The effect of the welding speeds on the weld bead shape, microstructure, and mechanical properties in type 304 austenitic stainless steels was investigated by microscopic test, Erichsen test and tensile test. In this study welds were produced using autogeneous Direct Current Straight Polarity (DCSP) and pulsed current GTA welding. This study shows the ferrite content, ductility, tensile strength and elongation of high speed welds are decreased with increasing welding speed. The high speed welds exhibits satisfactory tensile strength, though the ductility is not good as that of the base metal.
This study systematically examines the changes in the compressive and tensile strength of soil cement reinforced by natural hair fiber, which is regularly produced from human. Extensive experimental tests of various test specimens have been carried out in a laboratory. Several factors are considered, including the soil type, amount of cement, amount of fiber, fiber length, loading type, and curing age. The test results indicate that both the compressive and tensile strengths are significantly affected by the fiber, either increasing or decreasing depending on the conditions. The increase in tensile strength is significant in the sand-based soil cement due to the tensile resistance of the fiber which is interlocked with the surrounding soil or cement particles. The natural fiber provides a larger strain to failure due to its extensibility, which allows greater deformation. Based on the test results, natural hair fibers can be an effective and environmentally friendly way to improve soil ground subjected to tensile loading, such as an embankment slope, road subgrade, or landfill, thus reducing the cost for cement and waste treatment. The study results provide a useful information of better understanding the mechanical behavior of natural hair fiber in soil cement and the practical use of waste materials in civil engineering. The findings can be practically applied for improving earth structures under tensile loading.
The mechanical behavior of small-sized materials has been investigated for many industrial applications, including MEMS and semiconductors. It is challenging to obtain accurate mechanical properties measurements for thin films due to several technical difficulties, including measurement of strain, specimen alignment, and fabrication. In this work, we used the micro-tensile testing unit with the real-time DIC (Digital Image Correlation) strain measurement system. This system has advantages of real time strain monitoring up to 50 nm resolution during the micro-tensile test, and ability to measure the young's modulus and Poisson's ratio at the same time. The mechanical properties of SCS (Single Crystal Silicon) are measured by uniaxial tension test from freestanding SCS which are $2.5{\mu}m$ thick, $200-500{\mu}m$ wide specimens on the (100) plane. Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and tensile strength in the <110> direction are measured by micro-tensile testing system.
Micro tensile test specimens of thin film single crystal silicon for the most useful structural materials in MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) devices were fabricated using SOI (Silicon-on-Insulator) wafers and MEMS processes. Dimensions of micro tensile test specimens were thickness of $7\mu\textrm{m}$, width of 50~$350\mu\textrm{m}$, and length of 2mm. Top and bottom silicon were etched using by deep RIE (Reactive Ion Etching). Thin film aluminum markers on testing region of specimens with width of $5\mu\textrm{m}$, lengths of 30~$180\mu\textrm{m}$ and thickness of 200 nm for measuring tensile strain were fabricated by aluminum wet etching method. Fabricated side wall angles of aluminum marker were about $45^{\circ}~50^{\circ}$. He-Ne laser with wavelength of 633nm was used for checking fringed patterns.

Interfacial and microfailure properties of carbon liber/bismaleimide (BMI) composites were evaluated using both tensile fragmentation and compressive Broutman tests with acoustic emission (AE). Since BMI is rather difficult matrix to apply for the conventional fragmentation test because of its too low elongation and too brittle and high modulus properties, dual matrix composite system was applied. After carbon fiber/BMI composite was prepared for rod shape by controlling differing curing stage, composites rod was embedded in toughened epoxy as outer matrix. The typical microfailure modes including fiber break, matrix cracking, and interlayer failure were observed during tensile testing, whereas the diagonal slippage in fiber ends was observed during compressive test. On the other hand, AE amplitudes of BMI matrix fracture were higher than carbon fiber tincture under tensile test because BMI matrix has very brittle and high modulus. The waveform of signals coming from BMI matrix fractures was consistent with AE amplitude result under tensile tests.

