  • Even though it is generally recognized that entrepreneurship is complex socio-economic phenomena and entrepreneurial opportunities can be created from economic, social, technological, political and legal forces, entrepreneurship has been discussed in very narrow economic terms and focusing on narrow economic relationships such as consumers, suppliers, owners and employee. However, recently, a lot of researchers talk about social entrepreneurship. How can we explain social entrepreneurs? In our paper, employing stakeholder theory, we try to offer more realistic model to understand entrepreneurial opportunities. We claim that entrepreneurial exploitations can be successful only when entrepreneurs can identify ex post stakeholder inefficiencies. Thus, our efforts focus on the question of where, when, and how stakeholder inefficiencies occur?

  • This paper discusses government-backed venture capital as a science, technology and innovation (STI) policy instrument from the Chinese perspective. China aspires to overhaul its growth model by vigorously promoting technological innovation and entrepreneurship. Like many other countries, however, funding gaps constrain new technology ventures in the early stages of venture development. To plug this gap, China attempts to use government-backed venture capital as a policy instrument. Super-size central government-backed VCs were set up and dozens of similar schemes are in operation at local levels. This paper provides a case study of such government-backed venture capital schemes in China. It documents the background conditions explaining the country's need for public venture capital, describes the distinct features of program design in such schemes, and assesses the impact of government-backed venture capital.

  • Although small and medium-size enterprises are facing the significant trends in the Fourth Industrial Revolution and Open Innovation which are increasingly in need, the subjects of absorptive capacity and entrepreneurship has not been studied sufficiently in order to enhance the competitiveness of SMEs' products and cope with the current trend. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of absorptive capacity of SMEs on product competitiveness and the moderating role of CEO's entrepreneurship between the absorptive capacity and the product competitiveness. The data were collected from 313 employees of 22 SMEs in the Seoul metropolitan area, Kyunggi-do and Chung-cheong province, and analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis. As a result of the hypothesis test, both the absorptive capacity of SMEs and CEO's entrepreneurship had a positive effect on the product competitiveness. In addition, also found out the innovativeness and the proactivness out of the three entrepreneurship had the moderate roles between the potential absorptive capacity out of the absorptive capacity and the product competitiveness. On the other hand, the risk-taking out of the three entrepreneurship had the moderate roles between the realized absorptive capacity out of the two absorptive capacity and the product competitiveness. These results suggest that open innovation and technological entrepreneurship are needed to help SMEs learn external resources and information to create performance. After discussing this conclusions and implications of the study, the direction for future study was presented.
