The effect of basalt and polypropylene fibers on the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) beams is investigated in this paper. The compressive and tensile behaviors of the basalt concrete and polypropylene concrete cylinders are also investigated. Eight beams and 28 cylinders were made with different percentages of basalt and polypropylene fibers. The dosages of fiber were selected as 0.6%, 1.3%, and 2.5% of the total cement weight. Each type of fiber was mixed solely with the concrete mix. Basalt and polypropylene fibers are modern and cheap materials that can be used to improve the structural behavior of RC members. This research is designed to find the optimum percentage of basalt and polypropylene fibers for enhancing the flexural behavior of RC beams. Test results showed that the addition of basalt and polypropylene fibers in any dosage (0.6%, 1.3%, and 2.5%) can increase the flexural strength and displacement ductility index of the beams where the maximum enhancement was measured with 1.3% fibers. The maximum increments in the flexural strength and the displacement ductility index were 30.39% and 260% for the basalt fiber case, while the maximum improvement for the polypropylene fibers case was 55.5% and 230% compared to the control specimen. Finite element (FE) models were then developed in ABAQUS to predict the numerical behaviour of the tested beams. The FE models were able to predict the experimental behaviour with reasonable accuracy. This research confirms the efficiency of basalt and polypropylene fibers in enhancing the flexural behavior of RC beams, and it also suggests the optimum dosage of fibers.
In the present study, the effect of annealing condition on the microstructures and mechanical properties of the cold-rolled CoCrFeMnNi high entropy alloys were studied. Annealing treatment was performed under six different temperatures. Microstructural analyses confirmed that annealing below 800℃ resulted in the formation of intermetallic sigma (σ) phase within face-centered cubic (FCC) matrix, and this σ phase has beneficial effects on the formation of fine-grained structures through retardation of grain growth and recrystallization due to Zener pinning effect. This led to the enhanced yield strength and tensile strength of ~646 and ~855 MPa, respectively. The microstructures annealed above 800℃ demonstrated single FCC phase, and fully-recrystallized single FCC microstructure resulted in a slight increase in ductility with a considerable decrease in strength. The evolution of mechanical properties, such as strength, ductility, and strain hardening exponent, will be discussed.
The use of cold-formed steel members is increasing day by day, especially in regions where earthquake effects are intensively experienced. Among cold-formed steel members (CFS), "channel" members are used more than other crosssectional members, especially in buildings or industrial structures. In recent years, several studies have been carried out on the axial load and flexural performance of these members under monotonic loading. In this study, CFS beam-column members were cyclically and monotonically loaded under combined axial load and biaxial bending moments, and their buckling behavior, load bearing capacity, stiffness, ductility, and energy absorption capacity were determined. For this purpose, monotonic and cyclic loading experiments were carried out on 30 CFS channel members at 15 different eccentricities. Then, material properties were determined by axial monotonic tensile and very low cycle fatigue tests for use in numerical studies. From the experimental results, the buckling modes, bearing capacities, ductility, stiffness, and energy absorption capacities of the members were obtained. The characteristics of the members were compared according to the stress state of the lips. According to the data obtained from the displacement transducer placed on the lips and on the back of the web, information about the buckling mode and curvature of the members was obtained. Finally, monotonic, and cyclic loading results were compared to determine the differences in the buckling behavior of the members.

Because of the characteristics relating to high tensile ductility, High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites (HPFRCC) are studied to be adopted in repair and retrofit of buildings. A series of three shear wall specimens was tested under constant axial stress and reversed cyclic lateral loading in order to evaluate the seismic retrofit that had been proposed for the shear wall with the opening. The retrofit involved the use of newly developed ECC and MDF(Macro Defect Free), both of which are sprayed through the high pressure pump, over the entire face of the wall. The results indicate that two difference types of retrofitting strategy make the different effects of a rise in the strength and ductility of each specimen.
The imperfect steel-concrete interface bonding is an important deficiency of the concrete-filled double skin tubular (CFDST) columns that led to separating concrete and steel surfaces under lateral loads and triggering buckling failure of the columns. To improve this issue, it is proposed in this study to use longitudinal and transverse steel stiffeners in CFDST columns. CFDST columns with different patterns of stiffeners embedded in the interior or exterior surfaces of the inner or outer tubes were analyzed under constant axial force and reversed cyclic loading. In the finite element modeling, the confinement effects of both inner and outer tubes on the compressive strength of concrete as well as the effect of discrete crack for concrete fracture were incorporated which give a realistic prediction of the seismic behavior of CFDST columns. Lateral strength, stiffness, ductility and energy absorption are evaluated based on the hysteresis loops. The results indicated that the stiffeners had determinant role on improving pinching behavior resulting from the outer tube's local buckling and opening/closing of the major tensile crack of concrete. The lateral strength, initial stiffness and energy absorption capacity of longitudinally stiffened columns with fixed-free end condition were increased by as much as 17%, 20% and 70%, respectively. The energy dissipation was accentuated up to 107% for fixed-guided end condition. The use of transverse stiffeners at the base of columns increased energy dissipation up to 35%. Axial load ratio, hollow ratio and concrete strength affecting the initial stiffness and lateral strength, had negligible effect of the energy dissipation of the columns. It was also found that the longitudinal stiffeners and transverse stiffeners have, respectively, negative and positive effects on ductility of CFDST columns. The conclusions, drawn from this study, can in turn, lead to the suggestion of some guidelines for the design of CFDST columns.
The design provisions for the maximum steel ratio in reinforced concrete flexural members is normally provided to ensure sufficient ductility and economy by steel yielding at member failure. In the Concrete Structural Design Code (2012), the maximum steel ratio is expressed in terms of a net strain in tensile steel, and leading to very high steel ratio in the case of using high strength materials. Thereby, this may result in difficulty to satisfy a required workability at concrete placing. On the contrary, in the Korean Highway Bridge Design Code (Limit State Design) the maximum steel ratio is given in terms of the maximum neutral axis depth ratio that is 0.4. From these results, a rational model for the maximum steel ratio is suggested so as to satisfy a ductility as well as a workability.

