Both tensile and tear properties of short-fiber reinforced Chloroprene rubber have been studied as functions of the fiber aspect ratio and fiber content. Both properties increased when both the fiber aspect ratio and fiber content were increased. The fiber reinforced rubbers exhibited maximum values of these properties at a fiber aspect ratio of about 300. When the fiber aspect ratio exceeds 400, the mechanical properties decreased with the fiber content because of the non-uniform dispersion of fibers. The tensile modulus was compared with the prediction by the Halpin-Tsai equations for randomly oriented cases. A bonding agent was used in the fiber treating process. It was found that the ultimate tensile strength, torque, tearing energy and tensile modulus of the rubbers with treated fibers were much higher than those with untreated ones.
Although concrete members are not normally designed to resist direct tension, the knowledge of tensile strength is of value in estimating the cracking load. In general, there are three types of test method for tensile strength ; direct tension test, flexural tension test, and splitting tension test. Though direct tensile strength represents the real tensile strength of concrete, direct tension tests are seldom carried out, mainly because it is very difficult to applicate a pure tension force. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the test methods, effect of aspect ratio, and the size effect on the direct tensile strength. Direct tension test, using bonded end plates, follows RILEM and U.S.Bureau of Reclamation. And other test methods follow ASTM provisions. Four kinds of aspect ratio and two kinds of size effect are tested. Same variables are tested by direct tension test and splitting tension test for comparison between the two test methods. Test results show that direct tensile strength of concrete is more affected by aspect ratio and size than other kinds of strength.
The influence of Poisson's ratio on the tensile strength of brittle materials is neglected in many studies. When brittle materials are loaded in compression or impact, substantial tensile stresses are induced within the materials. These tensile stresses are responsible for splitting failure of the materials. In this paper, the state of stress in a spherical particle due to two diametrically opposed forces is analyzed theoretically. A simple equation for the state of stress at the center of the particle is obtained. An analysis of the distribution of stresses along the z-axis due to distributed pressures and concentrated forces, and on diametrically horizontal plane due to concentrated forces, shows that it is reasonable to propose the tensile stress at the center of the particle at the point of failure as a tensile strength of the particle. Moreover, the tensile strength is a function of the Poisson's ratio of the material. As the state of stress along the z-axis in an irregular specimen tends to be similar to that in a spherical particle compressed diametrically with the same force, this tensile strength has some validity for irregular particles as well. Therefore, it can be proposed as the tensile strength for brittle materials generally. The effect of Poisson's ratio on the tensile strength is discussed.

The experimental set-up and one-dimensional analytical model have been developed to investigate the tensile behavior of reinforced concrete member due to restrained drying shrinkage. The experimental results have been compared with the analytical prediction of the maximum residual stress of steel and concrete due to restrained shrinkage. The tensile residual stress concrete by one-dimensional bilinear model shows 0.19 and 0.63 of tensile strength for 0.83% and 3.29 of steel ratio. The residual tensile stress of concrete increases as the steel ratio increases. The effect of steel fiber has not influenced the residual stress due to restrained shrinkage of concrete.

Investigated whether fiber orientation distribution of twisted yarn composites and the fiber content are 0$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ direction tensile strength and some correlation. Tensile strength of 0$^{\circ}$ directions of twisted yarn composites increased changelessly being proportional the fiber content and fiber orientation function get into anisotropic in isotropic. But, tensile strength ratio by separation of fiber filament of 90$^{\circ}$ directions tensile strength decreased when tensile load is imposed for width direction of reinforcement fiber. 0$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ direction tensile strength ratio value of a twisted yarn composites not receive almost effect of the fiber content of fiber orientation function J = 0.4 lows. Although do, 20 wt% of the fiber content is high about 0$^{\circ}$ and 90$^{\circ}$ direction tensile strength ratio about 1.6~2 than 10 wt% from J = 0.4. Therefore. could know that effect of the fiber content is dominate.

PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to estimate the optimum content of an inorganic additive for cold-recycled asphalt mixtures and evaluate its performance. METHODS : An indirect tensile test, a tensile-strength ratio test, and an indirect tensile-fatigue test were conducted on cold-recycling asphalt mixtures with various additives. RESULTS : The laboratory performance tests indicated that granulated blast-furnace slag mixed with inorganic and cement activators provided optimum performance. The performance results of the cold-recycled asphalt pavement were similar to the inorganic and cement activators' performance in terms of the indirect tensile strength, tensile strength ratio, and indirect tensile-fatigue test. CONCLUSIONS : Overall, the performance of a cold-recycled asphalt mixture using inorganic additives and emulsion asphalt was comparable to a warm-recycled asphalt mixture. However, more experiments aimed at improving its performance and studying the effect of the inorganic additives must be conducted.

Direct tensile response of strain hardening cement composites(SHCC) depends primarily on the material's tensile response, which is a water cement ratio, direct function of fiber and matrix characteristics, the bond between them, and the fiber volume fraction. This paper discusses effect of aspect ratio of the direct tensile response of SHCC with PET and PVA fibers. The main variables considered include the aspect ratio of PET fibers(Aspect ratio, ${\ell}/d_f$ : 150, 300, 600). For the same mixture proportion, PET1.5+PVA0.5-300 and PET1.5+PVA 0.5-600(Aspect ratio 300, 600) showed better overall behavior(Pseudo strain-hardening, Multiple cracking) than specimens with PET1.5+PVA0.5-150(Aspect ratio 150). Tensile strain of PET1.5+PVA0.5-300 and PET1.5+PVA 0.5-600 at ultimate tensile stress were 0.5, 2.0% respectively.

To prevent the shear failure that occurs abruptly with no sufficient warning, the minimum amount of shear reinforcement should be provided to reinforced concrete(RC) beams. The minimum amount of shear reinforcement of RC beams is influenced by not only compressive strength of concrete but also shear span-to-depth ratio and ratio of tensile longitudinal reinforcement. In this paper, 14 RC beams were tested in order to observe the influences of shear span-to-depth ratio, ratio of tensile longitudinal reinforcement, and compressive strength of concrete. The test results indicated that the rate of shear strength to the diagonal cracking strength of RC beams with the same amount of shear reinforcement increased as the ratio of tensile longitudinal reinforcement increased, while it decreased as the shear span-to-depth ratio increased. The observed test results were compared with the calculated results by the current ACI 318-02 Building Code and the proposed equation.
In this study, we investigated the effects of extrusion ratio and extrusion temperature on the microstructure and tensile properties of extruded Mg-6Al-0.3Mn-0.3Ca-0.2Y (SEN6) alloy. As the extrusion ratio and temperature increase, dynamic recrystallization during extrusion is promoted, leading to the formation of a fully recrystallized microstructure with increased grain size. Additionally, the increases in extrusion ratio and temperature lead to texture strengthening, exhibiting a higher maximum texture intensity. The extruded materials contain three types of secondary phases, i.e., Al8Mn4Y, Al2Y, and Al2Ca, with irregular or polygonal shapes. The quantity, size, distribution, and area fraction of the second-phase particles are nearly identical between the two materials. Despite its larger grain size, the tensile yield strength of the material extruded at 450 ℃ and an extrusion ratio of 25 (450-25) is higher than that of the material extruded at 325 ℃ and an extrusion ratio of 10 (325-10), which is mainly attributed to the stronger texture hardening effect of the former. The ultimate tensile strength is similar in the two materials, owing to the higher work hardening rate in the 325-10 extrudate. Despite differences in grain size and recrystallization fraction, numerous twins are formed throughout the specimen during tensile deformation in both materials; consequently, the two materials exhibit nearly the same tensile elongation.
The 1.6 vol% and 2.5 vol% TiNi/6061Al composites were fabricated by permanent mold casting for investigating the effect of heat treatment on tensile strength for composites. The tensile strength without T6 treatment at 293 K was increased with increasing the volume fraction of TiNi fiber and at 363 K the higher the pre-strain, the higher the tensile strength. The tensile strength of the composite with $T_{6}$ treatment at 293 K was found to increase with increasing both the amount of pre-strain and the volume fraction of TiNi fiber and was higher than that without $T_{6}$ treatment. It should be noted that the tensile strength 2.5vol%TiNi/6061Al composites rolled at a 38% reduction ratio was the maximum value of 298 MPa. The tensile strength of composites decreased with increasing the reduction ratio over 38% because of the rupture of TiNi fiber.
