Analytical Modeling for Reinforced Concrete Beam Deflections Using Layered Finite Elements (층상 유한요소를 이용한 철근콘크리트 보의 처짐 해석모델)

  • The use of higher strength materials with the strength methed of design has resulted in more slender member and shallower sections. For this reason, it is necessary to satisfy the requirements of serviceability even though the structural safety is the most important limit state. This paper is only concerned with the control of deflections in the serviceability. In this study, an analytical model is presented to predict the deflections of reinforced concrete beams to given loading and environmental conditions. This model is based on the finite element approach in which a finite element is generally divided into a number of stiffening effect due to cracking, creep and shrinkage. Comparisons are made with available measured deflections reported by others to assess the capability of the layered beam model. The calculated values of instantaneous and long-term deflection show good agreement with experimental results in the range of tension stiffening parameter $\beta$ between 2.5 and 3.0.

  • 해양 산업에서 심해로의 이동은 해양 구조물의 계류 장치의 중요성을 부각시켰고 그에 따른 기본적인 연구로서의 케이블 동력학에 대한 흥미를 일깨웠다. 거친 해상에서 케이블에 형성될 수 있는 큰 동장력과 기하학적 비선형성의 고려는 케이블의 비선형적 거동 해석에 주요 인자가 될 것이다. 또한 매우 큰 동장력 증폭에 의한 음의 큰 동장력은 케이블의 양의 정장력을 초과할 수 있고, 따라서 전체장력은 영 또는 음이 될 수 있다. 비선형 유체 항력을 포함한 모든 비선형성을 갖는 케이블의 이론적 해석 모델을 개발하고, 수치 결과와 기존의 실험 결과를 비교한다.

  • Cable member in structure is tension systems in which the load carrying members transmit loads to support system by tensile stress with no compression or flexure allowed. Cable system have been widely used large span structure roof, air-supported structure, prestressed membrane, cable network roof, suspension structures, guyed tower, ocean platforms, suspension bridges. Cable member can transmit loads by the edge connected system such as socket, swaging, mechanical splice sleave, clip, wedge, loop splice etc. This study will shown an experimental results on the strength of connection socket of cables. In the results of experiment, most of cable connection specimen occurred the failure at the connection socket part before the cable arrived at tensile failure load.

  • This study was performed to verify the effect of axial force due to restraint on the mechanical behavior and the average crack spacing of the reinforced concrett. ilexural menlbers. For. this purpose, the flexural sttvngt.h and rigidity werc experimentally investigated undcl. axially rcstmined and unr.est.rainrd conditions. Furthermore , the average crack spacing was also checkcd for the axilly restrained contlit.ion. Thc test results showd that the flexual strength and rigidity of t,he restrained beam were higher. than those of the unrestrained beam. The major. factors affecting on the average crack spacing were steeel stress, axial force, cicumference of reinforcing bar and effective tension arm of concrete. However. the concrete compressive strength was minor effect. Including thesc factors, a prediction equation for the average crack spacing of the restrained member was proposed.

A Study on Nonlinear Behavior of RC Structure using Different Crack Models (균열모델을 사용한 철근콘크리트 구조물의 비선형거동 해석에 관한 연구)

  • A analysis of crack behavior in RC member was performed by nonlinear finite element method. Two crack models were used in F.E.M.(finite element method): one was FCM (the fixed crack model) and the other was RCM (the rotated crack model). Based on parametric study, the ratio of shear steel, strength of concrete, and a/d(shear span/effective depth) were compared with test results of references. According to the test results, when the member behavior was affected by the shear or diagonal tension, RCM was reasonable. However, when the behavior was affected by the flexibility, FCM was more appropriate. In addition, each crack model behavior for the change of shear steel ratio, the increase of strain energy was constant in FCM, but it was different in RCM because of diagonal crack distribution and crack width. Since the strength of concrete is affected not only by shear but also by flexural strength, each crack model behavior yields similar results.

