SCS Curve Number and temporal Variation of Rainfall (강우의 시간분포를 고려한 CN값 산정)

  • A relation between the temporal variation of rainfall and direct runoff was characterized using temporal indexes of rainfall(1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th moment). Curve Number has a relation with 1st and 2nd moment for AMCIII condition when the rainfall duration is relative (10th quantile). Also peak runoff ratio(QP/Q) has a relation with 1st and End moment for AMCIII condition as well as 3rd and 4th moment for AMC I condition. Considering all durations of rainfall, alternatively, Curve Number has a relation with 1st and 2nd moment for AMCIIIcondition besides every moments for AMC I condition. But peak runoff ratio(QP/Q) has few relations excepting 3rd and 4th moment for AMC I condition. As a results, temporal indexes of rainfall are useful to determine curve numbers regarding the temporal variation of rainfall.

Analysis of Higher Temporal Moments for Breakthrough Curves of Volatile Organic Compounds in Unsaturated Soil (불포화 토양에서 유동하는 가스상 Volatile Organic Compounds의 출현곡선에 대한 고차 Temporal Moment의 분석)

  • Understanding the behavior of gas phase VOCs (volatile organic compounds) in unsaturated soils is of a great environmental importance for public health concerns. Moment analysis for the breakthrough curves (BTCs) during transport of chemicals in porous media was known to be a useful tool to evaluate the velocity, spreadness, and the skewness of the plume of the chemicals. In this study, the temporal moments of the BTCs of a group of VOCs were analyzed for the gaseous transport in an unsaturated soil. BTCs were measured using lab-scale column experiments for four different VOCs at the water saturation range of 0.04-0.46, and for eleven VOCs at a water saturation of 0.21. The central second and third moments of the VOCs were compared with the water saturation and the first moment. It was found that both central second and third moments increased with the first moment. The central third moment was, however, found to be more sensitive to the first moment.

Partitioning Tracer Analysis with Temporal Moments Equations (시간 모멘트식을 이용한 상분할추적자의 해석)

  • Partitioning tracers have been used with non-partitioning, inert tracer such Br, for detection, estimation, and monitoring of remediation performance of the subsurface contaminated with nonaqueous phase liquids (NAPLs). Various partitioning tracers with different partition coefficients between aqueous and nonaqueous phase liquids can be used to determine the hydraulic conductivity, dispersivity, and residual mass of NAPLs in the subsurface soil matrices. Temporal moment-generating equations were used to analyze the field pilot-scale test results. The pilot-scale tests included conservative tracer tests and partitioning tracer tests. Analyses of nonaqueous phase liquid distribution and characteristics of groundwater bearing soil media were performed.

Possible Causes for the Temporal Variations of 3-micron Hydrocarbon Emissions in the Auroral Regions of Jupiter

  • Recently, temporal variations of the 3-micron emissions of methane and ethane have been detected in the auroral regions of Jupiter observed from Gemini North (Kim et al. 2019, in preparation). These temporal variations of 3-micron hydrocarbon emissions in the auroral regions can be caused by the following phenomena: temporal variations of temperatures, mixing ratios, auroral particle bombardments and Joule heatings, and the combinations of these. Although we are not able to quantitatively determine the cause of the temporal variations at this moment, we will present the following quantitative discussions: thermal influences on the 3-micron emissions, global mixing ratio distributions of the hydrocarbon molecules, and energy distributions of auroral particles penetrating the hydrocarbon layers. We will also present a possible correlation between the temporal variations of the 3-micron emissions and solar wind activities.

A Study on the Change of Gait Temporal Parameter and Ankle Joint Moment in Patients with Achilles Tendinitis (아킬레스 건염 환자의 보행 시 고관절, 슬관절 및 족관절 모멘트의 변화에 대한 연구)

  • This study was to investigate the change of gait temporal parameter and ankle joint moment between patients with achilles tendinitis and healthy people. Thus, the purpose of this study is to clarify biomechanical change of gait in patients with achilles tendinitis and to find risk factor for prevention of achilles tendinitis. We recruited 20 patients with an achilles tendinitis and 20 healthy people. While subjects shuttled 5 times on 13 m distance with comfortable pace, we examined gait function marker with three-dimensional gait analysis system. All subject outstepped center of forceplate during gait and calculated ankle joint moment using software. Obtained data was analyzed using SPSS 12.0 software. In results, we confirmed that patients with achilles tendinitis showed reduction of extension moment in early initial phase and reduction of flexion moment in mid-stance on hip joint. and reduction of flexion moment in early initial phase and reduction of extension moment in late phase on knee joint. And we identified that patients with achilles tendinitis showed reduction of dorsiflexion moment in early stance phase, maximal plantarflexion moment in mid stance phase, and dorsiflexion moment in late stance phase. Thus, there are biomechanical changes on gait in patients with achilles tendinitis compared to healthy people. And, in clinical settings, they should focus on changes of gait in patients with achilles tendinitis. Further study will be undertaken for the biomechanical changes of patietns with achilles tendinitis.

