  • During the decades, considerable human interventions to comprehend the web information were increased continually. The successful expansion of the web services made it more complex and required more contributions of the users. Many researchers have tried to improve the comprehension ability of computers in supporting an intelligent web service. One reasonable approach is enriching the information with machine understandable semantics. They applied ontology design, intelligent reasoning and other logical representation schemes to design an infrastructure of the semantic web. For the features, the semantic web is considered as an intelligent access to understanding, transforming, storing, retrieving, and processing the information gathered from heterogeneous, distributed web resources. The goal of this study is firstly to explore the problems that restrict the applications of web services and the basic concepts, languages, and tools of the semantic web. Then we highlight some of the researches, solutions, and projects that have attempted to combine the semantic web and business support, and find out the pros and cons of the approaches. Through the study, we were able to know that the semantic web technology is trying to offer a new and higher level of web service to the online users. The services are overcoming the limitations of traditional web technologies/services. In traditional web services, too much human interventions were needed to seek and interpret the information. The semantic web service, however, is based on machine-understandable semantics and knowledge representation. Therefore, most of information processing activities will be executed by computers. The main elements required to develop a semantic web-based business support are business logics, ontologies, ontology languages, intelligent agents, applications, and etc. In using/managing the infrastructure of the semantic web services, software developers, service consumers, and service providers are the main representatives. Some researchers integrated those technologies, languages, tools, mechanisms, and applications into a semantic web services framework. Therefore, future directions of the semantic web-based business support should be start over from the infrastructure.

  • In ubiquitous environment, data are changing rapidly and new data is coming as times passes. And sometimes all of the past data will be lost if there is not sufficient space in memory. Therefore, there is a need to make rules and combine it with new data not to lose all the past data or to deal with large amounts of data. In making decision trees and extracting rules, the weight of each of rules is generally determined by the total number of the class at leaf. The computational problem of finding a minimum finite state acceptor compatible with given data is NP-hard. We assume that rules extracted are not correct and may have the loss of some information. Because of this precondition. this paper presents a new approach for refining rules. It controls their weight of rules of previous knowledge or data. In solving rule refinement, this paper tries to make a variety of rules with pruning method with majority and minority properties, control weight of each of rules and observe the change of performances. In this paper, the decision tree classifier with extended data expression having static weight is used for this proposed study. Experiments show that performances conducted with a new policy of refining rules may get better.

  • Interactions between proteins and genes are often considered essential in the description of biomolecular phenomena and networks of interactions are considered as an entre for a Systems Biology approach. Recently, many works try to extract information by analyzing biomolecular text using natural language processing technology. Previous researches insist that linguistic information is useful to improve the performance in detecting gene interactions. However, previous systems do not show reasonable performance because of low recall. To improve recall without sacrificing precision, this paper proposes a new method for detection of gene interactions based on syntactic relations. Without biomolecular knowledge, our method shows reasonable performance using only small size of training data. Using the format of LLL05(ICML05 Workshop on Learning Language in Logic) data we detect the agent gene and its target gene that interact with each other. In the 1st phase, we detect encapsulation types for each agent and target candidate. In the 2nd phase, we construct verb lists that indicate the interaction information between two genes. In the last phase, to detect which of two genes is an agent or a target, we learn direction information. In the experimental results using LLL05 data, our proposed method showed F-measure of 88% for training data, and 70.4% for test data. This performance significantly outperformed previous methods. We also describe the contribution rate of each phase to the performance, and demonstrate that the first phase contributes to the improvement of recall and the second and last phases contribute to the improvement of precision.

