Microstructure and Dielectric Properties in $40Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-30PbTiO_3-30Pb(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})O}3$ Ceramics with Excess $91PbO-9WO_3$ Addition ($91PbO-9WO_3$가 과잉첨가된 $40Pb(Mg_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-30PbTiO_3-30Pb(Mg_{1/2}W_{1/2})O}3$계 세라믹스의 미세구조와 유전특성)

  • The effects of 0 to 6 mol% excess 91PbO-9WO3 addition on the microstructure and the dielectric pro-perties in 40Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-30PbTiO3-30Pb(Mg1/2W1/2)O3 ternary system were investigated. Excess 91PbO-9WO3 addition enhanced densification at relatively lower temperature due to the formation of liquid phase. The dielectric constant of the specimen with standard composition was 16,400 and that of specimen with 1 mol% excess additive was the maximum of 18,500. And more than 2 mol% excess addition decreased dielec-tric constant. Specimens with 2~4 mol% 91PbO-9WO3 addition showed dual peak maxima in the tem-perature dependence of dielectric constant. In the specimens which have more than 5 mol% excess addition a new phase with W-rich composition was formed at grain boundary.

Sr/Ba Ratio Dependence of Dielectric Characteristics in Strontium Barium NiobateCeramics (Sr/Ba 비에 따른 Strontium Barium Niobate 세라믹스의 유전특성)

  • The tetragonal tungsten bronze type of Sr$_{x}Ba_{1-x}Nb_{2}O_{6}$(SBN) (0.3$\le$x$\ge$0.7) ceramics was synthesized by the solid state reaction method, and the dielectric properties of SBN ceramics as a function of Sr/Ba ratio were examined. With increasing Sr/Ba ratio in SBN ceramics, the Curie temperature decreased and the maximum dielectric constant at the Curie temperature increased. The relaxor behavior of the SBN ceramics as a function of Sr/Ba ratio was quantitatively evaluated. More relaxor behavior of dielectric characteristics was observed as the ratio of Sr/Ba increased. The experimental results are explained with a viewpoint of crystallography of tungsten bronze structured SBN ceramics.

  • Effect of NiO and $MnO_2$ addtivies on the dielectric piezoelectrics and polarization-reversal properties of $(Pb_{0.936} La_{0.064})$$(Zr_{0.60}Ti_{0.40})O_3$ ceramics have been investigated. The specimens were prepared by the mixed oxide techni-que and atmosphere sintering method. The room temperature X-ray diffraction studies show that perfect perovskite solution with tetragonal structure was obtained from PLZT and its additives. The dielectric constant and dissipation factor decreased with the addition of both NiO and $MnO_2$ The Curie of Curie temperature was not observed but they displayed broadened maxima. The planar coupling factor was improved by addition of NiO and also increased with increasing sintering time carried out at 105$0^{\circ}C$ Addition of $MnO_2$ yielded a markedly high mechanical quality factor. The space-charge field decreased with the addition of NiO but increased with the addition of $MnO_2$ The planar coupling factor and space-charge field showed same dependence on the additivies. The tetragonality Curie temperature and planar coupling factor of $(Pb_{0.936} La_{0.064})$$(Zr_{0.60}Ti_{0.40})O_3$ were higher than those of $(Pb_{0.936} La_{0.064})$$(Zr_{0.568}NU_{0.032}Ti_{0.40})_{0.984}O_3$ but the grain size lattic parameter dielectric constant dissipation factor mechanical quality factor and space-charge field of the former were lower than those of the latter.