Instantaneous Temporal Parts and Time Travel (순간의 시간적 부분과 시간여행)

  • The standard definition of an instantaneous temporal part cannot properly deal with cases involving time travel. This paper provides a new definition of an instantaneous temporal part by appealing to David Lewis's distinction between external time and personal time. The new definition avoids the problems because it does not allow more than one instantaneous temporal part of an object at each moment of its personal time. We argue that this new definition, combined with our new perdurantist semantic thesis, deals with cases of time travel successfully.

  • The up-to-moment dataset is built by combining the past dataset and the recent dataset. The proposal is to compute association rules in real time. This study proposed the model, $EM_{past'}$ and algorithm that is sensitive to time. It can be utilized in real time by applying partitioned combination law after dividing the past dataset into(k-1). Also, we suggested $EM^{ES}_{past}$ applying the exponential smoothing method to $EM^p_{past'}$ When the association rules of $EM_{past'}\;EM^w_{past'\;and\;EM^{ES}_{past}$ were compared, The simulation results showed that $EM^{ES}_{past}$ is most accurate for testing dataset than $EM_{past}$ and $EM^w_{past}$ in huge dataset.

  • In this study, to analyze travelling route and transition characteristics which is a spatial time interpretation method now actively progressed in domestic as well as abroad, it was intended to develop new drought interpretation technique which can decide the centroid and orbit of drought through assuming ellipse using Mass Moment concept. First of all, after estimating Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) per different precipitation observatory station to extract drought events, by selecting precipitation sites where drought starting and end point are same, these were categorized as CASE. As a results, with various CASE selections falling in specific duration for monthly drought analysis, it is possible to find out drought area that additionally occurred, and drought reliving process could be confirmed more definitely. Therefore, if the research methods adopted in this study for drought monitoring are utilized, not only accurate spatio-temporal drought analysis is possible, also pattern of drought centroid movement can be analyzed by establishing statistically significant spatial characteristics data after separating all the drought events that occurred sporadically in Korea Peninsula.

A Study on Development of Assessment Model for Spatio-Temporal Changes in River Bed Using Numerical Models (수치모형을 이용한 하상변동 시공간 평가 기법 개발 연구)

  • In this study, to develop an assessment method for spatio-temporal riverbed changes, a 1-dimensional model (HEC-RAS) and a 2-dimensional model (CCHE2D) were built and applied. As for the analysis of a riverbed's long-term change in a real stream, three new assessment methods were developed, which are called the "Sediment section cumulative curve", "Sediment section moment", and "Sediment probability distribution function." These methods were used to assess the characteristics of riverbed changes using a consistent valuation standard and to understand changes in quantities intuitively. From the results of this study, sediment characteristics of cross sections can be detected effectively by applying the "Sediment section cumulative curve" method to determine whether there is any sedimentation or erosion in total emission. The amount of sedimentation or erosion occurring in the right or left banks, which divided by center column, could be presented as one criterion by applying the "Sediment section moment" method. This approach could be utilized as an indicator for sediment predictions. Spatio-temporal sediment variables can be presented quantitatively by determining the mean and uncertain boundaries through the "Sediment probability distribution function", and finally, the results can be illustrated for each cross section to provide intuitive recognition.

  • 긍/부정 선택 실험에서 나타나는 뇌파 변화를 연구하였다. 서로 다른 위치에서 측정된 뇌파의 시공간적 상호관계를 정량화하는 변수로, 시간영역에서 계산하기 용이한 동기율(synchronization rate), 편향성(synchronization rate), 편향성(polarity), 상호상관(cross-correlation) 등의 변수를 도입하여, 긍/부정 선택 순간의 뇌파 변화를 살펴보았다. 좌우 전전두엽(Fp1, Fp2)에서 특정된 뇌파를 사용하여 계산한 동기율, 편향성의 평균과 요동폭, 상호상관 등은, 선택 순간 근처에서, 평상시에 뇌파와 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보였다.
