Two main parameters were examined such as CSA content and polymer-binder ratio to find effects on the strength, water absorption, chloride ion penetration depth, carbonation depth, length change and chemical resistance of polymer-modified mortar with CSA and EVA polymer powder (EVAPP). As results, compressive, flexural, tensile, adhesive strengths, and length change of the polymer-modified mortar with CSA and EVAPP increases with increasing CSA content and polymer-binder ratio, although the water absorption, chloride ion penetration depth, and carbonation depth decrease with increasing polymer-binder ratio and CSA content, and also the chemical resistance decreases. Such strength and durability development is attributed to the high tensile strength of EVA polymer and the improved bond between cement hydrates and aggregates because of the addition of EVAPP and CSA.

The bacterial cellulose(BC) has many unique properties that are potentially and commercially beneficial. In order to enhance inherently inferior physical property of chemithermomechanical pulp(CTMP) sheet, chemical pulp has been used widely. Bacterial cellulose also has an enhanced sheet strength because of its unique physical and morphological features. This study was carried out to inverstigate the effect of BC addition on physical properties of CTMP sheets. The effect of BC addition on its optical properties was also discussed. The apparent density, internal bond strength, Young's modulus, tensile strength and folding endurance of CTMP sheet are increasing with increase of BC contents. This strength increase would be attributed to the increase of relative bonding sites among pulp fibers by addition of BC which has microfibrillar structure with very high specific surface areas. There were not so significant changes in opacity of CTMP sheet upto 20% addition level of BC, while over 40% addition, the opacity gradually decreased and levelled off. Porosity is decreased with addition of BC. This decrease would be attributed to densification of sheet by fine and filamentous structure of BC fibers.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of ferric and ferric ions contained in phosphoric acid solution as a pretreatment solution on bonding of MMA/TBBO resin to dentin. Each of 1 % and 3 % ferric chloride. cupric chloride. cupric sulfate. and cupric nitrate was mixed into 10% phosphoric acid solution and pretreated dentin surface of bovine anterior teeth for 30 seconds followed- by water rinse and dry. Tensile bond strength was determined after bonding of pretreated dentin with MMA/TBBO resin by use of brush-on ;technique and storing for 24 hours in 3it distilled water. The amount of cupric ions adsorbed on pretreated dentin surface was detected by Wave-Dispersion X-ray microanalyzer for different groups of each pretreatment solution containing cupric salts. The pretreatment with cupric ions contained in 10% phosphoric acid solution was effective to increase bonding strength of MMA/TBBO resin to dentin but not in case of ferric ions. The pretreatment with 3 % cupric chloride and cupric nitrate both enhanced significant increase in bonding strength compared to the control group of 10% phosphoric acid solution(p<0.05). Cupric ions measured in pretreated dentin surface was higher in 3 % cupric chloride group than in 1% cupric chloride group, but couldn't find distinct relationship from the results of this experiment between the amount of adsorbed cupric ions according to the kind of cupric salts and the bonding strength value.

This paper describes on characteristics of 2" 3C-SiC wafer bonding using PECVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) oxide and HF (hydrofluoride acid) for SiCOI (SiC-on-Insulator) structures and MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical system) applications. In this work, insulator layers were formed on a heteroepitaxial 3C-SiC film grown on a Si (001) wafer by thermal wet oxidation and PECVD process, successively. The pre-bonding of two polished PECVD oxide layers made the surface activation in HF and bonded under applied pressure. The bonding characteristics were evaluated by the effect of HF concentration used in the surface treatment on the roughness of the oxide and pre-bonding strength. Hydrophilic character of the oxidized 3C-SiC film surface was investigated by ATR-FTIR (attenuated total reflection Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy). The root-mean-square suface roughness of the oxidized SiC layers was measured by AFM (atomic force microscope). The strength of the bond was measured by tensile strength meter. The bonded interface was also analyzed by IR camera and SEM (scanning electron microscope), and there are no bubbles or cavities in the bonding interface. The bonding strength initially increases with increasing HF concentration and reaches the maximum value at 2.0 % and then decreases. These results indicate that the 3C-SiC wafer direct bonding technique will offers significant advantages in the harsh MEMS applications.ions.

Single lap-shear joints (SLJ) specimens with and without partial round fillets were fabricated to measure the average shear strength of adhesives. The effects of the length of the adherend on the SLJ specimens were also investigated. An epoxy adhesive was used to bond aluminum alloy. Tensile tests were performed on the adhesive bulk specimens to measure the mechanical properties. The finite element analysis (FEA) method was used to measure the adhesive stress distributions, i.e., the peel and shear stresses, on the bonded part. The experimental results revealed that the specimen consisting short length of adherend and without the partial round fillets exhibited the smallest average shear strength of adhesive among the investigated specimens. FEA revealed that the low average shear strength for the specimen with a short adherend length was caused by high stress concentrations on the adhesive at the edge of the bonded part.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of cyanate methacylate on the shear bond strengths to bovine dentin surfaces as a dentin primers. Seven experimental adhesives were made with different mass fraction of Isocyanatoetylme-thacrylate (IEM), 40wt% HEMA (Wako Pure Chemical Industries Osaka, Japan), 0.6% camphoroquinone, 0.4% amine and ethanol as balance dentin bonding agents (0, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12%) were made and applied on the surface of bovine dentin specimens of 7 experimental groups. Shear bond strengths were measured using a universal testing machine (Instro 4466). To identify the ratio and modes of cohesive failures, microscopic examinationn was performed. The ultra-structure of resin tags were observed under scanning electron microscope. The results were as follows ; 1) A higher shear bond strengths (33.62 MPa) in group 8% of Cyanate methacrylate to dentin were found, but there were no statistically significancy between Groups (p > 0.05). 2) The higher ratio of cohesive failures mode in group 2, 6, an 10% could be seen than that in any other groups. 3) A shorter resin tags were observed in all experimental groups. This could be resulted that the preventing from the cyanate methacrylate penetrate into dentin owing to reacting it with dentin collagen. Therefore the resin tags were shorter in lengths. Whether the higher bonding strengths of dentin bonding agents can be affected was not been assured with statistic results. The results indicated that the relation between tensile strengths of the dentin adhesives to bovine dentin and resin tags formed into the dentin could not affected. The main reason of increasing the shear bond strength to bovine dentin in experimental groups could not be assured.

