  • The pantograph for Korean High Speed Train was developed by home-grown technology. In this study, test and evaluation of the current collection performance of the pantograph is conducted. For this purpose, a measuring system is developed and installed on the prototype high speed train. Measurement is conducted while the train runs on the test track. The measuring system is composed of video monitoring system and telemetry & data processing system. It monitors the hazard behavior of the pantograph and measures acceleration and vertical force of the pan head. By applying the measuring system, accurate evaluation of the performance of the pantograph and safety assessment of the interface system of pantograph and catenary is facilitated.

  • With the issuance of the ICH “Guidance for industry S7A Safety Pharmacology Studies For Human Pharmaceuticals” in July 2001 came the preference for the use of unanesthetized animals when evaluation the safety profile of new pharmaceutical agents. Telemetry provides a means of obtaining measurements of physiological functions in conscious animals without the problems associated with classical cardiovascular measuring methods. The Korea Institute of Toxicology (KIT) established the telemetric measurement of cardiovascular parameters, such as Blood pressure, Heart rate, ECG (PR, RR, QRS, QT and QTcB interval) under GLP conditions. • Because most of vehicle provide users with the very limited information regarding the performance of vehicle, it is quite difficult for users to drive vehicles safe, and to maintain and repair vehicles properly. In order to solve the above-mentioned problems, several ways of research and development for the vehicle control and diagnosis system have been recently carried out. However, a lot of complicated problems and difficulties were arising due to the complexity of the developed system, degradation of the reliability for the vehicle performance control system, operational malfunction and so on. In this paper, for the purpose of solving the difficult problems and technical limitations, a system for vehicle performance which might be able to diagnose the reliability of vehicle performance by measuring and analyzing the real time performance of vehicle using the satellite telemetry technology was conmance oly defined and deehiced.hihe results derived from the cormance ofdvehiclactivities in this study shall be used as not only fundamental data but also materials for the detailed design for the implementation of vehicle performance diagnosis system in the near future.

In this study, a relation in mechanical aspect between the train running speed and the current collecting performance of the pantograph is conducted.'for this study, a measuring system for current collecting performance and mechanical characteristics is developed and installed on the prototype Korean High Speed Train, and measurement is conducted while the train runs on the test track. The measuring system is composed of video monitoring system and telemetry & data processing unit. It monitors whether the hazard behavior in the pantograph is occurs or not, and measures acceleration and vertical contact force between the pan head and catenary. Through this study, evaluation of a mechanical vibration characteristics and trend of the pantograph and a interface performance of pantograph - catenary up to 200㎞/h train speed are facilitated.

  • This paper describe on the transmitting/receiving functions and the monitoring effects for the telemetry system which is designed to monitor the environmental condition of a culturing fishery ground inside a bay. The telemetry experiments were carried out by the telemetry system which constructed with the sea water temperature/salinity measuring sensor and telesounder at culturing fishery ground located in the coast of Sangyang-Myon, Kyongsangnam-Do province from October, 1995 to May, 1996. The results of this experiment showed that the developed telemetry system could be used for monitoring the sea water temperature/salinity and the distribution of fish in culturing fishery ground.

  • The implanted telemetry system provides the monitoring of species while they move within their cages. Species monitored include mice, rats, rabbits, dogs, pigs, primates, sheep, horses, cattle, and others. A miniature transmitter implanted in each animal measures one or more parameters. Parameters measured include arterial pressure, intra-pleural pressure, left ventricular pressure, intra-ocular pressure, bladder pressure, ECG, EMG, EEG, EOG, temperature, activity, and other parameters and transmits the data via radio frequency signals to a nearby receiver. Every conventional dedicated transmitter contains one or more sensors, cpu and battery. Due to the expected life of battery, the measuring time is limited. To overcome these problems, electromagnetic inductive coupling based wireless power transmission technology using multiple transmit coils were proposed. Each coil having different active area are driven by the coil driver. In this research, parallel resonance based coil driver was proposed. In addition, the device to detect where the receiver is positioned was proposed. From the experiments we show how to determine the driving condition of coil driver.

  • Strain-gauges have been dominantly used to measure strain at various points on a rotor, however, either a slip ring or telemetry has to be used to send sensor signals to data acquisition instruments at stationary side. Both slip ring and telemetry have numerous inherent problems which force severe limitations in real applications. This paper introduces a new rotor condition monitoring system using FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors and a rotary optical coupler. A single optical fiber with many FBG sensors is installed on the rotor and an optical dynamic interrogator is installed at stationary side. The sensor signal connection between rotating part and stationary part is made by the rotary optical coupling method which makes use of light's unique characteristic-light travels through space. Broad band light source from the interrogator travels to the optical fiber on the rotor and reflected FBG sensor signals travel back to the optical fiber on stationary side and are connected to the interrogator. Rotary optical coupler's insertion loss change due to rotation is compensated by using a reference sensor installed at the center of the rotor. The proposed system's performance has been successfully demonstrated by accurately measuring strains at 5 points on a blade rotating at high speed.

  • The moving ranges and behavior of four wild abalones, Haliotis discus hannai, were measured by an acoustic telemetry technique. The shape of the sea bottom of the experimental area was surveyed by a bathymetry system and three self-recording type acoustic receivers were used for monitoring the behavior and measuring the movement range. The abalones (WA1-WA4) attached acoustic tags were released and measured the movement during ten months. Three abalones (WA1, WA3 and WA4) were successively detected around the released point during the experiment and were moved to the V2 area where water depth is deeper than the V1 area. The change of inhabitation depth was also detected from the depth sensor of WA4. As the result, abalones were moved to deeper water area accordance with the decrease of the water temperature. The moved ranges of abalones were approximately 200 - 400m from the release point.

  • This paper describes a flexible wireless telemetering system using a mesoscale cantilever sensor, which is microfabricated with a patterned thin Ni-Cu foil on a resin substrate. The dynamic validation of the sensor has been conducted in a flow. The wireless telemetry is used to obtain data regarding the oscillating flows. It is shown that the sensor is nearly independent of the environmental temperature and is suitable for application to primary healthcare and diagnostic devices. It can be easily integrated with other modules for measuring physiological parameters, e.g., blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and heart rate, to increase the convenience and reliability of diagnosis. The precision and reliability of the sensor are also dependent on the design of the analog front-end and noise reduction techniques. It is shown that the present system's minimum interval between packet transmissions is ~16 ms.

  • Implantable biotelemetry systems are indispensable tools not only in animal research but also in clinical medicine as such systems enable the acquisition of otherwise unavailable physiological data. We present the manufacture of CMOS IC and its system for implantable multichannel biotelemeter system. The internal circuits of this system are designed not only to achieve as multiple functions and low power dissipation as possible but also to enable continuous measurement of physiological data. Its main functions are to enable continuous measurement of physiological data and to accomplish on-off power swiching of an implantable battery by receiving appropriate commanc signals from an external circuit. The implantable circuits of this system are designed and fabricated on a single silicon chip using $1.5\mu$m n-well CMOS process technology. The total power dissipation of implantable circuits for a continuous operation was 6.7mW and for a stand-by operation was 15.2$\mu$ W. This system used together with approriate sensors is expected to contribute to clinical medicine telemetry system of measuring and wireless transmitting such significant physiological parameters as pressure pH and temperature.
