The reflood test data from the rod bundle heat transfer (RBHT) test facility showed that the grids in the upper portion of the rod bundle could become wet well before the arrival of the quench front and that the sizes of liquid droplets downstream of a wet grid could not be predicted by the droplet breakup models for a dry grid. To investigate the water droplet generation from a wet grid spacer, a viscous linear temporal instability model of the water sheet issuing from the trailing edge of the grid with the surrounding steam up-flow is developed in this study. The Orr-Sommerfeld equations along with appropriate boundary conditions for the flow are solved using Chebyshev series expansions and the Tau-Galerkin projection method. The effects of several physical parameters on the water sheet oscillation are studied by determining the variation of the temporal growth rate with the wavenumber. It is found that a larger relative steam velocity to water velocity has a tendency to destabilize the water sheet with increased dynamic pressure. On the other hand, a larger ratio of steam boundary layer to the half water sheet thickness has a stabilizing effect on the water sheet oscillation. Droplet diameters downstream of the spacer grid predicted by the present model are found to compare reasonably well with the data obtained at the RBHT test facility as well as with other data recently reported in the literature.

The motion vector estimation and motion boundary detection have been briskly studied since they are an important clue for analysis of object structure and 3-d motion. The purpose of this researches is more exact estimation, but there are two main causes to make inaccurate. The one is the erroneous measurement of gradients in brightness values and the other is the blurring of motion boundries which is caused by the smoothness constraint. In this paper, we analyze the gradient measurement error of conventional methods and propose new technique based on it. When the proposed method is applied to the motion boundary detection in Schunck and motion vector estimation in Horn & Schunck, it is shown to have much better performance than conventional method is some artificial and real image sequences.

In order to clarify the impact of anti-heat insulation pavement on the thermal structure of atmospheric boundary layer, field experiments and numerical simulations were carried out. Field experiment with various pavements were also conducted for 24 hours from 09LST 19 June 2007. And numerical experiment mainly focused on the impact of albedo variation, which is strongly associated with thermal characteristics of insulated pavement materials, on the temporal variation of planterly boundary layer. Numerical model used in this study is one dimension model with Planterly Boundary Layer developed by Oregon State University (OSUPBL). Because anti-heat insulation pavement material shows higher albedo value, not only maximum surface temperature but also maximum surface air temperature on anti-heat insulation pavement is lower than that on asphalt. The maximum value of surface temperature only reach on $49.5^{\circ}C$. As results of numerical simulations, surface sensible heat flux and the height of mixing layer are also influenced by the values of albedo. Therefore the characteristics of urban surface material and its impact on atmosphere should be clarified before the urban planning including improvement of urban heat environment and air quality.
Video Completion refers to a computer vision technique which restores damaged images by filling missing pixels with suitable color in a video sequence. We propose a new video completion technique to fill in image holes which are caused by removing an unnecessary object in a video sequence, where two objects cross each other in the presence of camera motion. We remove the closer object from a camera which results in image holes. Then these holes are filled by color information of some others frames. First of all, spatio-temporal volumes of occluding and occluded objects are created according to the centroid of the objects. Secondly, a temporal search technique by voxel matching separates and removes the occluding object. Finally. these holes are filled by using spatial search technique. Seams on the boundary of completed pixels we removed by a simple blending technique. Experimental results using real video sequences show that the proposed technique produces new completed videos.

