A Study on Residential Satisfaction of Urban People returning to Rural Areas (전원지역 회귀도시민의 거주만족도에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the living standard and satisfaction level of urban people who moved to rural areas researched. Through these criteria, we could analyze people's perceptions of the current rural life. We would like to present this study as a base for improvement for those who seek a better life in a rural environment. The result of this study is as follows; The specific goals and need of our target group depend on individual characteristics, occupation and age etc. Therefore, the support system should sensibly consider their personal needs. In addition to this, the flow of information between these people should be changed from theoretical perspective to factual perspective. The new rural tenants obtained information on rural life mostly from private channels such as their acquaintances. Organizations responsible for providing information do not offer useful factual information on agrotechnology and financial support. Nevertheless, they are mainly focused on conceptual and ideological information.

Development Strateges for University Initiated Technology Business Ineubator (대학주도형 기술창업보육센터의 발전방향 - 해외사례연구를 중심으로 -)

  • One of the innovative and most promising approaches to new high-tech business formation from university is technology business incubators, which attempts to enhance small high-tech start-up firms' chances of survival. To date, there is few comprehensive effort to do a comparative study of technology business incubatiors between European Countries and U.S. to evaluate the impacts of them on regional development. With these consideration in mind this research anlayzed key findings of 6 case studies of university related Technology Business Incubators in the U.K., Germany, and U.S. to explore relationship of university to regional development. These included Cambridge Science Park(CSP) '||'&'||' West of Scotland Science Park in the U.K., Dortmund Technologiezentrum '||'&'||' Berlin Technologiezentrum, and Rensselaer Technology Development Center of the Georgia Institute of Technology in the U.S. The primary objective of this study was to advance our understanding of the impact and utility of technology business incubators and to get some policy implications for the future development in this area in Korea. Among the major question examined hear was "how do they contribute the overall economy of the communities in which they are located\ulcorner". The results of the case study about this question were very positive. The technology business incubators contributed to foster new high-tech small business formation from university, to facilitate the cooperation between university and industry and Incubator tenants created jobs and income, pay taxes, and in doing so, had a multiplier effects on the local economy. The same was true of incubator graduates. With this consideration in mind the university related business regioned development policy in korean local communities.

Different QoS Constraint Virtual SDN Embedding under Multiple Controllers

  • Software-defined networking (SDN) has emerged as a promising technology for network programmability and experiments. In this work, we focus on virtual network embedding in multiple controllers SDN network. In SDN virtualization environment, virtual SDN networks (vSDNs) operate on the shared substrate network and managed by their each controller, the placement and load of controllers affect vSDN embedding process. We consider controller placement, vSDN embedding, controller adjustment as a joint problem, together considering different quality of service (QoS) requirement for users, formulate the problem into mathematical models to minimize the average time delay of control paths, the load imbalance degree of controllers and embedding cost. We propose a heuristic method which places controllers and partitions control domains according to substrate SDN network, embeds different QoS constraint vSDN requests by corresponding algorithms, and migrates switches between control domains to realize load balance of controllers. The simulation results show that the proposed method can satisfy different QoS requirement of tenants, keep load balance between controllers, and work well in the acceptance ratio and revenue to cost ratio for vSDN embedding.

Satisfaction of Residents on the Publicly Purchased Property Program with Residential Environment and Housing Management (매입임대주택 거주자의 주거환경 및 주택관리 만족도 분석)

  • The Publicly Purchased Property (PPP) Program since 2004 has allowed low-income households to reside in decent housing at a reasonable expense and to live in a community they choose. With an increasing number of the housing stock, management of the properties becomes a growing concern. The purpose of this research is to find out the satisfaction of the tenants with residential environment and housing management. To collect data, a face-to-face interview survey was conducted for 310 households living in the designated properties of 8 cities in and outside the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA). Most of the households were a family of three headed by late middle-aged man and lived in physically sound, small-sized units at an affordable cost. Overall satisfaction with living environment was higher in non-SMA than in SMA, and influenced by building deterioration and unit size. Further, most of the respondents were in favor of housing management services provided by a nearby public housing estate. Building deterioration and regular onsite visits of management staff were determinants in the satisfaction with housing management. The results indicate that proper housing management delays building deterioration and assures decent living for low-income people, leading to high levels of residential satisfaction.