In this study, an experiment for the biaxial behavior of specimens was carried out to identify whether the isotropic flexure tensile stress of concrete in the BFT method is feasible. Another experiment for the improvement of the BFT method was conducted to ensure the isotropic flexure tensile stress of BFT specimens during the test. In addition, the biaxial flexure strength of concrete given by the improved BFT method was compared to the uniaxial flexure strength by the four-point bending test. Test results show that the isotropic flexure tensile stress of concrete using the BFT method was highly influenced by the surface conditions and warping of the specimens. Using improved BFT method, we could obtained the isotropic flexure tensile stress of concretes. The biaxial flexure strength of BFT was about 32% greater than the uniaxial flexure strength of the four-point bending test. In the experiment, with the smaller scatter, the improved BFT method gave a reliable biaxial flexure strength like the four-point bending test.
A new type of composite insulated concrete sandwich wall (ICS-wall), which is composed of a triangle truss steel wire network, an insulating layer, and internal and external concrete layers, is proposed. To study the mechanical properties of this new ICS-wall, tensile, compression, and shearing tests were performed on 22 specimens and tensile strength and corrosion resistance tests on 6 triangle truss joints. The variables in these tests mainly include the insulating plate material, the thickness of the insulating plate, the vertical distance of the triangle truss framework, the triangle truss layout, and the connecting mode between the triangle truss and wall and the material of the triangle truss. Moreover, the failure mode, mechanical properties, and bearing capacity of the wall under tensile, shearing, and compression conditions were analyzed. Research results demonstrate that the concrete and insulating layer of the ICS-wall are pulling out, which is the main failure mode under tensile conditions. The ICS-wall, which uses a graphite polystyrene plate as the insulating layer, shows better tensile properties than the wall with an ordinary polystyrene plate. The tensile strength and bearing capacity of the wall can be improved effectively by strengthening the triangle truss connection and shortening the vertical distances of the triangle truss. The compression capacity of the wall is mainly determined by the compression capacity of concrete, and the bonding strength between the wall and the insulating plate is the main influencing factor of the shearing capacity of the wall. According to the tensile strength and corrosion resistance tests of Austenitic stainless steel, the bearing capacity of the triangle truss does not decrease after corrosion, indicating good corrosion resistance.

This paper presents an experimental study on flexural behavior of structural member enlarged with epoxy mortar system. The main test variable is flexural tensile strength. A series of 4 test beams was tested to shoe the corresponding effect of each variables on maximum load capacity, load-deflection and moment-curvature relationship, interface behavior and failure mode. The results show that the flexural tensile strength of retrofitted materials have no relation load-deflection, but to load-strain, and failure mode.
The plastic strain ratios(R-values) of low carbon steel sheets were determined by the automatic strain measurement method using two extensometers, the indirect photo method for the same tensile specimen during tensile test and the indirect method for the specimen after tensile test. The experimental results showed that the measured plastic strain ratios from the automatic strain measurement method using two extensometers coincided with those from the indirect photo method and the indirect method for all tensile specimens. In addition, the strain dependence of plastic strain ratios could be continuously recorded and the anisotropy of the strength coefficient, K, and strain hardening exponent, n, could be automatically calculated in three directions by computer through the use of two extensometers. The experimental results showed that the strain dependence of R-value was related to the anisotropy of strain hardening exponent in low carbon steel sheets.
The paper proposes a technique for reconstructing the true hardening curve of isotropic materials from ring tensile tests. Neutron irradiated 42XNM alloy tensile properties were investigated. The calculation of the true hardening curve for tensile and compression tests of standard cylindrical samples was performed at the first step. After that, the FEM-model was developed and validated using the ring tension and compression tests (with the hardening curve defined in step 1). Finally, the true hardening curve was calculated by selecting the FEM-model parameters and its validation by ring sample tests in different states using an iterative method. For these samples, experimental and calculated gauge length values were obtained, and the corresponding material's constants were estimated.
