The regenerative evaporative cooler(REC) is to cool a stream of air using evaporative cooling effect without an increase in the humidity ratio. In the regenerative evaporative cooler, the air can be cooled down to a temperature lower than its inlet wet-bulb temperature. Besides the cooling performance, for practical application of the regenerative evaporative cooler, the compactness of the system is also a very important factor to be considered. In this respect, three different configurations, i.e., the flat plate type, the corrugated plate type, and the finned channel type are investigated and compared for the most compact configuration. The optimal structure of each configuration is obtained individually to minimize the volume for a given effectiveness within a limit of the pressure drop. Comparing the three optimal structures, the finned channel type is found to give the most compact structure among the considered configurations. The volume of the regenerative cooler can be reduced to 1/8 by adopting the finned channel type as compared to that of the flat plate type.
It is a research about the change in reduction efficiency and performance resulting from installation of the EGR cooler, which is the core technology reducing NOx in response to standards been tightened of exhaust controls for off-road vehicle. It can reduce NOx by altering combustion temperature and oxygen concentration by recycling high-temperature exhaust gas. The target engine was large diesel engine for construction machine through by which we were able to verify a rate of change in output and capabilities for a heat-exchange within cooler itself depending on the existence of EGR cooler system. We have acquired a emission reduction technology for a construction machine by testing the reduction performance and rate of change in output.

The heat transfer coefficients during gas cooling process of carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube were investigated. The experiments are conducted without oil in the refrigerant loop. The main components of the refrigerant loop are a receiver, a variable-speed pump, a mass flow meter, a pre-heater, and a gas cooler(test section). The water loop consists of a variable-speed pump, an isothermal tank, and a flow meter. The gas cooler is a counterflow heat exchanger by cooled water flowing in the annulus. The $CO_2$ flows in the horizontal stainless steel tube. which is 9.53mm in O.D. and 7.75mm in I.D. The gas cooler is 6 [m] in length. which is divided into 12 subsections, respectively. The experimental conditions considered in the study are following range of variables : refrigerant temperature is between 20 and $100^{\circ}C$. mass fluxes ranged from 200 to 400kg/($m^2$.s), average pressure varied from 7.5 to 10.0MPa. The main results were summarized as follows : The friction factors of $CO_2$ in the gas cooler show a relatively good agreement with those predicted by Blasius' correlation. The local heat transfer coefficient in the gas cooler has compared with most of correlations, which are the famous ones for forced convection heat transfer of turbulent flow. The results show that the local heat transfer coefficient of gas cooler agrees well with the correlation by Bringer-Smith except that at the region near pseudo critical temperature. while that at the near pseudo critical temperature is higher than the correlation.

Vortex tube is the device that can separate small particles from the compressed gas, as well as compressed gas into hot and cold flow. Due to energy separation ability, a vortex tube can substitute for an EGR cooler of the automotive engine. In this study, experimental approach has been performed to analyze the energy separation characteristics of the vortex tube. Energy separation characteristics of the vortex tube has been tested for supply pressure, cold-out pressure, and hot-out pressure. As increasing supply pressure, energy separation effect increased. Maximum temperature exists about 0.85 of the cold-out-flow-ratio, and minimum exists about 0.35. Hot-out temperature of the vortex tube is affected by the hot-out and cold-out pressure. However, for the given conditions, cold-out temperature is independent of exit pressure change. The results from this study can be used for the basic design parameter of the EGR cooler substitute of an automotive engine.

The thermoelectric cooler is receiving great interest because of advantages such as the precise temperature control capability, the compact and lightweight cooler, and the mechanical vibrationless structure which enhances the reliability compared with the existing vapor compression cooler. However, it is not easy to design the optimal thermoelectric cooler which appropriate to the application because the thermal analysis should be necessary required. Accordingly, this paper studies the methodology of the modelling, sizing and thermal analysis of the thermoelectric cooler using SINDA/FLUINT analysis tool.
This paper deals with design method of proportional-integral(PI) and feedforward controller for obtaining precise temperature and high energy efficiency of oil cooler system in machine tools. The compressor's speed and opening angle of an electronic expansion valve are controlled to keep reference value of temperature at oil outlet and superheat of an evaporator. Especially, the feedforward controller is added to suppress temperature fluctuation under abrupt disturbances. Through some experiments, the suggested method can control the target temperature within steady state error of ${\pm}0.l^{\circ}C$ and maximum overshoot $0.2^{\circ}C$ under abrupt disturbances.
In this research, cascade liquefaction process was simulated using two-staged direct expansion with inter-cooler. Evaporated gaseous refrigerant which has low pressure and temperature from the inter-cooler is mixed with gaseous refrigerant from outlet of 1st compressor, and flows into 2nd compressor. Therefore this prevents superheating compression. Compressor work of process which includes inter-cooler to all cycles shows the lowest value of 338.68 MW and it is lower 16.34% than that of basic process. Refrigeration capacity shows decreasing tendency as applied inter-cooler and that of process which includes inter-cooler to all cycles shows the lowest value of 449 MW. COP was increased when the inter-cooler was applied, and process which includes inter-cooler to all cycles shows highest value of 1.33. It shows that COP was increased because decrement of compressor work by applying inter-cooler was higher than decrement of refrigeration capacity.

It has been investigated for the temperature profile in a planar evaporator of micro-cooler subject to a uniform heat flux prior to tole initiation of boiling. The results of the analysis allow for the determination of applied power levels fur which nucleation is likely to occur only within the vapor grooves of the evaporator while maintaining subcooling in the liquid core, thereby increasing the likelihood of a successful startup. Also, limits are fecund for which additional increases in the applied heat flux do not increase the temperature difference between the vapor grooves and the wick-liquid core interface. This analysis is appropriate for the microscale evaporators of micro-cooler during a fully-flooded startup as well as starter pump designs and micro-CPLs(capillary pumped loops). The results are useful in the initial basic design of microscale heat transfer devices.

In this paper, cycle performance analysis of two-stage compression and two-stage expansion refrigeration system using alternative freon refrigerants is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. Alternative freon refrigerant for freon refrigerant R22 were used as working fluids in this study. The operating parameters considered in this study included evaporation temperature, condensation temperature, subcooling degree, superheating degree, and mass flow rate ratio of inter-cooler. The main results were summarized as follows : The COP of two-stage compression and two-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing subcooling degree and mass flow rate ratio of inter-cooler, but decreases with the increasing evaporating temperature, condensing temperature and superheating degree. Therefore, subcooling degree, mass flow rate ratio of inter-cooler of two-stage compression and two-stage expansion refrigeration system using alternative freon refrigerants have an effect on COP of this system.
In this paper, cycle performance analysis for heating capacity, compression work and COP of R134a supercritical heat pump is presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include superheating degree, pressure and outlet temperature of gas cooler, compressor efficiency and evaporating temperature in the R134a supercritical heat pump system. The main results were summarized as follows : Superheating degree, pressure and outlet temperature of gas cooler, compressor efficiency and evaporating temperature of R134a heat pump system have an effect on the heating capacity, compression work and COP of this system. With a thorough grasp of these effect, it is necessary to design the supercritical heat pump using R134a. The prediction for COP of R134a supercritical heat pump have been proposed through multiple regression analysis.
