  • The explosive growth of the internet-based transactions requires not only a secure payment system but also an appropriate trust measuring methodology and secure transaction protocols to guarantee the minimal risk for the transacting entities involved in specific transactions. Especially, in internet auction systems where either buyers or sellers or both can be more than one in one transaction, providing those systems that make sure no one transacting entity takes a major risk becomes critical. In this paper, an improved trust measuring method using a relationship-based internet community for an auction system is proposed. The proposed system incorporates fuzzy set and calculation concepts to help build trust matrices and models, which is used to measure the level of risk involved in a specific auction trade concerned. Also, to optimize the auction trade process in terms of cost and time, the proposed system recommends a differentiated trade protocol according to the risk level involved in each auction trade. To test the appropriateness of the proposed trusted auction system, a prototype system has been developed under a Windows-NT environment.

  • Purpose - The bank payment obligation is a transaction method that combines the certainty of L/C transactions with the speed of remittance payments, so the main purpose of this study is to highlight the superiority of bank payment obligation, noting the difference between bank payment obligation and L/C transactions. In addition, we would like to examine how bank payment obligations can actually be applied to support various valuable proposals such as post-shipment and post-shipment finance according to the payment process.. Design/methodology - This study focused on literature based on data from ICC and SWIFT along with previous domestic and international studies. In terms of a research method, a literature review was adopted with electronic trade-related books and journals and policy-related reports from international trade-related agencies. Findings - Unlike L/C transaction, BPO transaction verify the data inquiry process based only on the combination result of the established baseline and dataset. Accordingly, it is superior to L/C transaction in that there is no confrontation between the parties over the results of the inquiry, and clear transactions are possible according to the principle of proof after prepayment. In addition, unlike credit transactions, data inconsistency acceptance procedures confirm payment obligations in consideration of importers' intentions. As a result, as long as trade documents are in the hands of exporting countries, flexible document disposition is possible in response to the situation after payment, which is more advantageous than L/C transaction. Originality/value - Specifically, from the importer's point of view, BPO transactions have the advantage of reducing the manpower required to prepare and review trade documents and processing transaction negotiations with exporters advantageously due to the strength of payment obligations. From the perspective of the exporter, it has the advantage of enabling rapid recovery of trade payments and reducing the risk of importer's cancellation of transactions or content change. From the perspective of participating banks, it is possible to strengthen relations with importer and obtain high commission income by increasing the role of bank reduced by reducing L/C transaction.

  • The goal of this study is to forecast the scales of seaborne trade of iron ore and coal. It is assumed that the seaborne trade of iron ore is the function of two independent variables(crude steel production, world GDP) and the seaborne trade of coal is the function of two independent variables(crude steel production, world electricity generation). The result shows that the regressions of two functions are statistically significant respectively. As the results of forecasting, the seaborne trade of iron ore in 2010 may be 892 million tons which is increased 5.1% compare to the level of 2009. Also the seaborne trade of coal in 2010 may be 827 million tons which is increased 6.1% compare to the level of 2009. In terms of the compound annual growth rate, it is forecasted that the iron ore may show 4.7% of increasing rate from 2009 to 2015 and the seaborne trade of coal may be increased 6.1% annually for the same period.

  • The purposes of the study is to evaluate the discrepancy between user's expectation and satisfaction degree in the service of uTradeHub. In this regard, this study infers general solutions in order to induce the intersection area using IPA technique. Then this paper will present directions to improve the service of uTradeHub. In terms of methodology, this article disclosed that IPA model approach is greatly useful to evaluate user's attribute. First, variables like the link of different works(f1), trust of system(f4), information connection(f7) are located on the first quadrant. This means that importance and satisfaction are all high variables for user. So, this is very important variables that need continuous administration in order to maintain present state. Second, variables such as the speed of information acquisition(f2), improvement of use(f3), stability of system(f5) are located on the second quadrant. This means that user's importance is high but user's satisfaction is low. Therefore, this area needs an active improvement strategy and quick maintenance for e-Trade application. Third, variables like the appropriateness of information usage fees(f8), easy subscription(f9), customer support service(f10) are located on the third quadrant. Because these variables are all low for user's importance and satisfaction, we have to arrange strong and radical remedy for e-Trade service. Finally, variables like information offer(f6) are located on the fourth quadrant. This means that user's satisfaction is high but user's importance is low. The research result suggests that e-Trade service development would be re-organised as much as user feels the importance of process innovation.

  • The increase in assertive and unilateral measures represents a key feature of the recent global trade environment. Against this backdrop, the EU is pushing to introduce the so-called "anti-coercion instrument(the instrument)," which aims to allow unilateral countermeasures in the event of economic coercion or threats from third countries. This paper examines the recent assertive trade environment and the legislative background of the instrument. It evaluated the necessity of and concerns arising from the instrument by comparing the existing EU trade policy, i.e., Trade Barrier Regulation (TBR). In addition, the paper aims to analyze the permissibility of the instrument under the WTO system, especially in the context of the principle of "strengthening of the multilateral system." Finally, the paper draws implications of the instrument in terms of our domestic policies that can effectively address economic threats or trade friction in the growing geopolitical crisis.

