For the development of high efficiency and low emission combustion systems, high temperature air combustion technology has been tested by utilizing preheated air over 1100 K and exhaust gas recirculation. In this system, combustion air is diluted with large amount of recirculated exhaust gases, such that the oxygen concentration is relatively low in the reaction zone, leading to low flame temperature. Since, the temperature fluctuations and sound emissions from the flame are small and flame luminosity is low, the combustion mode is expected to be flameless or mild combustion. Experiment was performed to investigate the turbulent flame structure and NO$_x$ emission characteristics in the high temperature air combustion focused on coflowing jet diffusion flames which has a fundamental structure of many practical combustion systems. The effect of turbulence has also been evaluated by installing perforated plate in the oxidizer inlet nozzle. LPG was used as a fuel. Results showed that even though NO$_x$ emission is sensitive to the combustion air temperature, the present high temperature air combustion system produce low NO$_x$ emission because it is operated in low oxygen concentration condition by the high exhaust gas recirculation.
A 2-dimensional temperature field measurement technique using PLIF (Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence) was developed and it was applied to an axisymmetric buoyant jet. Rhodamine B was used as a fluorescent dye. Laser light sheet illuminated a two-dimensional cross section of the jet. The intensity variations of LIF signal from Rhodamine B molecules scattered by the laser light were captured with an optical filter and a CCD camera. The spatial variations of temperature field of buoyant jet were derived using the calibration data between the LIF signal and real temperature. The measured results show that the turbulent jet is more efficient in mixing compared to the transition and laminar jet flows. As the initial flow condition varies from laminar to turbulent flow, the entrainment from ambient fluid increases and temperature decay along the jet center axis becomes larger. In addition to the mean temperature field, the spatial distributions of temperature fluctuations were measured by the PLIF technique and the result shows the shear layer development from the jet nozzle exit.
For the development of high efficiency and low emission combustion systems, high temperature air combustion technology has been tested by utilizing preheated air over 1100 K and exhaust gas recirculation. In this system, combustion air is diluted with large amount of exhaust gases ($N_2$, $CO_2$), such that the oxygen concentration is relatively low in the reaction zone, leading to low flame temperature. Since, the temperature fluctuations and sound emissions form the flame are small and flame luminosity is low, the combustion mode is expected to be flameless or mild combustion. Demand and necessity for eco-friendly offshore wind farms have been increasing. Research on submarine cables is constantly being considered for a reliable and stable power transmission. This study aimed to evaluate the thermal aging characteristic of submarine cables inside the J-tube of offshore wind farms. In this study, a submarine cable was set in three sections: The first is the part exposed to the air above the sea level at high temperature. The second is the section exposed to repeated temperature fluctuation as the sea level rises and falls. The third is the part submerged at low temperature below the sea level. Aged samples were tested by using the method of electrical evaluation to obtain insulation characteristics. The experimental results show that the dielectric breakdown of the sample with temperature fluctuation was 7% lower than the sample with a constant temperature; thereby, demonstrating that the section where the temperature fluctuation occurred in the submarine cables was weaker than the other. The sections of submarine cable with temperature fluctuations are believed as a weak point during operation; therefore, this part should be monitored preferentially.
Accurate tissue temperature monitoring during clinical procedures, such as laser therapy or surgery, is crucial for ensuring patient safety and treatment efficacy. Noninvasive techniques are essential to prevent tissue disturbance while providing real-time temperature data. However, current methods often struggle to accurately measure temperature at various depths within the skin, which is essential to avoid damage to surrounding healthy tissues due to excessive heat. In response to this challenge, we developed a confocal imaging system that utilizes the laser speckle imaging (LSI) technique for precise depthwise temperature monitoring. LSI uses laser light scattering to capture subtle changes in speckle patterns on the skin's surface due to temperature fluctuations within the tissue. By analyzing these changes, LSI enables accurate depth-resolved temperature measurements. This technique enhances the precision and safety of medical procedures, offering significant potential for broader clinical applications, improved patient outcomes, and better thermal management during interventions.
Turbulent flow and heat transfer characteristics of textile machine are numerically investigated. To examine the influence of flow structures on the drying performance of fabrics, the nozzle shape of high temperature chamber is changed. For several nozzles, flow and heat transfer characteristics are discussed. The results show that the drying performance is improved by controlling the angle and arrangement of nozzles corresponding to different drying conditions. This feature is strongly related to the enhancement of turbulent fluctuations and secondary flows.
This manuscript illustrates the comparative study between ARIMA and Exponential Smoothing modeling to develop forest fire forecasting system using different weather parameters. In this paper, authors have developed the most suitable and closest forecasting models like ARIMA and Exponential Smoothing techniques using different weather parameters. Authors have considered the extremes of the Wind speed, Radiation, Maximum Temperature and Deviation Temperature of the Summer Season form March to June month for the Ranchi Region in Jharkhand. The data is taken by own resource with the help of Automatic Weather Station. This paper consists a deep study of the effect of extreme values of the different parameters on the weather fluctuations which creates forest fires in the region. In this paper, the numerical illustration has been incorporated to support the present study. Comparative study of different suitable models also incorporated and best fitted model has been tested for these parameters.
Plants have become physiologically adapted to a seasonally shifting environment by evolving many sensory mechanisms. Seasonal flowering is a good example of adaptation to local environmental demands and is crucial for maximizing reproductive fitness. Photoperiod and temperature are major environmental stimuli that control flowering through expression of a floral inducer, FLOWERING LOCUS T (FT) protein. Recent discoveries made using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana have shown that the functions of photoreceptors are essential for the timing of FT gene induction, via modulation of the transcriptional activator CONSTANS (CO) at transcriptional and post-translational levels in response to seasonal variations. The activation of FT transcription by the fine-tuned CO protein enables plants to switch from vegetative growth to flowering under inductive environmental conditions. The present review briefly summarizes our current understanding of the molecular mechanisms by which the information of environmental stimuli is sensed and transduced to trigger FT induction in leaves.
The short green period of zoysiagrass has been a problem in using for turf. This study was performed to check growth response of several wintergrasses under sunny and shady area in Korea. Wintergrasses of 5 species, 27 cultivars introduced from U.S.D.A., were used in this study. After establishment, two fluctuations of top growth were observed which varied according to the species; first, due to drought in May, second, due to high temperature and humidity from July to August. Red fescues and perennial ryegrasses showed severe growth retardation in sunny area during summer period. Kentucky bluegrasses and tall fescues maintained good Qualities nearly all the year round arid showed slight disease infections. Kentucky bluegrass 'Kenblue' and red fescue 'Agram' grown under shady area showed higher photosynthetic ability than under sunny area, except the temperature range from 30˚C to 40 ˚C under 40,000 lux light in red fescue 'Agram'. And the phorosynthesis was decreased at the temperature range from 35 ˚C to 40 ˚C. Key words: Wintergrass, Top growth, Visual rating, Photosynthesis, Poa pratensis. Festuca arundinacea, Pestuca rubra. Lolium perenne, Agrostis stolonifera.
