Design and Fabrication of an End-Launched Rectangular Waveguide Adapter Fed by a Coaxial Loop

  • An end-launched adapter combining a coaxial loop within a rectangular waveguide has been analyzed and designed. The accurate electromagnetic modeling of input impedance for the adapter design has been developed using a modal analysis method. Also, design parameters to improve the end-launched adapter have been investigated. Numerical and experimental results of the proposed model have been compared with the results of previous works, and verified by an electromagnetic simulator of High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS). The input voltage standing wave ratios (VSWRs) are smaller than 2 over the wide frequency band from 7.5 GHz to 10.5 GHz.

초고속 전송 매체용 비디오 코딩을 위한 적응적 비트율 제어에 관한 연구 (Adaptive rate control scheme for very low bit rate video coding)

  • In video coding systems, an effective rate control method is one of the most improtant issues for the good video quality. This paper presents an adaptive rate control scheme based on the buffer fullness, quantization, and buffer utilization for very low bit rate communication lines, such as 16kbit/s, 24bit/s, and so on. The strategy is implemented on H.263, whichis a vide coding algorithm for narrow band telecommunication channels up to 64kbit/s recommended by ITU-T SG15, to show the effectiveness. The simulation result shows that the suggested rate control scheme has better SNR performance and buffer utilization of source coder than those of linear and non-linear[9] buffer control strategies.

  • 본 논문에서는 마이크로프로세서의 디지털 입력포트에 히스테리시스 특성을 부여하는 방법 및 설계 순서를 제시하고 이를 실험해 그 효과를 확인하였다. 프로세서의 잉여포트가 있을 때 제시한 방법을 이용하면 저항 2개의 추가만으로 히스테리시스 특성을 얻을 수 있으며, 더구나 기존의 TTL과 CMOS의 슈미트 트리거 게이트에 비해 큰 히스테리시스 폭을 얻을 수 있다.

  • VDL Mode 2 is one of air-to-ground VHF digital data link technologies. The VDL Mode 2 system is designed to be an air-to-ground subnetwork of the Aeronautical Telecommunication Network (ATN) using the AM(R)S band and it is organized according to the Open System Interconnection (OSI) model (defined by ISO). It can be used in ATS Applications especially for ATC communication such as CPDLC and ADS as well. And It is expected VDL Mode 2 replaces ACARS(Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System) which has broadly been used for over 20 years. This paper presents the result of design of operational test equipments for the validation of VDL Mode 2 system under development in KARI.

  • We have proposed a broadband analog feedforward optical transmitter using a wideband $180^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler instead of conventional frequency-sensitive phase shifter with the narrow bandwidth property using a wideband $180^{\circ}$ hybrid coupler, the wide-band linearization technique enhances the linearity of the feedforward optical transmitter. In two-tone cases, the $3^{rd}-IMD$ products was enhanced more than 10 dB in 385 MHz range(1.375$\sim$l.76 GHz).

  • Folded lines are applied to design a compact microstrip ring hybrid. Using the proposed structure we achieve both significant size reduction and good harmonic suppression with the same results of conventional ring hybrid at 2.41GHz. Including the third harmonic frequency, up to 11GHz band harmonics are suppressed to -20dB. The size of the proposed ring-hybrid is reduced to one forth of the conventional ring hybrid. The measured frequency responses agree well with simulated ones.

  • In this paper, we suggested new network architecture to provide seamless service between the cellular system and new wireless broadband network such as IEEE 802.16e, called WiBro. The interworking technologies are very important issue because mobile operator should provide service connectivity between various wireless networks based on different access technologies. Moreover a change and modification on legacy network should be minimized for providing interworking with new wireless broad-band network. We implemented proposed interworking architecture between 3G cellular network and 802.16e network to provide seamless service including interworking unit in real test environment. Also, we performed performance evaluation in hybrid network environments.

  • Having the characteristics of public goods, Radio Spectrum had been controlled by Government Authorities. In the past, technological side of spectrum, such as cross protection, was the main concern, but as the telecommunication industry is developing gradually, economic side of spectrum is becoming an important part. To uplift the Economic efficiency of spectrum management policy, clarifying the basic value of spectrum is one of the most important things. Also, both government authorities and spectrum licensees will have to choose license or investment under uncertainties such as license timing, time to market, technology standard, and so on. Considering all things, this paper gives the value to the spectrum by real options theory, which is a powerful method concerning uncertainty, especially for government, And we applied it to a specific spectrum band for the portable Internet in Korea. These results can provide information about the technological standard, optimal market-entry time as well as the value of spectrum for the portable Internet.

Propagation Measurements and Estimation of Channel Propagation Models in Urban Environment

  • Wireless communication is a telecommunication technology, which enables wireless transmission between the portable devices to provide wireless access in all types of environments. In this research, the measurements and various empirical models are analysed and compared in order to find out a suitable propagation model to provide guidelines for cell planning of wireless communication systems. The measured data was taken in urban region with low vegetation and some trees at 900 MHz frequency band. Path loss models are useful planning tools, which permit the designers of cellular communication to obtain optimal levels for the base station deployment and meeting the expected service level requirements. Outcomes show that these empirical models tend to overestimate the propagation loss. As one of the key outputs, it was observed that the calculations of Weissberger model fit with the measured data in urban environment.

  • The wavelength demultiplexer is an essential component in optical transmission systems using wavelength-division multiplexing(WDM), which can increase the number of channels and information capacity of optical fibers. For optical telecommunication, much attention has been given to demultiplexing two wavelengths in the 1.3${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of low dispersion band and 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ of low loss window. Various integrated-optical devices have been proposed to perform this function, including conventional directional couplers, asymmetric Y-branching devices, asymmetric Mach-Zehnder interferometers and two-mode interference devices.
