum system (FPS), Pure-friction system with laminated rubber bearing (LRB) and Ball with rubber bearing were selected fur the comparison of performances. Performances of specially designed isolation systems were tested dynamically using shaking table. The test results of isolated model are compared with those of fixed base model. Compared with fixed base model, the isolated model showed that it could withstand much higer intensity of earthquake motion. The Effective Peak Ground Acceleration (EPGA) value of isolated model when the top component tipped over was above twice of that value in case of fixed base model. According to the additional test results, the lower value of coefficient of friction than that of common frictional base isolation systems is more effective to protect the piled multi-block system of Pagoda against moderate intesity of ground motion.

  • In this study, a mathematical model fur analyzing the shift characteristics is proposed. The proposed model comprises power transmission system and vehicle system, which are coupled. And On-road car test is carried out in order to extract model parameters. Tile model is composed of a detailed powertrain, an engine/AT housing, a simplified suspension system. tires and a vehicle body model. On the test, the vehicle accelerations and pitch ratio are measured by using accelerometers and gyro sensor. The other data, for example speeds, a throttle position and a brake signal, are taken from sensors which already exist in the vehicle. Using natural frequency and characteristic equation, vehicle model parameters are extracted from experimental data.

  • The aim of the work described in this paper is to develope a constitutive model for the prediction of an unsaturated soil and to confirm the application'of the model, which is composed of the elastic and plastic part in consideration of the matric suction and the net mean stress. From test results, volume changes and deviator stresses are analyzed at each state and their relationships are formulated. The application of the model to silty sands is confirmed by the comparison between test and predicted results. During drying -wetting and loading -unloading processes for isotropic states, the agreement between predicted and test results are satisfactory. Predicted deviator stresses are well agreed with test results in shearing process. Overall acceptable predictions are reproduced in high confining pressure. Usefulness of the model is confirmed for the unsaturated soil except volumetric strain, which is not well agreed with the test results due to deficiency of dilatancy of the model in low confining pressure. It is, therefore. recommended to study the behavior of dilatancy for an unsaturated soil.

  • This paper presents the results of prediction of maneuverability of KCS about 4 degree of freedom(DOF) including roll motion. The prediction is carried out by CPMC captive model test. The CPMC(Computerized Planar Motion Carriage) with captive model test equipment including roll moment gage is installed at Ocean Engineering Tank of MOERI. KCS is the container ship open to the world by MOERI. To predict the 4 DOF maneuverability of a ship some tests with roll angle are conducted. And the prediction results of maneuverability by simulation are compared with the results of free running model test. The simulation results agree well with those of free running model tests.

  • In this study, Injection rate tests of a Diesel common-rail injector have been performed with injection volume measurement type injection rate test system EMI21 for construction of injector model can be used in an engine calibration mean valued model. The measuring principle of the test system is based on measurement of dispalcement of a movable measurement piston by the volume of fluid released by the injector. From these injection rate test results, the characteristics on shape of instantaneous injection rate and injection fuel amount have been investigated and injection fuel amount calculation equation based on test results has been newly constructed. This equation is very simple and calculation error is less than 5% with test results for wide range injection pressure (200~1800 bar) and injection duration ($200{\sim}1800{\mu}s$) conditions. So, it is anticipated that newly constructed simple injection fuel amount model in this study can be efficiently used on engine calibration and control model.

  • A model test is carried out to investigate flow-induced vibration of a Tainter gate in estuary sulices. The gate model scaled with the ratio of 1:25 is made of acryl panel dimensioned 0.66m in width, 0.5m in height in the concrete test flume. Firstly, natural frequencies of the model gate are measured and the results are compared with the numerical results in order to verify the model. The amplitudes of the vibration are measured under the different gate opening and water level conditions in flow from the gate outside to the gate inside. Also 5 revised gate models with bottom width increased 0.5 cm each are tested under the different gate opening and water level. The results are analyzed to study the characteristics of the gate vibration. These test results are assessed in comparison with formerly test results, as a result, presents a design method of Tainter gate to reduce the gate vibration and a basic data for the guide manuals of gate management.

  • A turbine control system which has been operated for years in a nuclear power plant was retrofitted with a newly developed digital control system. After completion of the retrofit, turbine valve tests were performed to ensure the integrity of each valve's control function. The sequence of each valve test is composed of a closing process and a reopening process. To minimize megawatt variation which normally occurs during the test sequence, we employed a kind of compensator algorithm in the new digital control system which also have been used in the old system. There were difficulties finding optimal parameter settings for our new compensator algorithm because the power plant didn't allow us to perform necessary tuning procedures while the turbine is on load operation. Therefore an alternative measure for the compensator tuning which is independent of the turbine actual operation had to be implemented. So, a process model for the test was required to overcome this situation. We analyzed the operation data of the test and implemented the process model by use of input and output variable relations. Also we verified the process model by use of another condition's operating data. The result shows that the output of model is similar to the actual operation data.

  • This study is concerned with the development of the basic planing hull form of small fishing boat in 25 knots high speed. A series of model test to determine the optimum performance hull form of actual fishing boat with 10 gross tonnage was carried out for 5 models made available planing hull form in the circulation water channel. Model test was performed with the resistance test to study the hydrodynamic characteristics of model ships and the sinkage and trim measurement to investigate the stability of model ships and also the wave pattern observation to analyze the effectiveness of model ships. As the result, the planing hull form of P-4 with deep V type bow can be derived as the best hull form with good performance especially in ship's resistance efficiency showing less residual resistance and sinkage and trim and the spray effect, etc..