A Study on Frequency Dependence on Dielectric Properties of Silicone Rubber Sheets (실리콘 고무 시트의 유전특성에 미치는 주파수 의존성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the following results were obtained by analysis of electric properties with FT-IR, DSC, XRD, and SEM, in the range of temperature 30~160℃ and frequency 0.1~200 kHz, when filling agent (0~100 phr) and silicone oil (0~12 phr) were added to raw silicone rubber. In the case of 100 phr mixed samples, the relative dielectric constant εr gradually decreased from 4.3 to 3.96 as frequency increased, and the dielectric loss tan δ decreased to 0.01 at 300 Hz, then increased to 0.022 at 30 kHz, then decreased to 200 kHz. The FT-IR analysis identified the same binding structure according to the chemical composition of added silica (SiO2). Through DSC analysis, we could determine the change of heat quantity and the glass transition temperature of each specimen. In the XRD analysis, it was found that the images SiO2, TiO2, and Fe2O3 appeared for specimens with 0%, 50% and 100% filling agent. Finally, the SEM analysis confirmed that particles of 0.5 to 1.5 ㎛ size with silica (SiO2) mixing were dispersed evenly.

Dielectric and Electrocaloric Characteristics of PLZT(8/65/35) Ceramics as a Function of Sintering Temperature (PLZT(8/65/35) 세라믹스의 소결온도에 따른 유전 및 전기열량 특성)

  • In this study, in order to develop relaxor ferroelectric ceramics for refrigeration device application with large electrocaloric effect and low sintering temperature, PLZT(8/65/35) ceramics was fabricated using conventional solid-state method with the variation of sintering temperature ($1,050^{\circ}C$, $1,100^{\circ}C$, $1,200^{\circ}C$). The XRD pattern of all specimens indicated general perovskite structure with secondary phase. From the results of temperature dependence of dielectric constant, the $T_C$ (ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition temperature) was shifted toward high temperature with increasing sintering temperature. When the specimen was sintered at $1,100^{\circ}C$, the optimal value of ${\Delta}T{\sim}0.349^{\circ}C$ in ambient temperature of $215^{\circ}C$ was appeared. It is considered that PLZT(8/65/35) ceramics possess the possibility of refrigeration device application.

Dielectric and Electrical Characteristics of Lead-Free Complex Electronic Material: Ba0.8Ca0.2(Ti0.8Zr0.1Ce0.1)O3

  • A lead-free bulk ceramic having a chemical formula $Ba_{0.8}Ca_{0.2}(Ti_{0.8}Zr_{0.1}Ce_{0.1})O_3$ (further termed as BCTZCO) is synthesized using mixed oxide route. The structural, dielectric, impedance, and conductivity properties, as well as the modulus of the synthesized sample are discussed in the present work. Analysis of X-ray diffraction data obtained at room temperature reveals the existence of some impurity phases. The natural surface morphology shows close packing of grains with few voids. Attempts have been made to study the (a) effect of microstructures containing grains, grain boundaries, and electrodes on impedance and capacitive characteristics, (b) relationship between properties and crystal structure, and (c) nature of the relaxation mechanism of the prepared samples. The relationship between the structure and physical properties is established. The frequency and temperature dependence of the dielectric properties reveal that this complex system has a high dielectric constant and low tangent loss. An analysis of impedance and related parameters illuminates the contributions of grains. The activation energy is determined for only the high temperature region in the temperature dependent AC conductivity graph. Deviation from the Debye behavior is seen in the Nyquist plot at different temperatures. The relaxation mechanism and the electrical transport properties in the sample are investigated with the help of various spectroscopic (i.e., dielectric, modulus, and impedance) techniques. This lead free sample will serve as a base for device engineering.

Improvement of the Figure of Merit in Pb[(Mg1/3Ta2/3)0.7Ti0.3]O3 Systems

  • The $Pb[(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}]O_3$+xwt%PbO systems at temperature of $1250^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours was successful synthesized. In this study, PbO-doped $Pb[(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}]O_3$ systems with non-linear behaviors showed ordering-degree dependence at the low temperature range were prepared using the columbite precursor method. And the characteristic of remnant polarization vs. electric field were analyzed. The pyroelectric, dielectric and piezoelectric properties of partially disordered $Pb[(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}]O_3$+xwt%PbO solid solutions were studied as a function of temperature, frequency, and electric field. It showed distinct features of temperature dependent of pyroelectric coefficient, spontaneous polarization and dielectric constant at about $50^{\circ}C$. The figure of merit was calculated as pyroelectric coefficient, dielectric constant and dissipation factor. It was found that the high voltage responsivity FV, high detectivity FD were $0.0373m^2/C$ and $0.6735{\times}10^{-4}Pa{-1/2}$, respectively, in the $Pb[(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})_{0.7}Ti_{0.3}]O_3$+3.0 wt%PbO system.

