  • To understand salinity status of fresh water and paddy soils and the susceptibility of rice to salinity stress of Gunnae reclaimed tidelands, salinity monitoring was conducted in rainy and dry seasons. For fresh water, a high salinity was observed at the sampling location near the sluice gate and decreased with distance from the gate. This spatial pattern of fresh water salinity indicates the necessity of spatial distribution of salinity in the assessment of salinity status of fresh water. Interestingly, there was significant correlation between rainfall amount and salinity, implying that salinity of fresh water varies with rainfall and thus it may be possible to predict salinity of water using rainfall. Soil salinity also higher near the gate, reflecting the influence of high saline water. In addition, the groundwater salinity also high to threat rice growth. Though soil salinity status indicated low possibility of sodium injury, there was changes in soil salinity status during the course of rice growth, suggesting that more intensive monitoring of soil salinity may be necessary for soil salinity assessment. Our study suggests the necessity of intensive salinity monitoring to understand the spatio-temporal variations of salinity of water and soil of reclaimed tideland areas.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the spatial and temporal distribution of phytoplankton biomass and community composition in Jinhae Bay on the southern coast of Korea. Phytoplankton pigment analysis was conducted using ultra performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) were conducted from April to December 2019 at seven stations. Temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen (DO) and inorganic nutrients (dissolved nitrogen, dissolved phosphorus, and orthosilicic acid) were measured to investigate the environmental factors associated with the structure of phytoplankton community. Phytoplankton biomass (Chl-a) was the highest in July (mean 15.4±4.3 ㎍/L) and the lowest in December (mean 3.5±0.6 ㎍/L). Fucoxanthin was the most abundant carotenoid and showed a similar variation pattern to Chl-a, peridinin, and Chl-b. Phytoplankton community composition analysis showed that diatoms were a predominant group with an average abundance of 70 % whereas chlorophytes, cryptophytes, and dinoflagellates often appeared with lower averages. Further, the dominance of diatoms was closely correlated with water temperature and N:P ratio, which might be influenced by high temperatures in the summer and nutrient loading from the land. Additionally, freshwater and nutrient input by rainfall was estimated to be the most important environmental factor. Hence, the spatial and temporal variations in the composition of phytoplankton pigments and phytoplankton community were correlated with physicochemical and environmental parameters.

  • With widespread use of the Internet and improvements in streaming media and compression technology, digital music, video, and image can be distributed instantaneously across the Internet to end-users. However, most conventional Digital Right Management are often not secure and not fast enough to process the vast amount of data generated by the multimedia applications to meet the real-time constraints. The SVC offers temporal, spatial, and SNR scalability to varying network bandwidth and different application needs. Meanwhile, for many multimedia services, security is an important component to restrict unauthorized content access and distribution. This suggests the need for new cryptography system implementations that can operate at SVC. In this paper, we propose a new scrambling encryption for reserving the characteristic of scalability in MPEG4-SVC. In the base layer, the proposed algorithm is applied and performed the selective scambling. And it encrypts various MVS and intra-mode scrambling in the enhancement layer. In the decryption, it decrypts each encrypted layers by using another encrypted keys. Throughout the experimental results, the proposed algorithms have low complexity in encryption and the robustness of communication errors.

  • The purpose of this study is to find the characteristics of organic matters based on the distribution and oxidation rates, as noted according to the spatial and temporal variations from 2008 to 2016. Generally speaking, the Han River system is separated into one lower course and two upper courses which are the Namhan River and Bukhan River. The seasonal factor is one of the most important causes of water quality changing in both of the upper courses as a result of a few pollution sources. The concentration of organic matter was measured as higher in the lower course into which great streams with point and non-point sources were identified. According to seasonal variations, however, the change of the organic matter in the lower course is comparatively slighter than that of organic matters in the upper courses. The oxidation rates related to the BOD were 15 %, 17 % and 26 % in the Bukhan River, Namhan River and the lower course, respectively. These results could be explained that more biodegradable organic matter were seen to have existed in the lower courses comparing to the activity in the upper course. The oxidation rates of the BOD were noted as relatively higher in the eutrophicated places with phytoplankton. Therefore the BOD is one of the good index models to find the characteristic of the eutrophicated water. On the other hand BOD would not be enough to estimate concentration of refractory organic matters in the Bukhan and Namhan river. Consequently, both of the TOC and BOD are necessary indices to understand the identified refractory and/or biodegradable characteristics of organic matter.

  • Maize (Zea mays L.) pistil cell death and stamen cell arrest are pivotal process on the sex determination, which diverges from bisexual state of floral meristem to unisexual state in staminate or pistillate floret. We investigated the temporal and spatial distribution of cell cycle gene expression during maize sex determination. The positive regulatory genes of cell cycle, cyclin A, cyclin B, cyclin dependent kinase (CDK) and Mad2 were highly expressed in the developing pistil and stamen but the expression was disappeared in the dying pistil and arresting stamens. In contrast, the negative regulatory genes of cell cycle, Wee1 and CDK inhibitor (CKI) were expressed in the arresting stamens in the wild-type ear and tasselseed2 mutant tassel, however, these genes were not detected in dying pistil although the cyclin B gene expression was disappeared. These results suggest that both the pistil cell death and stamen cell arrest process in maize sex determination are involved in cell cycle regulation, but the different expression patterns of negative regulatory cell cycle genes in the arresting stamens and aborting pistils suggest that the two processes may have distinctive modes of action.