  • Microarray technology is extensively being used in experimental molecular biology field. Microarray experiments generate quantitative expression measurements for thousands of genes simultaneously, which is useful for the phenotype classification of many diseases. One of the two major problems in microarray data classification is that the number of genes exceeds the number of tissue samples. The other problem is that current methods generate classifiers that are accurate but difficult to interpret. Our paper addresses these two problems. We performed a direct integration of individual microarrays with same biological objectives by transforming an expression value into a rank value within a sample and generated rank-comparison decision rules with variable number of genes for cancer classification. Our classifier is an ensemble method which has k top scoring decision rules. Each rule contains a number of genes, a relationship among involved genes, and a class label. Current classifiers which are also ensemble methods consist of k top scoring decision rules. However these classifiers fix the number of genes in each rule as a pair or a triple. In this paper we generalized the number of genes involved in each rule. The number of genes in each rule is in the range of 2 to N respectively. Generalizing the number of genes increases the robustness and the reliability of the classifier for the class prediction of an independent sample. Also our classifier is readily interpretable, accurate with small number of genes, and shed a possibility of the use in a clinical setting.

  • The IHO S-100 is a standard on the universal hydorgraphic data model for supporting information services that integrate various data in maritime and provide proper information for safety of vessels. The S-100 is used to develop S-10x product specifications which are standards on guideline for creation and delivery of specific data set in maritime. The product specification for feature-based data such as ENC(Electronic Navigational Chart) data includes a feature catalogue that describes characteristics of features in that feature-based data. The feature catalogue is developed by domain experts with knowledge on data of the target domain. However, it is not feasible to develop a feature catalogue according to the XML schema by manual. In the IHO TSMAD committee meeting, needs of developing technology on building feature catalogue has been discussed. Therefore, we present a feature catalogue builder that is a GUI(Graphic User Interface) system supporting domain experts to build feature catalogues in XML. The feature catalogue builder is developed to connect with the FCD(Feature Concept Dictionary) register in the IHO(International Hydrographic Organization) GI(Geographic Information) registry. Also, it supports domain experts to select proper feature items based on the relationships between register items.

  • The Korean economy has sustained high growth rate for almost three decades, that have been associated with the rapid expansion of manufacturing industries. In the beginning stage of development, the high growth of the Korean economy has been based on improvements in productivity obtained by the economies of scale. In that period, the improvements in productivity could be secured by the economies of scale in the export-oriented industries which are the labor- and material-intensive industries. In the latter half of the 1980s, the Korean economy went through rapid transition. Now Korea is at another juncture in its development process, where economic restructuring is critical to sustain high growth. However, economic restructuring in the 1990s call for much more concerted effort than before, since changes in internal and external conditions have profoundly altered the environment for economic development. If Korea is to sustain high growth in the 1990s, it has to promote balanced economic and social development in coordination with the smooth facilitation of industrial restructuring. There are no inherent conflicts among the issues involved, so they can be resolved by restructuring the economy to facilitate, in a global context, the development of knowledge- and technology-intensive activities and to ensure that the benefts of growth are reflected of qualitative improvements in national living standards. In this paper, we examined a scenario of structural changes using a mid- and long-term multisector model, in order to understand the conditions needed for realizing the growth potential. This examination explains the important features of the development course and policy directions that will help sustain high growth in the 1990s.