Perception of Managers on Residents Participation in Public Rental Housing Management (공공임대주택 주민의 생활관리업무 참여에 대한 관리자 의식조사)

  • Resident participation or tenant empowerment is becoming an important concept of planning, provision of welfare services, and management of housing. It can be motivated by three variables: shared goals, shared values, and sense of community among residents. Theoretically, the more each of these three variables, the more likely people will be to participate. The purpose of this study was to identify the perception of management staff on residents' participation in public rental housing. For this, 198 management staff of public rental housing under Korea Housing Management were surveyed using questionnaire distributed by email during February 18 to 27, 2009. Only 33.3% of the public rental housing complexes surveyed constituted Residents Representative Committee. Most of the respondents showed negative perception of resident organizations and their roles as an meaningful way to communicate with them on the management system. Several ways to enhance the resident participation and to reduce housing and living cost burden of residents in public rental housing were suggested as follows: development and distribution of education and service program inspiring the residents' empowerment, enacting a provision of Tenants Representative obligation in Rental Housing Act, and so on.

Advanced Resource Management with Access Control for Multitenant Hadoop

  • Multitenancy has gained growing importance with the development and evolution of cloud computing technology. In a multitenant environment, multiple tenants with different demands can share a variety of computing resources (e.g., CPU, memory, storage, network, and data) within a single system, while each tenant remains logically isolated. This useful multitenancy concept offers highly efficient, and cost-effective systems without wasting computing resources to enterprises requiring similar environments for data processing and management. In this paper, we propose a novel approach supporting multitenancy features for Apache Hadoop, a large scale distributed system commonly used for processing big data. We first analyze the Hadoop framework focusing on "yet another resource negotiator (YARN)", which is responsible for managing resources, application runtime, and access control in the latest version of Hadoop. We then define the problems for supporting multitenancy and formally derive the requirements to solve these problems. Based on these requirements, we design the details of multitenant Hadoop. We also present experimental results to validate the data access control and to evaluate the performance enhancement of multitenant Hadoop.

  • The smartwork is future-oriented working environment that allows us to engage in work anytime, anywhere conveniently and efficiently by utilizing information and communication technologies in a variety of locations and mobile environments. We proposed a smartwork platform to support the efficient housing management for small housing management companies. Our systems interwork in real time with smart mobile devices and SNS to support high quality housing service for tenants and rental operators. In this paper, we describe real-time complaint handling service using SNS which is a part of smartwork platform for the efficient housing management.

  • Excessive motions in buildings cause occupants to become uncomfortable and nervous. This is particularly detrimental to the tenants and ultimately the owner of the building, with respect to financial considerations. Serviceability issues, such as excessive accelerations and inter-story drifts, are more prevalent today due to advancements in the structural systems, strength of materials, and design practices. These factors allow buildings to be taller, lighter, and more flexible, thereby exacerbating the impact of dynamic responses. There is a growing need for innovative and effective techniques to reduce the serviceability responses of these tall buildings. The current study considers a case study of a real building to show the effectiveness and robustness of the TLD in reducing the coupled lateral-torsional motion of this high-rise building under wind loading. Three unique multi-modal TLD systems are designed specifically to mitigate the torsional response of the building. A procedure is developed to analyze a structure-TLD system using High Frequency Force Balance (HFFB) test data from the Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory (BLWTL) at the University of Western Ontario. The effectiveness of the unique TLD systems is investigated. In addition, a parametric study is conducted to determine the robustness of the systems in reducing the serviceability responses. Three practical parameters are varied to investigate the robustness of the TLD system: the height of water inside the tanks, the amplitude modification factor, and the structural modal frequencies.

  • Purpose: Urban heat island and Heat wave raise urban temperature and create damage of human life. Growing up as quantitative supply to solve shortage of housing, Urban residential area in Korea have a low rate of nature surface and heavily population makes temperature rise. Most houses in the declined residential area are multi-family rental housing and have many factors congesting housing environment such as narrow in-between space, outdoor staircases, walls and semi-basement floor, which make thermal environment getting worse. Most of the residents in this area are small tenants vulnerable to climate change adaptation, This damage is expected to be even greater. This study focus on multiple dwelling in urban residential area prone to temperature rise and draw temperature adaption method that can apply to multiple dwelling.

  • More than half of Korea's urban population currently lives in multi-unit dwellings. This particular residence structure inevitably positions the living spaces of residents in close proximity to one another. Because of this proximity, the sounds of a particular household will transfer to other residents' units creating conflict between tenants. Efforts to alleviate this problem have been made in both the public and private sector. A prominent method of noise analysis between living units has been to make an actual sound measurement and obtain qualitative measurements from questionnaires. Although this method has been most widely used, such analysis requires a large amount of human effort and time. In addition, the questionnaire method fails to provide the objective information needed to accurately assess the noise situation. To overcome the inadequacies of this previous method, this study seeks to evaluate the applicability of an acoustic simulation method. Three types of living noises were analyzed to assess the noise levels passed between multi-unit dwellings. The acoustic simulation method was found to be more economical, efficient, and adaptable in information processing. The results of this study can be further applied to design and control living-noise through procedures such as acoustic absorption or space redesign.