The main objective of the current research is estimating the flexural behavior of ferrocement Ribbed Plates reinforced with composite material. Experimental investigation was carried out on fifteen plates; their dimensions were kept constant at 1200 mm in length, 600 mm width and 100 mm thick but with different volume fraction of steel reinforcement and number of ribs. Test specimens were tested until failure under three line loadings with simply supported conditions over a span of 1100 mm. Cracking patterns, tensile and compressive strains, deformation characteristics, ductility ratio, and energy absorption properties were observed and measured at all stages of loadings. Experimental results were compared to analytical models using ANSYS 10 program. Parametric study is presented to look at the variables that can mainly affect the mechanical behaviors of the model such as the change of plate length. The results showed that the ultimate strength, ductility ratio and energy absorption properties of the proposed ribbed plates are affected by the volume fraction and the type of reinforcement, and also proved the effectiveness of expanded metal mesh and woven steel mesh in reinforcing the ribbed ferrocement plates. In addition, the developed ribbed ferrocement plates have high strength, ductility ratio and energy absorption properties and are lighter in weight compared to the conventional RC ribbed plates, which could be useful for developed and developing countries alike. The Finite Element (FE) simulations gave good results comparing with the experimental results.

In order to prevent brittle failure of concrete, steel fiber reinforcement is effective composite material. However ductility of steel fiber reinforced concrete may be limited due to shrinkage caused by large content of cement binder. Chemical prestressing for steel fiber reinforcement in cement matrix can be induced through expansive admixture and this can increase reinforcing effect of steel fiber. In this study, mechanical performances in concrete with CSA (Calcium sulfoaluminate) expansive admixture and steel fiber reinforcement are evaluated. For this work, steel fiber reinforcement of 1 and 2% of volume ratio and CSA expansive admixture of 10% weight ratio of cement are added in concrete. Mechanical and fracture properties are evaluated in concrete with steel fiber reinforcement and CSA expansive admixture. CSA concrete with steel fiber reinforcement shows increase in tensile strength, initial cracking load, and ductility performance like enlarged fracture energy after cracking. With appropriate using expansive admixture and optimum ratio of steel fiber reinforcement, their interactive action can effectively improve brittle behavior in concrete.
The high strength steel sheets has been widely used as the automobile parts to reduce the weight of a vehicle. The aim of this research is to develop the TRIP aided high strength low carbon steels using reverse transformation process. The 0.15C-4Mn and 0.15C-6.5Mn steel sheets were reversely transformed by slow heating to intercritical temperature region and air cooling to room temperature. The stability of retained austenite depends on the enrichment of carbon and manganese by diffusion during the reverse transformation. The amount of retained austenite formed after reversely transformed at $645^{\circ}C$ for 12 hrs. was about 46vol.% in hot rolled 0.lC-6.5Mn steel. The change in volume fraction of retained austenite with a holding temperature was consistent with the changes in elongation and the strength-ductility combination. The tendency of tensile strength to increase with increasing the holding temperature was due to the decrease of retained austenite after cooling from the higher temperature of $670 ^{\circ}C$. The maximum strength-ductility combination was about 4,250 kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$ㆍ% when the hot rolled 0.lC-6.5Mn steel was reversely transformed at $645^{\circ}C$ for 12 hrs.
Fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars have been recently used to reinforce concrete members in flexure due to their high tensile strength and especially in corrosive environments to improve the durability of concrete structures. However, FRPs have a low modulus of elasticity and a linear elastic behavior up to rupture, thus reinforced concrete (RC) components with such materials would exhibit a less ductility in comparison with steel reinforcement at the similar members. There were several studies showed the behavior of concrete beams with the hybrid combination of steel and FRP longitudinal reinforcement by adopting the experimental and numerical programs. The current study presents a numerical and analytical investigation based on the data of previous researches. Three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) models of beams by using ANSYS are built and investigated. In addition, this study also discusses on the design methods for hybrid FRP-steel beams in terms of ultimate moment capacity, load-deflection response, crack width, and ductility. The effects of the reinforcement ratio, concrete compressive strength, arrangement of reinforcement, and the length of FRP bars on the mechanical performance of hybrid beams are considered as a parametric study by means of FE method. The results obtained from this study are compared and verified with the experimental and numerical data of the literature. This study provides insight into the mechanical performances of hybrid FRP-steel RC beams, builds the reliable FE models which can be used to predict the structural behavior of hybrid RC beams, offers a rational design method together with an useful database to evaluate the ductility for concrete beams with the combination of FRP and steel reinforcement, and motivates the further development in the future research by applying parametric study.