  • This study aims to derive policy implications by analyzing the experiences of Korean ICT startups that participated in the government's online export and trade consultation platform, designed to support ICT startups' overseas expansion during the COVID-19 pandemic. The research methodology involved the analysis of semi-structured, in-depth interviews with six startups who participated in an online export and trade consultation platform, using Giorgi's phenomenological methodology. The analysis resulted in the identification of ten subcategories, including two subcategories for each of the five categories. These categories and subcategories offer a comprehensive understanding of the experiences of ICT startups in navigating the online export and trade counseling platforms. The findings suggest that online export and trade consultation platforms for ICT startups offer efficiency benefits by reducing time and space constraints, but they also reveal limitations in terms of practical business continuity. This study holds academic and practical significance by providing insights into how ICT startups navigate online export and trade counseling platforms during the pandemic.

  • China and Korea have interacted with each other for 20 years since 1992 when China and Korea established diplomatic relations. During this period, the trade and investment between two countries have increased rapidly. In addition to the enhancement of economic cooperation and the expansion of personal exchange, the relationship between two countries was upgraded to mutual strategic cooperative relationship in 2008 from the 1 friendly and cooperative relations and the economic exchange and cooperation were largely expanded. In this paper, the current situation and characteristics of the trade between China and Korea were figured out. In order to find out the development direction of China and Korea trade, through empirical analysis, the correlation of decisive factors that influence the trade amount of these two countries were analyzed. In terms of dependent variables for the empirical analysis, the trade amount between China and Korea was considered. While the GDP of these countries, the direct investment amount of two countries and the openness of external trade of these countries were considered as independent variables. The degree of economic freedom of these countries was set as policy variable. According to the analysis results, when the GDP of China and Korea is getting higher, there is positive influence on the trade amount of China and Korea. It is showed that the direct investment of Korea has positive influence on the trade amount of China and Korea. Meanwhile, there is negative influence of China's direct investment on the trade amount. When the degree of freedom of these countries is getting higher, the influence of trade amount was showed significantly. Furthermore, when the economic freedom of these countries is getting higher, the insignificant things about trade amount of China and Korea were extracted as insignificant.

  • This study examines how the difference in trade openness across manufacturing industries in Korea affects firm's employment strategies and industrial relations, utilizing the Korean establishment panel data. In terms of firm's employment strategy, it is found that trade openness is not associated with a particular employment strategy such as labor cost saving strategy or innovation strategy. This result is consistent with the previous findings that trade liberalization merely affects wages and employment. Moreover, this result disproves, at least for the Korean manufacturing, a general belief that when the domestic market is opened to foreign competition, firms will adopt and rely on labor cost saving strategy intensely. The obtained result concerning the relationship between trade openness and industrial relations is more interesting and informative. It is found that trade openness is positively associated with cooperative industrial relations. Furthermore, the positive relationship is reenforced when the establishment is unionized. This implies that management and union cooperate when they are faced with increased foreign competition as a result of trade liberalization.

  • Purpose - In this study, we aim to explore new distribution strategies for sustainable growth in the era of the 4th industrial revolution, focusing on SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in Korea, and suggest ways to upgrade the government's official distribution channel to the next level. Design/methodology - First of all, this paper explored the prior research, the current status of sales support for SMEs, and the changes in the distribution industry due to COVID-19 pandemic. Based on Moon (2016)'s ABCD strategic model - Agility, Benchmarking, Convergence, and Dedication, the study then derived directions in which official distribution channels should move and the new distribution strategy for Korean SMEs to secure competitive advantage. Findings - First, in terms of 'Agility', in order to upgrade official distribution channels, which are currently at some competitive disadvantages compared to private distribution companies, we must quickly introduce technologies for the 4th industrial revolution, such as AI, Big Data, etc., and establish precise strategies to strengthen the capabilities of SMEs. Second, in terms of 'Benchmarking', the use of "Chamelezones" has been increasing to enhance the competitiveness of offline stores in line with recent ontact trends. Therefore, official distribution channels should also benchmark such cases, strengthening their competitiveness by utilizing offline spaces more efficiently and effectively. Third, in terms of 'Convergence', in line with the rapidly changing trend of the times, official distribution channels should also promote active partnerships with media commerce, e-commerce and ICT platforms, as well as cooperation with private retailers, and focus on creating synergy effects through them. Finally, from the perspective of 'Dedication', digitalization should be promoted step by step, finding the sector that can accelerate digital among the value chains of official distribution channels, and continuing to discuss how to digitize it realistically. Originality/value - Based on this analysis, we have presented strategies and implications for innovating official distribution channels for SMEs, which will contribute to enhancing the competitive advantage of official distribution channels in the post COVID-19 pandemic era.