  • This research obtained fundamental data for the development of grape foods by investigating the preference for grape foods, popularization and commercialization plan of grape foods and obtained knowledge required in order to develop grape foods. The study used 354 consumers in Seoul and GyeongGi Province. The distribution of sex on research subjects was as follows. Male was 52.0% (184 persons) and female was 48.0% (170 persons). Age distribution varied by twenties and less than twenties being 30.8%, thirties being 26.3%, forties being 24.6% and the fifties and over being 18.4%. According to the results, preference for grape foods of subjects was that rice wrapped in grape leaves ($2.14{\pm}0.7$) and sweet steamed rice($2.12{\pm}0.8$) were the highest among staple food; grape vinegar($2.38{\pm}0.7$) and grape taffy($2.25{\pm}0.7$) were the highest among spices; grape jelly ($2.53{\pm}0.6$) and grape pudding($2.45{\pm}0.7$) were the highest among snacks; grape juice ($2.70{\pm}0.5$) and grape yogurt($2.59{\pm}0.6$) were the highest among beverages. Subjects responded to the fruit group among food groups harmonized with grape foods(p<0.01). 50.7% of subjects responded to "have to be delicious" and 25.1% of subjects responded to "nutritional balance" as the most important aspects of the development of grape foods. In the popularization and commercialization plan of grape foods, Subjects chose with respected importance, personal preference($4.15{\pm}0.8$), price($4.05{\pm}0.8$) and promotional strategy($4.00{\pm}0.9$). In conclusion, the food development and revitalization plan should use grapes to find out food materials suitable for grape mixture and nutritional balance. We will expect an increase population and commercialization of grape foods if we develop grape foods and promote strategically in consideration of the preference of consumers and the price of produce.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the set up and running status of school gardening at elementary schools in Jeollabuk-do. Among 416 elementary schools in Jeollabuk-do, 164 schools (39.4%) had school gardens. Ninety-seven schools in cities and 67 in counties had school gardens. The total area and school garden size at schools in Jeollabuk-do were $45,490m^2$ and $277m^2$ per school, respectively, as well as $1.6m^2$ per students. School gardens varied in type, and percentages of outdoor and off-campus gardens were 67.2% and 17.2%, respectively. There were differences in the set up, type of garden, annual operating budget, and participants in school garden programs according to the location (city or county) of the school The installation and automation of facilities in the garden (such as greenhouse, tool shed, resource recycling facility, etc.) were poor. Most schools grew various kinds of plants, including vegetables, crops, ornamentals, and fruits. Teachers most often operated school gardens and taught students. Teachers had difficulty managing school gardens due to absence of knowledge about sustaining gardens. Most respondents reported the need for a school garden training program. Sixty-one percent of schools reported that the garden was used for academic instruction, especially during class. The majority of respondents agreed that school gardens have a positive effect and wanted to increase classes related to school gardens. Accordingly, in order to sustain school gardens and maximize their effects, systematic and customized support is needed that considers the characteristics and circumstances of the school. The facilities and features of the garden should be improved, and the school garden training program for teachers should attempt to reduce the effort required to manage the garden and increase utilization efficiency. In addition, participation of garden coordinators, parents, and community volunteers in managing gardens and implementing garden lessons is required.

  • This paper presents the theoretical developments of an exact finite strip for the buckling and initial post-buckling analyses of isotropic flat plates. The so-called exact finite strip is assumed to be simply supported out-of-plane at the loaded ends. The strip is developed based on the concept that it is effectively a plate. The present method, which is designated by the name Full-analytical Finite Strip Method in this paper, provides an efficient and extremely accurate buckling solution. In the development process, the Von-Karman's equilibrium equation is solved exactly to obtain the buckling loads and the corresponding form of out-of-plane buckling deflection modes. The investigation of thin flat plate buckling behavior is then extended to an initial post-buckling study with the assumption that the deflected form immediately after the buckling is the same as that obtained for the buckling. It is noted that in the present method, only one of the calculated out-of-plane buckling deflection modes, corresponding to the lowest buckling load, i.e., the first mode is used for the initial post-buckling study. Thus, the postbuckling study is effectively a single-term analysis, which is attempted by utilizing the so-called semi-energy method. In this method, the Von-Karman's compatibility equation governing the behavior of isotropic flat plates is used together with a consideration of the total strain energy of the plate. Through the solution of the compatibility equation, the in-plane displacement functions which are themselves related to the Airy stress function are developed in terms of the unknown coefficient in the assumed out-of-plane deflection function. These in-plane and out-of-plane deflected functions are then substituted in the total strain energy expressions and the theorem of minimum total potential energy is applied to solve for the unknown coefficient. The developed method is subsequently applied to analyze the initial postbuckling behavior of some representative thin flat plates for which the results are also obtained through the application of a semi-analytical finite strip method. Through the comparison of the results and the appropriate discussion, the knowledge of the level of capability of the developed method is significantly promoted.