Dielectric Properties of BaTiO3 Substituted with Donor Dopants of Nb5+ and Ta5+

  • The temperature and frequency dependence of the dielectric constant of the BaTiO3 substituted with two types of donor dopants, Nb5+ and Ta5+, respectively, were compared and analyzed. Dielectric specimens of four specific compositions, Ba0.95Nb0.05TiO3, Ba0.90Nb0.10TiO3, Ba0.95Ta0.05TiO3, and Ba0.90Ta0.010TiO3 were prepared by calcining at 1100 ℃ and sintering at 1300 ℃ to have a perovskite structure to measure capacitance. XRD and SEM analysis were used to observe the structure, with particular focus on the integration into the Nb5+ and Ta5+ substituted BaTiO3 crystal lattice. X-ray diffraction peaks in the (200) and (002) planes were observed between 45.10° and 45.45° of the BaTiO3 solid solution substituted with different fractions of Nb5+ and Ta5+. The dielectric properties were analyzed and the relationship between the properties and structure of the substituted BaTiO3 was established. The fine particles and high density of the substituted BaTiO3 were maintained like pure BaTiO3, and in particular, a shift toward the low temperature side of the phase transition temperature range was clearly found, unlike pure BaTiO3. In addition, the phase transition at a temperature higher than the Curie temperature relatively satisfies the modified Curie-Weiss law.

  • The temperature and the composition dependence of the dielectric properties of the solid solution materials in the system $xBa(Zn_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_{3}\[BZN]-(1-x)\Sr(Zn_{1/3}Nb{2/3)O_{3}\[SZN]$ at microwave frequency was studied. The dielectric constant and unloaded Q were $40.5{\pm}0.5,5980{\pm}100$ respectively for BZN at 10 GHz and $36.9{\pm}0.5,2700{\pm}100$ for SZN at 10.2GHz. The temperature coefficient of the resonant frequency was $+27.5ppm/{\circ}C$ for BZN and $-39.1ppm/{\circ}C$ for SZN. The results also showed that 0.3 BZN-0.7 SZN is the most temperature-stable composition among xBZN-(1-x) SZN solid solutions. In this case, the dielectric constant, the unloaded Q and $\tau_{f}$ at 9.8GHz were $41.5{\pm}0.2,2920{\pm}100$ and $-3.5ppm/{\circ}C$, respectively.

Tunability of Ba(Ti0.92Zr0.08)O3 Polycrystal Grown on Ceramic Seed by Floating Bone Technique (세라믹스 종결정 위에 Floating Zone Technique 법으로 성장한 Ba(Ti0.92Zr0.08)O3 다결정의 Tunability)

  • [ $Ba(Zr_{0.08}Ti_{0.92})O_3$ ] polycrystal was grown by floating zone technique with two ellipsoidal mirrors using the $8\%$of Zr-modified BZT ceramics as both a feed rod and a seed crystal. In order to study the annealing effect, a part of the grown crystal was sliced and annealed in the oxygen atmosphere at $1,200^{\circ}C$ for 10 h. The dielectric constant and loss at 10 kHz, 100 kHz, and 1 MHz were measured in the temperature range between $-100^{\circ}C$ and $150^{\circ}C$ to investigate the dielectric properties of the grown polycrystal. The electric-field dependence of the dielectric constant at 10 kHz and 100 kHz was studied by measuring the dielectric constants as a function of the biased-electric fields which ran from -15 kV/cm to 15 kV/cm. Due to the effect of annealing in the oxygen atmosphere, the electric-field tunability of dielectric constants increased from $47.5\%$ to 5 to and the figure of merit for this material from 39.6 to 46.4. Since the figure of merit can be increased to more than 46.4 by increasing the maximum value of the biased-electric fields to more than 15 V/cm, this material nay have a possibility for applications in microwave tuning devices at room temperature.