  • The emission factor and activity data of fugitive dust in the domestic agricultural field have been applied to the US inventory system without reflecting the domestic environmental conditions (wind speed, humidity, etc.) and agricultural characteristics. In this study, the temporal resolution was improved for each region by deriving a monthly distribution factor through the application of wind speed and dry season and the spatial resolution was improved for each region by subdivided into dong and ri from ci·gun·gu. Through this study, it is judged that it can be used as an important data for improving the emission and activity data of fugitive dust in the agricultural field that currently exist.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the distribution characteristics of spatial and temporal PM2.5 in urban areas of Changwon-si, and to identify the causes of PM2.5 by comparing the characteristics of land-use, and to suggest the direction of reduction measures. As the basic data, the every hour average from September 2017 to August 2018 of Airpro data, which has measurement points in kindergartens, elementary schools, and some middle and high schools in Changwon-si was used. Also, by using IDW method among spatial interpolation methods of GIS, monthly and time-slot distribution maps were constructed, and based on this, spatial and temporal PM2.5 distribution characteristics were confirmed. First, to verify the accuracy of the Airpro data, the correlation with AirKorea data managed by the Ministry of Environment was confirmed. As a result of the analysis, R2 was 0.75~0.86, showing a very high correlation and the data was judged that it was suitable for the study. In the monthly analysis, January was the highest year, and August was the lowest. As a result of analysis by time-slot, The clock-in time at 06-09 was the highest, and the activity time at 09-18 was the lowest. By administrative district, Sangnam-dong, Happo-dong, and Myeonggok-dong were the most severe regions of PM2.5 and Hoeseong-dong was the lowest. As a result of analyzing the land-use characteristics by administrative area, it was confirmed that the ratio of traffic area and commercial area is high in the serious area of PM2.5. In conclusion, the results of this study will be used as basic data to grasp the characteristics of PM2.5 distribution in Changwon-si. Also, it is thought that the severe regions and the direction of establishing reduction measures derived from this study can be used to prepare more effective policies than before.

  • The concentration and size analysis of in-situ suspended particulate material were measured using an optical instrument, LISST-100, in the bottom layer at the three inlets of the Seomjin River Estuary, mouth of Gwangyang bay, and Gwangyang bay-side of the Namhae Bridge. In the Seomjin river estuary and mouth of Gwangyang bay-side of the Namhae Bridge, the in-situ mean grain size of the suspended material changed from a uni-modal distribution with a dominant peak at a coarse fraction to a bi-modal distribution with a secondary peak at the finer particles. Seomjin River. The interactions between suspended particulate concentration and beam attenuation coefficient of suspended particulate matters depended on the supply of finer and coarser particles in the mouth of Gwangyang Bay and Seomjin River. So, interactions reflected difference of the concentration, mean size and sorting of suspended particulate matters. The difference of interaction showed dynamic behaviors to the resuspension and deflocculation processes increased river discharge. This showed that it may be possible to use the interactions between the suspended particle concentration and beam attenuation coefficient to monitor the temporal and spatial distributions of in-situ particles.

  • The aim of this study is to clarify whether frequency and/or severity of extreme climate events have changed significantly in Korea during recent years. Using the best available daily data, spatial and temporal aspects of ten climate change indicators are investigated on an annual and seasonal basis for the periods of 1954-1999. A systematic increase in the $90^{th}$ percentile of daily minimum temperatures at most of the analyzed areas has been observed. This increase is accompanied by a similar reduction in the number of frost days and a significant lengthening of the thermal growing season. Although the intra-annual extreme temperature range is based on only two observations, it provides a very robust and significant measure of declining extreme temperature variability. The five precipitation-related indicators show no distinct changing patterns for spatial and temporal distribution except for the regional series of maximum consecutive dry days. Interestingly, the regional series of consecutive dry days have increased significantly while the daily rainfall intensity index and the fraction of annual total precipitation due to events exceeding the $95^{th}$ percentile for 1901-1990 normals have insignificantly increased.

  • A grid-based urban surface runoff model for simulating the temporal variation and spatial distribution of overland flow in a drainage area was developed. The process of routing of overland flow is modeled by the nonlinear storage equation which is composed of the continuity equation and the Manning's equation. For model operation, the drainage area is divided into grid areas, and spatially distributed topographical and hydrological information for model inputs is provided. Then overland flow is routed for each of the discretized cells of the area. In order to test the applicability of this model, temporal variations and spatial distributions of flow depth and overland flow was simulated in a fictitious and a real urbanized Kunja drainage area. Results indicate that the model can simulate reasonably well the urban runoff hydrograph.