  • According as the member of the automobile body structure have been thinned their thickness and have become high strength, each part of the body structure has been put more severe stress condition. And, because fatigue strength of the spot welded lap joint is influenced by its geometrical and mechanical factors, welding condition and etc., there needs a quantitative and systematic evaluation method for them. In this study, by considering nugget edge of the spot weld part of the IB-type spot welded lap joint under tension-shear load to the ligament crack. fatigue strength of various IB-type spot welded lap joints was estimated with the stress intensity factor(S.I.F.) KIII which is fracture mechanical parameter. We could find that fatigue strength evaluation of the IB-type spot welded lap joints by KIII is more effective than the maximum principal stress ($\sigma$1max) at edge of the spot weld obtained from FEM analysis.

A numerical tension-stiffening model for ultra high strength fiber-reinforced concrete beams

  • A numerical model that can simulate the nonlinear behavior of ultra high strength fiber-reinforced concrete (UHSFRC) structures subject to monotonic loadings is introduced. Since engineering material properties of UHSFRC are remarkably different from those of normal strength concrete and engineered cementitious composite, classification of the mechanical characteristics related to the biaxial behavior of UHSFRC, from the designation of the basic material properties such as the uniaxial stress-strain relationship of UHSFRC to consideration of the bond stress-slip between the reinforcement and surrounding concrete with fiber, is conducted in this paper in order to make possible accurate simulation of the cracking behavior in UHSFRC structures. Based on the concept of the equivalent uniaxial strain, constitutive relationships of UHSFRC are presented in the axes of orthotropy which coincide with the principal axes of the total strain and rotate according to the loading history. This paper introduces a criterion to simulate the tension-stiffening effect on the basis of the force equilibriums, compatibility conditions, and bond stress-slip relationship in an idealized axial member and its efficiency is validated by comparison with available experimental data. Finally, the applicability of the proposed numerical model is established through correlation studies between analytical and experimental results for idealized UHSFRC beams.

Optimum Design of Truss Structures with Pretension Considering Bucking Constraint (프리텐션을 받는 트러스 구조물의 좌굴을 고려한 최적설계)

  • An under-tension system is frequently employed for large-span structures to reduce the deflection and member size. In this study, a microgenetic algorithm was used to find the optimum cross-section of truss structures with an undertension cable under transverse loading. Maximum deflection, allowable stress, and buckling were considered constraints. The proposed approach was verified using a 10-bar truss sample that shows good agreement with the previous results. In the numerical results, minimum-weight design of the under-tension structure was performed for various magnitudes of pretension.

Studies on the Acoustical Characteristics of Violin Bridges and SDM Simulation (바이올린 브릿지의 음향적 특성 및 SDM 시뮬레이션에 관한 연구)

  • Violin bridge blank cut from maple wood with good quality has typical pattern of the radial direction in the side edge with minimal dispersion. This experimental study was designed and carried out to examine the effect of the physical and macroscopical characteristics on the compressive creep of violin bridge blank which had been imported from European manufacturer. This research arose from the idea that the maple solid wood with heterogeneous wood density and ray direction in the side edge would have uneven rheological property of violin bridge blank which is supposed to be pressed by the tension of strings. Experimentally, the compressive creep of bridge blank became smaller with the higher density of imported maple wood and showed clear density-dependence for the duration of load under the string tension of 5 kgf. Every bridge blank showed the behavior of primary creep stage(stress stabilization) having logarithmic regression creep curve with high correlation coefficient under the designed stress level. Even though the relationship between compressive creep and ray direction on the side edge of bridge was not so clear contrary to expectation, we could conclude that wood density and ray direction should be the quality decisive factors affecting the acoustical characteristics and performance of the bridge, the core member of violin-family bow instruments.

  • In according with concrete structural design standard, it is common designing flexure reinforcement concrete to induce tension failure. So reinforcing ratio is limited to inducing tension failure. And maximum reinforcing ratio is regulated to protecting concrete compression strength caused by over reinforced building. Minimum reinforcing ratio is also limited in designing standard to protecting brittle failure as extremely using less reinforcing bar. But in minimum reinforcing ratio it is extremely conservative or it is sometimes impossible to induce stable tension-failure because they are depending on yield failure and experienced method and concrete designing standard strength. Therefore the purpose of the present paper is to evaluate the flexural behavior of minimum steel ratio of reinforced concrete of beams and to propose the guide-line of equation of minimum steel ratio by performing static flexural test of 16 beams according to size effect, number of steel, yielding stress of steel, and concrete compressive strength which are presumed effective variables. From experimental results, the equation of minimum steel ratio was newly proposed considered size effect.