In this paper, we propose a new MAC(Medium Access Control) protocol using Movable-boundary, which tries to guarantee Qos for multimedia traffic in the slotted CDMA system. In this scheme, the traffic scheduler assigns channel resource according to the packet priority per service class and adapts the Movable-boundary concept in which the minimum resource is assigned to each traffic class; the remaining resource if it is available can be assigned dynamically according to the temporal demand of other traffic classes. For performance analysis, we performed computer simulations to obtain throughput and packet loss rate and compared the results with Fixed-boundary system. We observed that the error rate of voice traffic could be maintained below a prescribed value while bursty traffic such as video source shares the same channel. In comparison with Fixed-boundary scheme, our protocol exhibits better throughput and packet loss rate performance.
This paper presents a hole-filling algorithm based on extrapolating spatial-temporal background information used in view synthesis for free-viewpoint television. A new background codebook is constructed and updated in order to extract reliable temporal background information. In addition, an estimation of spatial local background values is conducted to discriminate an adaptive boundary between the background region and the foreground region as well as to update the information about the hole region. The holes then are filled by combining the spatial background information and the temporal background information. In addition, an exemplar-based inpainting technique is used to fill the rest of holes, in which a priority function using background-depth information is defined to determine the order in which the holes are filled. The experimental results demonstrated that the proposed algorithm outperformed the other comparative methods about average 0.3-0.6 dB, and that it synthesized satisfactory views regardless of video characteristics and type of hole region.
In transmitting a compressed video bit-stream over Internet, a packet loss causes an error propagation in both spatial and temporal domain, which in turn leads to a severe degradation in image quality. In this paper, a new error concealment algorithm is proposed to repair damaged portions of the video frames in the receiver. Conventional BMA(Boundary Matching Algorithm) assumes that the pixels on the boundary of the missing block and its neighboring blocks are very similar, but has no consideration of edges t)r discontinuity across the boundary. In our approach, the edges are detected across the boundary of the lost or erroneous block. Once the edges are detected and the orientation of each edge is found, only the pixel difference along the expected edges across the boundary is measured instead of calculating differences between all adjacent pixels on the boundary. Therefore, the proposed approach needs very few computations and the experiment shows an improvement of the performance over the conventional BMA in terms of both subjective and objective quality of video sequences.

Multi-view video coding is an international encoding standard that attains good performance by fully utilizing temporal and inter-view correlations. However, it suffers from high computational complexity. This paper presents a fast encoder design to reduce the level of complexity. First, when the temporal correlation of a group of pictures is sufficiently strong, macroblock-based inter-view prediction is not employed for the non-anchor pictures of B-views. Second, when the disparity between two adjacent views is above some threshold, frame-based inter-view prediction is disabled. Third, inter-view prediction is not performed on boundary macroblocks in the auxiliary views, because the references for these blocks may not exist in neighboring views. Fourth, finer partitions of inter-view prediction are cancelled for macroblocks in static image areas. Finally, when estimating the disparity of a macroblock, the search range is adjusted according to the mode size distribution of the neighboring view. Compared with reference software, these techniques produce an average time reduction of 83.65%, while the bit-rate increase and peak signal-to-noise ratio loss are less than 0.54% and 0.05dB, respectively.
The important requirements for stereo video retargeting are threefold: keeping temporal coherence, preventing depth distortion, and minimizing shape distortions of the retargeted video. To meet these requirements, the left and right video sequences are divided into groups of frames (GoFs), where the GoF is a basic unit for the seam carving and we assign a set of fixed seams for all frames within the GoF. To determine the fixed seams for each GoF, we need to find the GoF boundary in the video first. Then, the representative frame for each GoF is generated by considering the spatial saliency and temporal coherence. Also, the confidence of the stereoscopic correspondence between the left and right frames is considered to prevent depth distortion.
Kiwifruit vines with broad leaves are easily torn or shed by high-speed wind. In this study, the threshold wind speed at which a cane is broken was investigated experimentally with varying physical parameters of a kiwifruit vine under two different ABL (atmospheric boundary layer) conditions. In addition, the temporal variation of wind-blown young canes was visualized using a high-speed camera. The average threshold wind speeds for ABL types A and B are about 20.5 m/s and 18.9 m/s, respectively. A wind-blown young cane takes periodic up-and-down motion when it is broken off. The mean motion frequency of young canes of the kiwifruit vines was found to be about 4.5Hz.