It has been reported that FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) can be recycled by separating into layers instead of crushing into powder. F-fiber obtained from roving layer separated from FRP, has bigger tensile strength than the bundle of glass fibers of which FRP was made (more than 90%). SEM image of F-fiber shows the presence of some resin. Under the proposition of usage of F-fiber in the concrete material, tensile strength is examined after soaking in a basic solution (NaOH+KOH). The reaction mechanism of strength loss may be considered as an attack of hydroxide ion ($OH^-$) on a chemical bond of Si-O-Si of glass fiber. The simulation graph of the strength loss data implies certain reaction mechanism. While in the early stage kinetically controlled reaction results in a fast drop of tensile strength, after 30 days dispersion rate of hydroxide ion plays a major role in strength loss. This result is similar to the one for the AR glass. An extrapolation of the graph would make an assumption about the lift time of F-fiber possible.
PURPOSES: The performance of tack coat, commonly used for layer interface bonding, is affected by application rate and curing time. In this study, bonding strength tests were performed according to the application rate and curing time of asphalt emulsion. Based on finding from this study, optimum application rates and curing times are proposed. METHODS: In order to investigate bonding characteristic of asphalt emulsion, tests were performed on both asphalt concrete pavement and portland concrete pavement. Also, asphalt emulsions were tested at the application rate of 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, and $0.8{\ell}/m^2$ and at the curing time of 0, 0.5, 1, 2, and 24 hours. Pull-off test and shear bonding strength test, which commonly used for bonding strength measurement of asphalt emulsion, were adopted for this study. To assess field performance under different testing condition, asphalt emulsions were applied to in-service pavement. Throughout coefficient of determination analysis between material index properties from asphalt emulsion and mechanical response from bonding strength tests, performance correlativity was analyzed. RESULTS: Test results show that optimum application rate for asphalt overlay on asphalt concrete pavement (AOA) and asphalt overlay on concrete pavement (AOC) was $0.4{\sim}0.5{\ell}/m^2$ and $0.3{\sim}0.5{\ell}/m^2$, respectively. According to the curing time increment, tensile strength and shear strength of AOC were increased to 22~44% and 20~39%, respectively. AOA case also show strength increment in tensile strength (42%) and shear strength (9%). We tested the applicability of tack coat materials at the field sites, and our findings demonstrated that the bonding (for D and E) and rapid curing (for B, C, and D, E) performances were superior than others. Among material index properties, there was a high correlation between penetration ratio and bonding strength test result. CONCLUSIONS : Result show that interlayer bonding strength was affected by asphalt emulsion type, application rate and curing time. AOC required slightly higher application ($0.1{\ell}/m^2$) than AOA. Both AOA and AOC cases show higher strength at longer curing time. Up to 2hours of curing, rapid strength increments were observed, but strength increment ratio was decreased after 2hours of curing. From the observed correlation between penetration ratio and bonding strength, it is expected that penetration ratio can be used as one of important factors affecting bonding strength analysis.

In this paper, to intend anticorrosive effect and weight reduction of conventional reinforced concrete slab, lightweight concrete slab reinforced with glass fiber reinforced polymer(GFRP) bar was considered and some basic behaviour of the slab were investigated. Measurement of splitting tensile strength and fracture energy of the concrete, a number of flexural experiment of the slab, numerical analysis using nonlinear finite element analysis, and comparison of the experimental results to the numerical analysis, were conducted. As a result, even the weight of the lightweight concrete slab could be reduced by about 28% than the normal concrete slab, failure load of the lightweight concrete slab was 36% smaller than the normal concrete slab. Such a thing can be attributed to the lower axial stiffness and lower bond strength of GFRP bar. In the numerical analysis, to consider decreasing property of bond strength of the lightweight concrete, interface element was used between the concrete and the GFRP bar elements and this method was shown to be a better way for the numerical analysis to approach the experimental results.

This study was carried out to investigate the hair protection effect of fermented black soybean extracts. The morphological characteristics, tensile strength and constitutional changes of the hair were analyzed and compared when the hair was chemically oxidized and then treated with fermented black soybean extract. As a result, treatment of oxidizing agent on virgin hair caused damage on the cuticle layer of the epidermis and decreased in tensile strength of hair from $14.32{\pm}0.83g/cm^2$ to $12.32{\pm}0.79g/cm^2$. FT-IR analysis showed the peaks at 1,077, 1,041, and $801cm^{-1}$ of the hair treated with oxidizing agent were increased compared to peak values of virgin hair, indicating that cystein in hair was decreased which is crucial to disulfide bond between keratin. On the other hand, when the damaged hair is treated with the fermented black soybean extract, cracks in the cuticle layer of the epidermis were filled, tensile strength was restored to $14.27{\pm}0.96g/cm^2$ and the ratio of oxidized cysteine in hair was decreased. These results suggest that the fermented black soybean extract is worthy of further investigation as a protective material for hair damaged by oxidizing agents.
